What Planet Did You Come From? the Atmakaraka, Or Your What Planet Did You Come From? The Atmakaraka, Your or “Soul” Planet I was watching the TV show, Deception, and noticed that the main character, Joanna Locasto, the undercover cop who was investigating the murder of her best friend, had a luminous, soft, and somewhat round face. Her eyes are large and looked like she was lit , from within her whole being seems to shine. The thought occurred to me that the she looked like MOON. The actor, Meagan Good, plays a cop on the show, so I ed expect that Mars would be prominent in her birth chart too as Mars rules the police. Most actors play themselves in some way or another in most of their roles. Not consciously, of course, but because the universe has innate an order that we all follow whether we know it or not. I found h er birth chart data through Astrotheme.com. I cast her chart and expected to see that Atmakaraka, her soul or “essence” planet is the Moon. Sure enough, there it is, the planet at the highest degree (not counting Pluto, Uranus, or Neptune), is the Moon. Furthermore, it’s in the sign of Scorpio, one of the signs ruled by Mars, AND, aspected by ! Mars In fact, she has a Moon/Mars mutual reception, meaning that the Moon is in a Mars sign and Mars is in the Moon’s Sun sign. She has the in the ascendant (the box with the diagonal line through it) and probably adds to her “shine.” Meagan Good birth chart 8/8/1981 06:00:00 Panorama City, CA Lagna: 12 Leo 58 Mars rules Aries and Scorpio; Aries is the masculine, and Scorpio is the feminine version. It’s not surprising that Megan Good’s Moon is in the sign of Scorpio, and that her AK, or soul planet, is , the feminine planet the Moon. In the Jaimini sutras, Jaimini says the Atmakaraka is the planet we came from and the planet we eturn r to. I found to this be a very intriguing thing to say, and I can’t really tell you what it means, except that when you know the characteristics of the planets, you can recognize the “essence” of the people you know personally, and don’t know lly persona . The AK tells you what makes a person tick, how to approach them, have a relationship with them, conquer them if they are an enemy, and how to love them. When you understand what planet you came from (apparently we are all just visitors here on earth as no one is “from” earth), and you understand what that planet is about, you understand your basic essence and what you are doing here. The Atmakaraka is central to your career or vocation in life and it can help you find your way much more world quickly in a of overwhelming options. You may end up doing a career that is related to your s ascendant if your i stronger, but whatever you do, you will be doing it in the way your soul planet dictates. Your AK also describes your type of intelligence. You may have all of the seven types of intelligence well developed, but your main type of intelligence is what all the others will be secondary to (this topic will be covered in the upcoming online course that Ryan Kurczak and I will be more teaching together, about this below). More About the MOON When I Found out that my AK is the Moon, I was not surprised. I was instantly brought back a to memory something of I did when I was about 14 years old. I waited until everyone in my family was asleep, and crept outside under cool the beautiful light of the full Moon. I quietly parted the low-­‐hanging branches and leaves of the big weeping ow will tree we had in the back yard and slipped through, the leaves closing behind me like a pair of curtains. Many ordinary incidents in life, which we pass by and notice not, as well as phenomena of nature, are easily explained with reference to Astrology. There have been indications of it in works which I have previously translated, viz. Brihat Jataka, Jatakaparijata, Sripati Paddhati and Phaladeepika, works by giants of Astrology. As an instance of influence of phenomena of nature on human life, reference may be made to rainbow caused by refraction of Surya’s rays through a watery prism, consisting of particles of rain water. Rainbow is produced on a morning or on an evening, i.e. when Surya is at Lagna or Astha Lagna. Then, when Surya is at Lagna (rising Rasi or Ascendant), seventh Rasi is encircled by beautiful circles of seven variegated colors on a watery plane. Even so, rising Rasi is encircled by circles of like nature, when Surya is posited in 7th Rasi. Lagna represents native, while seventh Rasi denotes partner of native. Life of native will be happy, cordial and jovial if there be a sympathetic, loving and understanding support from partner. Seven colors of rainbow represent seven Grahas, who by various combinations produce seven kinds of energy or seven modes of motion that are found common in Universe. As the planets travel through these zodiac signs, their relative positions with respect to each other changes and is supposed to determine the fate of the human affairs. Pandit Sanjay Rath considers 8 karakas, including Rahu. According to him, in his Jaimini Upadesa Sutras, he has given Rahu also a place as Atma Karak. 2. On the other hand, Dr. K.N. Rao and his followers have taken the 7 planets (excluding Rahu) as Karakas and maintain that Rahu cannot be given the status of Atma Karak. 3. Dr. K.N. Rao has omitted Pitri karak. Instead, he says in “My Seven Step Approach: “What about a karaka for father? The problem is easily solved if you use Bhatrikaraka and Sun for father and Bhatrikaraka and Mars for siblings as has been as shown in some books on Jaimini. Here we must remember that sthirakarakas must always be considered in Jaimini astrology.” 4. Gary Gomes states in “The Structure of Jamini Astrology” as follows: “These karakas are of extreme importance in judging a chart, especially in terms of career potential and, especially, for judging spiritual potential, as indicated in both the Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra and the Jaimini Sutram. There are karakas in Parasara astrology, but these are based on certain natural karakas of the planets. For example, Venus is the natural karaka for marriage and Mars is the karaka for brothers. However, in Jaimini astrology, the karakas can be any of the planets. (I choose to follow Mr. Rao in choosing to exclude the North and South Lunar Node — Rahu and Ketu — as Jaimini karakas for most purposes.

Offering his obeisance to all-knowing sage Parasara and with folded hands, Maitreya said, "O Venerable, Astrology, the supreme limb of the Vedas, has three divisions, viz. Hora, Ganita and Samhita. Among the said three divisions, Hora or genethliac part of astrology is still more excellent. I desire to know of its glorious aspects from you. Be pleased to tell me, "How this Universe is created? How does it end? What is the relationship of the animals born on this earth with the heavenly bodies? Please speak elaborately". 5-8. Parasara answered, O Brahmin, your query (so to say, the desire to know of the intricacies of astrology) has an auspicious purpose in it for the welfare of the Universe. Praying Lord Brahma and Sri Saraswati, His power (and consort), and the Sun God, the leader of the planets and the cause of Creation. I shall proceed to narrate to you the Science of Astrologfy as heard through Lord Brahma. Only good will follow the teaching of this science to the students who are peacefully disposed, who honour the preceptors (and elders), who speak only truth and who are God-fearing. This was not so in ancient times when calculating transits was cumbersome work. In order to make accurate and specific predictions, however, both standard planetary aspects and Rasi aspects have to be used and these both have to be used in conjunction with the Vargas. Activation Points Predicting with transits is based upon determining when certain points become activated by transiting planets. When these points are activated, an event happens. The points that can be activated are the following: 1. A Bhava Cusp 2. The Lords of a Bhava Cusp (The plural is used for Lord as a Bhava has several lords, one in each Varga.) 3. A Graha as a Karaka 4. A Jaimini Cara Karaka These points can be activated Broadly or Exactly. When they are activated Broadly a window of opportunity exits for the point to manifest. This window may be only a few days or up to a few months long. A point is activated Exactly when it is activated by an exact conjunction or aspect. Within the window of opportunity of Broad activation, when the same point or point of similar meaning is activated Exactly, the event happens on the day of the Exact activation.
