Vuestro valor nos ha deslumbrado y no sólo el pueblo argentino no debe olvidaros nunca, sino somos muchos los que en el mundo estamos orgullosos de que seáis nuestros hermanos pilotos." QUESTÃO NACIONAL, MILITARISMO, MALVINAS Entre inícios de abril e meados de junho de 1982 teve lugar o enfrentamento militar entre Argentina e Inglaterra (apoiada pelos EUA) pela posse e soberania das Ilhas Malvinas, ocupadas por tropas argentinas a 2 de abril de 1982. Depois da Segunda Guerra Mundial, o das Malvinas foi um dos conitos em que mais perto se esteve do uso de armas atômicas, carregadas pela frota inglesa ao Atlântico Sul para seu eventual uso contra o território continental argentino. Na guerra, as forças armadas argentinas usaram 14.200 soldados; o Reino Unido, 29.700, com armamento e apoio logístico muito superior. O saldo nal da guerra foi a recuperação do arquipélago pelo Reino Unido e a morte de 650 soldados argentinos, além de 1068 feridos (muitos de gravidade) e de 11.313 prisioneiros; de 255 soldados britânicos, e de três civis das ilhas, mortos, além de 777 feridos. Na década posterior à guerra, houve aproximadamente 350 suicídios de ex-combatentes argentinos, reduzidos na sua maioria a uma situação de miséria social; os suicídios de ex soldados ingleses atingiram a soma de 264. O cenário bélico, incluída a ilusão da ditadura argentina de recuperar as ilhas pela via do enfrentamento (ou da ameaça) militar convencional, foi preparado no contexto da militarização das economias e das sociedades sul-americanas, no período dominado pelas ditaduras militares. Entre 1960 e 1978 o PIB dos países do Terceiro Mundo crescera a um ritmo médio de 2,7% anual, enquanto que os gastos militares nesses mesmos países cresceram com um ritmo do 4,2% anual.

Cerruti 30 de agosto de 2012 Edición 2 Prólogo Luego de la primera edición, quienes leyeron el escrito y tenían información que optimizaría el trabajo la brindaron desinteresadamente, gracias, por ello en esta nueva versión incorporé los datos que me acercaron y otros que obtuve de mis investigaciones. Entre la información recibida surgió lo sucedido el 31 de mayo de 1982, cuando cumpliendo un vuelo nos cruzamos en el Atlántico con el RFA Fort Grange que iba camino a reunirse con la Fuerza de Tareas Británica. En ese buque se encontraba el entonces Teniente Royal Navy John Charles Osmond con el cual he intercambiado mails que me han sido de gran utilidad. De sus correos obtuve la información que luego del 29 de mayo los buques de la flota inglesa que se dirigían al sur recibieron órdenes de apartarse de la costa americana para alejarse del alcance de los aviones de la Fuerza Aérea Argentina (FAA). Así mismo, recibí recortes periodísticos de Brasil referidos al VLCC Hercules, de manera tal de poder incluir los días previos al hundimiento del buque. Estos nuevos datos que documentan los hechos hicieron que cambiara la división del trabajo en anexos y adjunto, no para darle una jerarquía a esos testimonios si no para mayor comodidad del lector y por ello, también he agregado más fotos y croquis explicativos. Además, merecía ser descripto el derribo del TC - 63 en un homenaje a sus tripulantes, ellos cumplían con la tarea de “marcación de blancos navales”, una misión no prevista en el manual de procedimientos del Escuadrón, pero cuando se está en guerra y se necesita, todo esfuerzo es poco.

Luego de meditarlo respondió que no, pero agregó que en 1982, cuan- Lombardo, durante el conflicto. do se inició el conflicto, el Parlamento había debatido la conveniencia de hacerlo. (2) Recientemente (2005) Lawrence Freedman publicó la Historia Oficial de la Campaña de Señales de guerra. las Malvinas (The Official History of the Falklands Campaign), obra para la que fue con- vencido por el gobierno laborista de Gran Bretaña (Ediciones 2005 y 2007). Al concluir el conflicto no quedó dilucidado si los barcos y aeronaves ingleses disponían de armamento nuclear. Recién con la Historia Oficial... del gobierno británico se dispone de los argumen- tos y medidas adoptados por éste sobre el uso de armamento nuclear y de las operaciones de manipulación de armas nucleares efectuadas durante el conflicto. Es ineludible señalar que sería un error muy grave desconocer lo sucedido, dado que se trata de un asunto de suma trascendencia, en particular de los aspectos que están inte- rrelacionados.

    Type 22 Frigate (Batch 1) H.M.S. Broadsword 1981 1/350 Scale HMS Broadsword was laid down on 7th February1975 at Yarrow’s Scotstoun Shipyard on the Clyde, following a reappraisal of the Royal Navy’s surface fleet requirement that a suitable replacement for the Leander class Frigates would be needed to make up the modernised fleet. She was launched on 12th May 1976 and Commissioned on 4th May 1979 and was soon pressed into service as a command ship for the rescue operation following the Fastnet Race disaster during August of that year. Several design changes to the initial layout of the class were soon to be forthcoming, the large funnel with the exhaust uptakes protruding from the sides like ears, were soon replaced in later ships with smaller lighter funnels to reduce some top weight, although HMS Battleaxe, Broadsword’s sister had the large funnel to start with as well. These were subsequently removed during their first refits in the mid 1980s and replace with the smaller funnels. HMS Broadsword served with the fleet during the Falklands conflict with Argentina in 1982 as an air defence frigate, and was teamed up with HMS Coventry to lure and trap Argentine aircraft into their air defence net, thus preventing them from reaching the vital beachheads in San Carlos. After having suffered several losses to these Type 22/ 42 combinations the Argentines made them a priority target to gain the upper hand again, and pressed home an attack on HMS Broadsword and HMS Coventry which resulted in HMS Coventry being hit by three bombs, which overwhelmed her.
