Tribunal Arbitral du Sport Court of Arbitration for Sport MEDIA RELEASE ANTI-DOPING – SOCHI 2014 THE COURT OF ARBITRATION FOR SPORT (CAS) DELIVERS ITS DECISIONS IN THE MATTER OF 39 RUSSIAN ATHLETES V/ THE IOC: 28 APPEALS UPHELD, 11 PARTIALLY UPHELD Lausanne, 1 February 2018 – The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has delivered its decisions (operative parts only) in 39 of the 42 cases filed by Russian athletes against the decisions taken by the Disciplinary Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC DC) in relation to the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games. The reasoned decisions will be delivered in due course. During this time he served as Switzerland's ambassador to China from 2000 to 2004. The ambassador, who loves Chinese culture, read the famous Chinese book Dream of the Red Chamber when he was 12 or 13 years old. He believed that the book gave him an insight into the Chinese view of the world. There is Chinese-style furniture, calligraphy and paintings, sculptures and small ornaments at the ambassador's home in Switzerland. He also displayed a box of exquisite snuff bottles collected during his tenure. Since retiring in 2008, the ambassador has enjoyed writing calligraphy at home. He showed off his calligraphy works, one of which features the phrase: "Correct your mistakes as soon as you know it, and do not forget what you have learned." Swiss University Sports Visits Chinese Ambassador to Switzerland Published by insidethegames.biz, December 7th, 2020 Leonz Eder, first vice-president of International University Sports Federation (FISU) and managing director of Swiss University Sports, has met with the new Chinese ambassador to Switzerland, Wang Shiting, with both parties discussing the upcoming University Games in their respective countries. Wang took up the new role in August and met with Eder at the embassy in Bern, with the managing director also being accompanied by Mike Kurt, President of Swiss University Sports. -

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Leduc to host 2018 U SPORTS/Curling Canada Curling Championships March 30, 2017 TORONTO (U SPORTS) – U SPORTS and Curling Canada announced Thursday that the 2018 U SPORTS/Curling Canada Curling Championships will be held in Leduc, Alta., hosted by the Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas. The U SPORTS national championship, set for Mar.24-28, 2018, will be one of four curling events held next year at the Leduc Recreation Centre just outside of Edmonton, in addition to the 2018 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) national championship, the 2018 Canadian Wheelchair Curling Championship and the 2018 Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship. “U SPORTS is very pleased to continue its commitment to university curling in Canada. Partnering with Curling Canada and one of our sport partners, the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association, as well as the University of Alberta and the University of Alberta-Augustana, will raise the bar by providing university athletes with the opportunity to compete on stadium ice,” said Graham Brown, CEO of U SPORTS. "One of our goals for university sport in Canada is to build relationships with our sport partners and universities to enhance the student-athlete experiences at U SPORTS national championships. Providing a curling festival concept in a curling community like Leduc does just that.” It will be the 11th staging of the U SPORTS/Curling Canada Curling Championships and the second time hosted by the University of Alberta, after the Golden Bears and Pandas welcomed Canada’s best university curlers to the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton in 2010. The athletes and the Russian National and Cross-Country Ski Associations were duly notified of the disciplinary proceedings and further investigations by the IOC, and the implementation of provisional suspensions by FIS. Following this notification, the athletes appealed the provisional suspension. The FIS Doping Panel, after having heard Evgeniy Belov and Alexander Legkov, and the FIS, has decided today, 25 th January 2017 by majority not to reverse its initial decision, but to uphold the provisional suspensions of Evgeniy Belov and Alexander Legkov until further notice. As a result of the decisions, the above-mentioned athletes may not take part in any competitions or national team activities. The decisions of the FIS Doping Panel may be appealed exclusively to the Court of Arbitration for Sports in Lausanne (CAS) in accordance with the applicable provisions of CAS. The time to file an appeal to CAS is 21 days. The other four provisionally suspended athletes Julia Ivanova, Evgenia Shapovalova, Alexey Petukhov and Maxim Vylegzhanin have also filed appeals, which are currently in progress. -

Media Release Lucerne, 13 April 2021 Winter Universiade is back on track The Winter Universiade 2021 will open on 11 December 2021, around eleven months later than planned due to the coronavirus pandemic. Since the decision to postpone was made, the Organising Committee has worked hard to adapt the plans to the new dates. The most significant changes affect the Alpine Skiing competitions in Stoos and the closing ceremony. The budget for the Winter Universiade 2021 now amounts to CHF 42 million. The Winter Universiade is set to take place in Central Switzerland and the Grisons from 11 to 21 December 2021. The world’s largest winter multi-sport event for students will see competitors challenge for 60 sets of medals across 10 sports over 11 days of competition. “It is a privilege to have gained a second chance through the postponement and to have been able to give everyone involved something to aim for during this challenging time,” says Managing Director Urs Hunkeler. Since the decision to postpone was made at the start of November 2020, the Organising Committee has worked hard to adapt the plans to the new dates. “Our priorities have been developing the new competition programme, checking our concepts, renewing all of our contracts and revising the budget,” explains Hunkeler. Attractive competition programme Urs Hunkeler is particularly delighted that despite the postponement, the team has been able to retain all ten sports on the programme. “It was never guaranteed for many reasons, such as the fact that the Olympic Games are scheduled in February 2022. December 2021 was therefore selected as the best option for hosting the event. -

IOC GUIDELINES RELATED TO THE CREATION OF AN NOC ATHLETES’ COMMISSION Pursuant to the recommendation of the IOC 2000 Reform Commission that “athletes should be well represented at all levels of the sports movement: IOC, IFs, NOCs and NFs” and the Basic Universal Principles of Good Governance of the Olympic and Sports Movement, and in view of Rules 2.7 and 28.1.3 of the Olympic Charter, an Athletes’ Commission should be established by, and within, each National Olympic Committee (“NOC”). The IOC’s mission is to place athletes at the heart of the Olympic Movement, and the Olympic Agenda 2020 recommendations and the IOC Athletes’ Commission Strategy further support the importance of having effective Athletes’ Commissions. In an effort to assist NOCs, the IOC has prepared these Guidelines, which are intended to serve as minimum standards for NOCs when establishing the terms of reference of their Athletes’ Commissions. 1. MISSION The mission of an NOC Athletes’ Commission (hereafter “Commission”) is to represent the views of the athletes and make their voice heard within the NOC. 2. OBJECTIVES The objectives of the Commission are to: a. Consider issues related to athletes and provide advice to the NOC; b. Engage actively with initiatives and projects that protect and support clean athletes on and off the field of play; c. Represent the rights and interests of athletes and make related recommendations, including recommending arbitrators to be appointed to the International Council of Arbitration for Sport (ICAS); and d.
