FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Leduc to host 2018 U SPORTS/Curling Canada Curling Championships March 30, 2017 TORONTO (U SPORTS) – U SPORTS and Curling Canada announced Thursday that the 2018 U SPORTS/Curling Canada Curling Championships will be held in Leduc, Alta., hosted by the Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas. The U SPORTS national championship, set for Mar.24-28, 2018, will be one of four curling events held next year at the Leduc Recreation Centre just outside of Edmonton, in addition to the 2018 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) national championship, the 2018 Canadian Wheelchair Curling Championship and the 2018 Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship. “U SPORTS is very pleased to continue its commitment to university curling in Canada. Partnering with Curling Canada and one of our sport partners, the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association, as well as the University of Alberta and the University of Alberta-Augustana, will raise the bar by providing university athletes with the opportunity to compete on stadium ice,” said Graham Brown, CEO of U SPORTS. "One of our goals for university sport in Canada is to build relationships with our sport partners and universities to enhance the student-athlete experiences at U SPORTS national championships. Providing a curling festival concept in a curling community like Leduc does just that.” It will be the 11th staging of the U SPORTS/Curling Canada Curling Championships and the second time hosted by the University of Alberta, after the Golden Bears and Pandas welcomed Canada’s best university curlers to the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton in 2010. The Memorial Sea-Hawks (men) and Laurentian Voyageurs (women) won gold at the 2017 U SPORTS/Curling Canada Curling Championships on Mar. 22 at the Fort William Curling Club in Thunder Bay, Ont. The Sea-Hawks captured their second national curling banner and first since 2011, while the Voyageurs were crowned U SPORTS curling champions for the first time in program history. “The Leduc curling community is in for an absolute treat as these four national championships present a wide spectrum of curling at its highest level,” said Peter Inch, Chair of Curling Canada’s Board of Governors. “It’ll be a wonderful opportunity for curling fans in Leduc and the Greater Edmonton area to embrace four events at once, and we know that based on past events in Leduc that the visiting athletes, officials and fans will go home with smiles on their faces.” The winners of the 2018 U SPORTS/Curling Canada Curling Championships will earn the right to represent the red and white at the 2019 Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk, Russia. Last month, Alberta’s Kelsey Rocque and Wilfrid Laurier’s Aaron squires competed at the 2017 FISU Games in Almaty, Kazakhstan following their victories at the 2016 U SPORTS Championships, with Rocque’s rink earning Canada’s lone gold medal of the competition. Objective Curling Canada is requesting expressions of interest for the hosting of the 2022 Everest Canadian Seniors. 2. Background Curling Canada is the national sport governing body responsible for the development, promotion and organization of curling in Canada. In cooperation with its Provincial and Territorial Member Associations across Canada, Curling Canada provides programs and services to curlers of all ages. The primary area of administration and the most financially consuming of Curling Canada’s responsibilities are championships. On an annual basis, Curling Canada sanctions and conducts 17 national curling championship events. Approximately 10,000 competitive curlers from all provinces and territories enter play at the curling club level with the hopes of becoming one of the Canadian Champions crowned annually. Canadian teams open Universiade curling competition Monday in Almaty Jan 26, 2017 Canada’s reigning Canadian university curling champions will take aim at gold next week when the 2017 Winter Universiade curling competition gets underway Monday at the Almaty Arena in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Two-time World Junior Women’s Champion Kelsey Rocque will skip the Canadian women’s team from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, while Aaron Squires will be at the helm of the Canadian men’s team from the Wilfrid Laurier University Golden Hawks in Waterloo, Ont. Those teams won the right to represent Canada at the Winter Universiade by winning the gold medals at the 2016 CIS-Curling Canada Canadian University Curling Championships last March in Kelowna, B.C. Team Rocque (vice-skip Danielle Schmiemann, second Taylor McDonald, lead Taylore Theroux and coach Garry Coderre) will get things going in the 10-team women’s round robin on Monday at 9 a.m. local time (10 p.m. EST Sunday night) against China. Rocque won gold at the 2014 and 2015 World Juniors with different lineups; McDonald was a member of the 2014 team while Schmiemann won gold with Rocque a year later. Squires’ men’s team — the team is rounded out by vice-skip Richard Krell, second Spencer Nuttall, lead Fraser Reid and coach Jim Waite — will play the host country team from Kazakhstan in its opening game in the 10-team men’s competition on Monday at 2 p.m. local time (3 a.m. EST). At this point, only Canada’s team lineups are public knowledge; countries aren’t required to submit their official lineups until the team meeting on Saturday.

Understanding the motives and expectations of volunteers, enable HR managers to fulfill their needs and manage the individuals appropriately. By knowing how to meet the needs of volunteers, providing effective recruitment methods and providing attention to volunteers, the whole process of event co-creation will become easier and convenient for the parties involved. The commissioner of this thesis was Kontiolahti Sport Club. This organization was responsible for arranging Biathlon World Cup events in North Karelia region. One of the tasks was to hire volunteers for the days of the competition. The aim of this thesis was to gain information about volunteer persona with the help of Human Resource Management approaches in order to implement volunteer’s skills and knowledge in practice. This study was conducted utilizing quantitative research method. Theoretical framework includes topics of understanding the definition of volunteer tourism as an alternative type of tourism, motivational factors of voluntourists, as well as approaches in Human Resource Management. A survey was conducted within the BMW IBU World Cup event in Kontiolahti, and its results served as the primary data.
