Ascetic Yogas the PATH of SELF-REALIZATION Robert Koch Robert Koch Was Initiated As Sri Patraka Das at the Lotus Feet of H.H
Sri Jagannath Vedic Center, USA Drig dasa August 23, 2002 Ukiah, USA © Robert Koch, 2002 – Published in Jyotish Digest 1 Ascetic Yogas THE PATH OF SELF-REALIZATION Robert Koch Robert Koch was initiated as Sri Patraka Das at the lotus feet of H.H. Sri Srimad A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in March, 1971. He lived in India for 6 years till 1983, studying Jyotish and has received certificate of commendation for spreading Hindu astrology in the USA, from the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, in 1999. Web site: http://www.robertkoch.com n the first Canto of the great Vedic Purana Srimad Bhagavatam, there is a very interesting and instructional conversation that took place between a bull personifying I Dharma, or religion, and Bhumi, the mother earth in the form of a cow. The bull was standing on one leg, suggesting that that one out of four pillars of religious principles (represented by each leg of Dharma, the bull) was still existing, and that in itself was faltering with the progress of Kali-yuga. The four legs of the Dharma are truthfulness, cleanliness, mercy, and austerity. If most or all of these legs of Dharma are broken, or if 3 out of 4 Dharmic principles exist very rarely, in human society, then we can be confident that Kali-yuga – the age of quarrel and darkness – is well upon us. Given that there are some rare souls existing who speak and live the Supreme Absolute Truth, as is found in various Vedic literatures, the remaining leg of truthfulness still exists. Such persons are characterized by complete self-control, or the ability to detach themselves from the relative world of the senses and the objects of sense pleasure. -

What Planet Did You Come From? the Atmakaraka, Or Your
What Planet Did You Come From? The Atmakaraka, Your or “Soul” Planet I was watching the TV show, Deception, and noticed that the main character, Joanna Locasto, the undercover cop who was investigating the murder of her best friend, had a luminous, soft, and somewhat round face. Her eyes are large and looked like she was lit , from within her whole being seems to shine. The thought occurred to me that the she looked like MOON. The actor, Meagan Good, plays a cop on the show, so I ed expect that Mars would be prominent in her birth chart too as Mars rules the police. Most actors play themselves in some way or another in most of their roles. Not consciously, of course, but because the universe has innate an order that we all follow whether we know it or not. I found h er birth chart data through Astrotheme.com. I cast her chart and expected to see that Atmakaraka, her soul or “essence” planet is the Moon. Sure enough, there it is, the planet at the highest degree (not counting Pluto, Uranus, or Neptune), is the Moon. Furthermore, it’s in the sign of Scorpio, one of the signs ruled by Mars, AND, aspected by ! Mars In fact, she has a Moon/Mars mutual reception, meaning that the Moon is in a Mars sign and Mars is in the Moon’s Sun sign. She has the in the ascendant (the box with the diagonal line through it) and probably adds to her “shine.” Meagan Good birth chart 8/8/1981 06:00:00 Panorama City, CA Lagna: 12 Leo 58 Mars rules Aries and Scorpio; Aries is the masculine, and Scorpio is the feminine version. -

Uttarakalamritam by Kalidasa
Uttara Kalamritam by Kalidasa Edited by Chistabo, May 2012 Uttarakalamritam by Kalidasa As per English translation by Panditabushana V. Subrahmanya Sastri B.A. 1 Uttara Kalamritam by Kalidasa Edited by Chistabo, May 2012 INTRODUCTION Present is one more addition to existing literature, pertaining to great and celestial science of Astrology. Many ordinary incidents in life, which we pass by and notice not, as well as phenomena of nature, are easily explained with reference to Astrology. There have been indications of it in works which I have previously translated, viz. Brihat Jataka, Jatakaparijata, Sripati Paddhati and Phaladeepika, works by giants of Astrology. As an instance of influence of phenomena of nature on human life, reference may be made to rainbow caused by refraction of Surya’s rays through a watery prism, consisting of particles of rain water. Rainbow is produced on a morning or on an evening, i.e. when Surya is at Lagna or Astha Lagna. Then, when Surya is at Lagna (rising Rasi or Ascendant), seventh Rasi is encircled by beautiful circles of seven variegated colors on a watery plane. Even so, rising Rasi is encircled by circles of like nature, when Surya is posited in 7th Rasi. Lagna represents native, while seventh Rasi denotes partner of native. Life of native will be happy, cordial and jovial if there be a sympathetic, loving and understanding support from partner. Seven colors of rainbow represent seven Grahas, who by various combinations produce seven kinds of energy or seven modes of motion that are found common in Universe. Uttarakalamritam, which is here translated, discloses a treasure house of knowledge on Astrology, so far unrevealed. -

MORE PRAISE FOR QUIETING THE MONKEY MIND “Having herself benefitted from their beautiful music, my friend Naomi Judd told me about the husband and wife team of renowned musicians and purveyors of peace, Dudley and Dean Evenson, and shared, ‘you need to know these two and their music.’ So I did just that. I invited Dudley and Dean to perform live for some of my guided group meditations. As I discovered for myself, along with my workshop attendees, their musical gifts are immeasurable. The collaboration was beautiful and raised the experience to a higher level. Meditation with music can truly be transcendent. With their book, Quieting the Monkey Mind, Dudley and Dean transcend traditional teachings and skillfully guide us to disconnect from the noise of life while helping us make a deeper and more peaceful connection with ourselves. Their profound collective wisdom shared within these pages is what we can all benefit from to better understand the benefits of meditation, music, and for achieving the harmony we all seek.” —JOAN BORYSENKO, New York Times bestselling author of Minding the Body, Mending the Mind “Music has been at the core of my being all my life. Amidst my personal and professional busyness of family and career, meditation is a practice that I need and can never have too much of. But, making the time, and getting to that ‘quiet place’ is sometimes a challenge. Well, help has arrived! My longtime friends Dudley and Dean Evenson, renowned musicians and creators of tranquil and peaceful music, have written a beautiful book that teaches meditation and the value of incorporating music into your practice. -

The Hindu science of study of these planets is called the Vedic Astrology. Classical Vedic astrology uses the seven visible planets Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn, along with the two lunar nodes, the north and south nodes, Rahu and Ketu. The Hindu astrology is based on an elaborate calculation of the positions of these planets at the time of one's birth. For example, the zodiac is divided in to twelve zones ('houses' of 30 degrees each). The planet Sun travels in to one of these houses each month. Similarly, the other planets have their times of travel through the zodiac assigned to them. As the planets travel through these zodiac signs, their relative positions with respect to each other changes and is supposed to determine the fate of the human affairs. An astrologer can draw up a horoscope of a person based on his time of birth and calculate the relative positions of the planets relative to this horoscope. -

About this Document by A. G. Mohan While reading the document please bear in mind the following: 1. The document seems to have been written during the 1930s and early 40s. It contains gems of advice from Krishnamacharya spread over the document. It can help to make the asana practice safe, effective, progressive and prevent injuries. Please read it carefully. 2. The original translation into English seems to have been done by an Indian who is not proficient in English as well as the subject of yoga. For example: a. You may find translations such as ‘catch the feet’ instead of ‘hold the feet’. b. The word ‘kumbhakam’ is generally used in the ancient texts to depict pranayama as well as the holdings of the breath. The original translation is incorrect and inconsistent in some places due to such translation. c. The word ‘angulas’ is translated as inches. Some places it refers to finger width. d. The word ‘secret’ means right methodology. e. ‘Weighing asanas’ meaning ‘weight bearing asanas’. 3. While describing the benefits of yoga practice, asana and pranayama, many ancient Ayurvedic terminologies have been translated into western medical terms such as kidney, liver, intestines, etc. These cannot be taken literally. 4. I have done only very minimal corrections to this original English translation to remove major confusions. I have split the document to make it more meaningful. 5. I used this manuscript as an aid to teaching yoga in the 1970s and 80s. I have clarified doubts in this document personally with Krishnamacharya in the course 2 of my learning and teaching. -

Unrevealed Usage of Karakas Via Chara Dasha an Original Observation by Roberto Velicaz, Italy
Unrevealed Usage Of Karakas Via Chara Dasha An Original Observation By Roberto Velicaz, Italy. Editor: Muhammad Imran, Pakistan [Roberto is a young astrologer with a humble research oriented mind, his first maiden article deserves great applause and encouragement. Additional applause to M. Imran for being the Editor in piecing together this original research in a very lucid and presenting it in a classical style. Roberto remains indebted to K N Rao for revealing Late Vemuri Sastri’s Chara Dasha. The examples illustrated are not for the spoon fed astrologers. - SA] 1 hara Dasha is an important predictive technique in Jyotish. It is basically a sign- based Direction and usually ranked top among Phalit Dashas (periods of good-bad 2 3 fruits). Both Parashar and Jaimini maintained a fair amount of discussion about C Chara Dasha. Yet, controversies over its calculation and utility still exist. The first reason is the highly terse and complex formation of ancient Jyotish texts and the second reason is dozens of their commentaries and annotations. On the other hand, modern living authorities on Jaimini Phalit Dashas, have abstained to decode the codes of Chara Karakas and Chara Dasha (at least in their published stuff). That is why, choosing a flawless path has really become hard for today’s Jyotish learner. This writ-up intends to highlight an untold aspect of timing adverse events through Chara Dasha. According to scribe, there is a direct relation between occurring of adverse event and the running Chara Dasha having Gnathikaraka (GK) in 1st or 6th there from. The particular area of life should scrutinize from relevant divisional chart (Varga Chakra).
