From children to older people, everybody struggle to make the right decision. The only option available for people today is to visit great masters in order to get the right decision – but often such decisions aren’t achieved even from great masters. And masters like AMMA also direct people to astrology. Thus it is important that we understand this science of astrology – if not learning and practicing it ourselves, at least understand it so that with help from an astrologer we will be able to make predictions for our future. Though it is true that only Brahmaa can know exactly what will happen, still if we know as to what is in store for us in the future, even if remotely, we will be able to prepare ourselves for the future. Such preparations will ensure that we don’t face problems in worldly life or even if we face problems, we don’t face big problems (so big that it changes our life itself). If only many of the youngsters were provided with advice in astrology, there wouldn’t be people who would be working in a field totally different from what they learnt; even if such people are there, they would be happy knowing their future or what to expect from the future. If only the various married people would have consulted astrology then problems in compatibility and even divorce could have been avoided. There are horoscopes for whom married life itself isn’t good – they could take resort to either parihara or propitiations to mitigate the problem or they could take resort to a life without marriage. But not believing the science of astrology, we find today many marriages ending in divorce (and often many divorces for the same person). Therefore it is important that we learn the simple details of this science of astrology so that we will be able to consult an appropriate astrologer to find out our future, know what to expect from the future and either through propitiations go ahead with our actions or choose a different path itself than what we had in mind earlier. Astrology or jyothisha is called veda chakshu or the eye of Vedas. Considering Vedas as a human being, eyes are the vedanga of astrology (there are six vedangas or those sciences that will help in understanding the Vedas better). Vetti yah vedaangam sah aapnothi paramam padam prathikoolanivaarakam mokshopakaarakam cha 3 Jyothisha Prakaasham Mithuna (Vijaya) Why is it important to have a smooth worldly life? A smooth worldly life is something that we all crave for. Moreover the ultimate goal of life being moksha, we cannot strive towards moksha unless our worldly life is smooth. If our worldly life is filled with all sorts of problems then our focus will only be on solving or getting rid of them than progressing towards moksha. It is when our worldly life is smooth that all our focus will be on moksha – such total focus on moksha is essential for everybody (as the ultimate goal of life for everybody is moksha, whether they know or not, accept or not). The purpose of this magazine is to bring out the nuances of astrology so that normal people will understand the importance of this science and those who are striving to learn astrology will be able to learn astrology through the various articles in this magazine. Those who are already learned in the science of astrology will be able to improve their knowledge through the articles in this magazine – that which they already know will be strengthened and that which they didn’t know, they will be able to grasp. Therefore this magazine serves everybody in the world (as a result of the grace of Lord). In this era where people are shying away from astrology, we should encourage ourselves and others to learn and implement this science of astrology – if not learning, at least to seek an astrologer to get guidance in the same. Thereby they also will be benefitted and the entire world will also be benefitted. May we all strive to learn and implement this science of astrology so that through the prediction of future (problems of the future) we will be able to anticipate the future and thereby smoothly progress towards the goal of moksha; thereby may we all be able to ever rejoice in bliss here and now itself. Vetti yah vedaangam sah aapnothi paramam padam prathikoolanivaarakam mokshopakaarakam cha 4 Jyothisha Prakaasham Mithuna (Vijaya) Jyothisha Vivaranam Arudha Lagna The analysis of chart is also done through various lagnas like arudha lagna, bhava lagna, Hora lagna, Ghatika lagna varnada lagna, nisheka lagna. Arudha lagna of a given chart will correspond to the sign arrived by counting so many signs from the ascendant as its lord is away from it. Ex: If lagna is khumbha and lagna lord Saturn is in Taurus. Then Saturn is 4 places away form lagna. So then the arudha lagna is 4 places from Saturn which is in Taurus. So Arudha lagna is leo. When pada falls in same house, one should take 10 th from it as the arudha lagna. Similarly if 7 th becomes the pada then 4 th from it should be considered as arudha lagna. For example : Sagittarius in certain bhava has Jupiter in it, with the pada having fallen in sagittarius itself, so we count 10 signs from it and reach virgo which is the arudha lagna. One can even calculate the arudha for each house as well. Upapada The arudha rasi for 12 th house from lagna is called upapada. Karakas Each planet is said to be a karaka for particular event in life. The functions of the karakas are similar to the functions of the houses. They play important role in horoscope analysis. There are natural karaka for each event in life. Planet Karaka Sun Father -- pitrukara Moon Mother --- matrukara Kuja Brothers -- bhatrukaraka Mercury Profession – Vetti yah vedaangam sah aapnothi paramam padam prathikoolanivaarakam mokshopakaarakam cha 5 Jyothisha Prakaasham Mithuna (Vijaya) Jupiter children -- putrakaraka Venus spouse -- kalatrakaraka Saturn longevity Rahu maternal relations Ketu paternal relations Karakas as per Jaimini There are 7 main karakas in Jaimini 1) Atmakaraka 2) Amatyakaraka 3) Bhatrukaraka 4) Matrukaraka 5) Putrakaraka 6) Gnathikaraka 6) Darakaraka Atmakaraka The chief or prime lord or indicator is all important. Of all the planet in the chart the planet having highest longitude in a sign becomes the atmakara. The general strength or weakness of the atmakaraka reflects the strength and weakness of the chart. So the position of atmakaraka is very important. The natural atmakaraka is however sun. Amatyakaraka The next highest degree of the planet after Atmakaraka is Amatyakaraka. We can assume mercury to be natural karaka Bhatrukaraka The planet whose longitude is next to the Amatyakaraka becomes the lord of brothers. All events regarding brothers and sisters can be read from bhatrukaraka. Mars is the natural karaka. Matrukaraka The planet that gets the next highest degree is matrukaraka. Moon is however the natural karaka. Putrakaraka The planet that gets next highest degree is called Putrakaraka.Jupiter is the natural karaka. Vetti yah vedaangam sah aapnothi paramam padam prathikoolanivaarakam mokshopakaarakam cha 6 Jyothisha Prakaasham Mithuna (Vijaya) Gnathikaraka The longitude of the planet less than putrakaraka is Gnathikaraka. This is karaka for relations, cousins etc. The natural karaka is mars. Darakaraka The lord of wife is one whose longitude is the least. Natural one is venus. This is for spouse. As per Brihat parasara Hora sastra, the order of eight karakas is as below 1. Atmakaraka 2. Amatyakaraka 3. Bhatrukaraka 4. Matrukaraka 5. Pitrukaraka 6. Putrakaraka 7. Gnatikaraka 8. Streekaraka Karakamsa It the navamsa sign occupied by the atmakaraka. It represents the desire of the soul. Swamsa Should be understood as navamsa lagna. It is also called lagnamsa. It

Sri Srimad A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in March, 1971. He lived in India for 6 years till 1983, studying Jyotish and has received certificate of commendation for spreading Hindu astrology in the USA, from the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, in 1999. Web site: http://www.robertkoch.com n the first Canto of the great Vedic Purana Srimad Bhagavatam, there is a very interesting and instructional conversation that took place between a bull personifying I Dharma, or religion, and Bhumi, the mother earth in the form of a cow. The bull was standing on one leg, suggesting that that one out of four pillars of religious principles (represented by each leg of Dharma, the bull) was still existing, and that in itself was faltering with the progress of Kali-yuga. The four legs of the Dharma are truthfulness, cleanliness, mercy, and austerity. If most or all of these legs of Dharma are broken, or if 3 out of 4 Dharmic principles exist very rarely, in human society, then we can be confident that Kali-yuga – the age of quarrel and darkness – is well upon us. Given that there are some rare souls existing who speak and live the Supreme Absolute Truth, as is found in various Vedic literatures, the remaining leg of truthfulness still exists. Such persons are characterized by complete self-control, or the ability to detach themselves from the relative world of the senses and the objects of sense pleasure.

  • What Planet Did You Come From? the Atmakaraka, Or Your
What Planet Did You Come From? The Atmakaraka, Your or “Soul” Planet I was watching the TV show, Deception, and noticed that the main character, Joanna Locasto, the undercover cop who was investigating the murder of her best friend, had a luminous, soft, and somewhat round face. Her eyes are large and looked like she was lit , from within her whole being seems to shine. The thought occurred to me that the she looked like MOON. The actor, Meagan Good, plays a cop on the show, so I ed expect that Mars would be prominent in her birth chart too as Mars rules the police. Most actors play themselves in some way or another in most of their roles. Not consciously, of course, but because the universe has innate an order that we all follow whether we know it or not. I found h er birth chart data through Astrotheme.com. I cast her chart and expected to see that Atmakaraka, her soul or “essence” planet is the Moon. Sure enough, there it is, the planet at the highest degree (not counting Pluto, Uranus, or Neptune), is the Moon. Furthermore, it’s in the sign of Scorpio, one of the signs ruled by Mars, AND, aspected by ! Mars In fact, she has a Moon/Mars mutual reception, meaning that the Moon is in a Mars sign and Mars is in the Moon’s Sun sign. She has the in the ascendant (the box with the diagonal line through it) and probably adds to her “shine.” Meagan Good birth chart 8/8/1981 06:00:00 Panorama City, CA Lagna: 12 Leo 58 Mars rules Aries and Scorpio; Aries is the masculine, and Scorpio is the feminine version.

  • Uttarakalamritam by Kalidasa
Uttara Kalamritam by Kalidasa Edited by Chistabo, May 2012 Uttarakalamritam by Kalidasa As per English translation by Panditabushana V. Subrahmanya Sastri B.A. 1 Uttara Kalamritam by Kalidasa Edited by Chistabo, May 2012 INTRODUCTION Present is one more addition to existing literature, pertaining to great and celestial science of Astrology. Many ordinary incidents in life, which we pass by and notice not, as well as phenomena of nature, are easily explained with reference to Astrology. There have been indications of it in works which I have previously translated, viz. Brihat Jataka, Jatakaparijata, Sripati Paddhati and Phaladeepika, works by giants of Astrology. As an instance of influence of phenomena of nature on human life, reference may be made to rainbow caused by refraction of Surya’s rays through a watery prism, consisting of particles of rain water. Rainbow is produced on a morning or on an evening, i.e. when Surya is at Lagna or Astha Lagna. Then, when Surya is at Lagna (rising Rasi or Ascendant), seventh Rasi is encircled by beautiful circles of seven variegated colors on a watery plane. Even so, rising Rasi is encircled by circles of like nature, when Surya is posited in 7th Rasi. Lagna represents native, while seventh Rasi denotes partner of native. Life of native will be happy, cordial and jovial if there be a sympathetic, loving and understanding support from partner. Seven colors of rainbow represent seven Grahas, who by various combinations produce seven kinds of energy or seven modes of motion that are found common in Universe. Uttarakalamritam, which is here translated, discloses a treasure house of knowledge on Astrology, so far unrevealed.

The Hindu science of study of these planets is called the Vedic Astrology. Classical Vedic astrology uses the seven visible planets Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn, along with the two lunar nodes, the north and south nodes, Rahu and Ketu. The Hindu astrology is based on an elaborate calculation of the positions of these planets at the time of one's birth. For example, the zodiac is divided in to twelve zones ('houses' of 30 degrees each). The planet Sun travels in to one of these houses each month. Similarly, the other planets have their times of travel through the zodiac assigned to them. As the planets travel through these zodiac signs, their relative positions with respect to each other changes and is supposed to determine the fate of the human affairs. An astrologer can draw up a horoscope of a person based on his time of birth and calculate the relative positions of the planets relative to this horoscope.

Unrevealed Usage Of Karakas Via Chara Dasha An Original Observation By Roberto Velicaz, Italy. Editor: Muhammad Imran, Pakistan [Roberto is a young astrologer with a humble research oriented mind, his first maiden article deserves great applause and encouragement. Additional applause to M. Imran for being the Editor in piecing together this original research in a very lucid and presenting it in a classical style. Roberto remains indebted to K N Rao for revealing Late Vemuri Sastri’s Chara Dasha. The examples illustrated are not for the spoon fed astrologers. - SA] 1 hara Dasha is an important predictive technique in Jyotish. It is basically a sign- based Direction and usually ranked top among Phalit Dashas (periods of good-bad 2 3 fruits). Both Parashar and Jaimini maintained a fair amount of discussion about C Chara Dasha. Yet, controversies over its calculation and utility still exist. The first reason is the highly terse and complex formation of ancient Jyotish texts and the second reason is dozens of their commentaries and annotations. On the other hand, modern living authorities on Jaimini Phalit Dashas, have abstained to decode the codes of Chara Karakas and Chara Dasha (at least in their published stuff). That is why, choosing a flawless path has really become hard for today’s Jyotish learner. This writ-up intends to highlight an untold aspect of timing adverse events through Chara Dasha. According to scribe, there is a direct relation between occurring of adverse event and the running Chara Dasha having Gnathikaraka (GK) in 1st or 6th there from. The particular area of life should scrutinize from relevant divisional chart (Varga Chakra).

  • The Significance Karakas in Jaimini Astrology
THE SIGNIFICANCE KARAKAS IN JAIMINI ASTROLOGY THE SIGNIFICANCE OF KARAKAS IN JAIMINI ASTROLOGY There are difference of opinion among scholars while considering the Chara Karakas to be taken in Jaimini astrology. 1. Pandit Sanjay Rath considers 8 karakas, including Rahu. According to him, in his Jaimini Upadesa Sutras, he has given Rahu also a place as Atma Karak. 2. On the other hand, Dr. K.N. Rao and his followers have taken the 7 planets (excluding Rahu) as Karakas and maintain that Rahu cannot be given the status of Atma Karak. 3. Dr. K.N. Rao has omitted Pitri karak. Instead, he says in “My Seven Step Approach: “What about a karaka for father? The problem is easily solved if you use Bhatrikaraka and Sun for father and Bhatrikaraka and Mars for siblings as has been as shown in some books on Jaimini. Here we must remember that sthirakarakas must always be considered in Jaimini astrology.” 4. Gary Gomes states in “The Structure of Jamini Astrology” as follows: “These karakas are of extreme importance in judging a chart, especially in terms of career potential and, especially, for judging spiritual potential, as indicated in both the Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra and the Jaimini Sutram. There are karakas in Parasara astrology, but these are based on certain natural karakas of the planets. For example, Venus is the natural karaka for marriage and Mars is the karaka for brothers. However, in Jaimini astrology, the karakas can be any of the planets. (I choose to follow Mr. Rao in choosing to exclude the North and South Lunar Node — Rahu and Ketu — as Jaimini karakas for most purposes.

1 Jyotish vidya ( sage Parasara ) Chapter 1. The Creation 1-4. Offering his obeisance to all-knowing sage Parasara and with folded hands, Maitreya said, "O Venerable, Astrology, the supreme limb of the Vedas, has three divisions, viz. Hora, Ganita and Samhita. Among the said three divisions, Hora or genethliac part of astrology is still more excellent. I desire to know of its glorious aspects from you. Be pleased to tell me, "How this Universe is created? How does it end? What is the relationship of the animals born on this earth with the heavenly bodies? Please speak elaborately". 5-8. Parasara answered, O Brahmin, your query (so to say, the desire to know of the intricacies of astrology) has an auspicious purpose in it for the welfare of the Universe. Praying Lord Brahma and Sri Saraswati, His power (and consort), and the Sun God, the leader of the planets and the cause of Creation. I shall proceed to narrate to you the Science of Astrologfy as heard through Lord Brahma. Only good will follow the teaching of this science to the students who are peacefully disposed, who honour the preceptors (and elders), who speak only truth and who are God-fearing. Woeful for ever doubtlessly will it be to impart knowledge of this science to an unwilling student, to a heterodox, and to a crafty person. 9-12. Sri Vishnu who is the lord (of all matters), who has undefiled spirit, who is endowed with the three Gunas although he transcends the grip of Gunas (i.e. Gunatita), who is the Author of this Universe, who is glorious, who is the Cause and who is endowed with valor has no beginning.
