Doncaster BSF Programme

Estate Strategy

Following the revisions to the School Chart above we have developed further the School Estate strategy. The proposals below give an outline of what the impact will be at individual schools. Table 1 sets out the proposed phasing of the BSF Programme.

Central South and New Visions Learning Collaborative

The Armthorpe School

This is proposed as an 11-18 Foundation Trust school (joint 14-19 Trust with Danum) with a capacity of 600 (750 in SFC1) and an admission number of 120 (4 forms of entry). It is proposed to redevelop the existing site to accommodate the 11-16 cohort through a combination of remodelling and refurbishment of existing buildings with some new build (full new build in SFC1). Post-16 provision is to be provided in partnership with Danum School. Sports facilities will be developed on site to support the school’s sports specialism and enhanced provision for the local community. Existing multi- agency, youth and community facilities will be reprovided and incorporated into the new and improved buildings. Links with local primary schools are also being explored.

Danum School College

This is proposed as an 11-18 Foundation Trust school (joint 14-19 Trust with Armthorpe) with a capacity of 1800 and an admission number of 270 (9 forms of entry), with joint post-16 provision with The Armthorpe School. The existing split site will be rationalised, most likely on to a single site at the existing upper school. Development of this site will include improvements to the adjacent Heatherwood SEN School, and development of shared facilities and improved links with this school will form part of the proposals. The Authority will consider how best to utilise the lower school site, which may include development of multi-agency, community, and other extended services or disposal.

Hall Cross School and Mathematics College

This is proposed to remain as an 11-18 Community School with a capacity of 1325 and an admission number of 210 (7 forms of entry). We intend that the existing split site will be rationalised to provide the majority of the school’s accommodation on a single site. If an alternative site cannot be found within the catchment the school will be rebuilt on the existing site at Bessacar. It is currently not clear whether this site is of sufficient size and it may be necessary to retain some provision at the existing Upper School site in the town centre. In either case the town centre site will be rationalised and provide an opportunity to develop multi-agency, community, and other extended services.

Harmony Learning Collaborative

The Hayfield School

This is proposed to remain as an 11-18 Foundation School with a capacity of 1125 and an admission number of 180 (6 forms of entry). The existing school will be refurbished with some new build.

McAuley Catholic High School - Performing Arts This is proposed to remain as an 11-18 Voluntary Aided School with a capacity of 1675 and an admission number of 270 (9 forms of entry). The school is currently located on a split site and there are concerns regarding the movement of pupils between the two sites across a busy road. It is proposed to relocate the school onto a single site. Investigations have shown that the most feasible option is to relocate onto the existing lower school site. The existing buildings on that site would be remodelled and extended.

Rossington All Saints CE Aided Sports College

The school relocated in September 2008 to newly built premises. It is proposed to remain as a Voluntary Aided school with a capacity of 875 and an admission number of 150 (5 forms of entry). The school was recently rebuilt and opened in September 2008. This school is not included within the BSF proposals.

South West Learning Collaborative

Balby Carr Community Sports College

This is proposed as an 11-18 Academy with a capacity of 1250 and an admission number of 210 (7 forms of entry). The existing school will be refurbished with some new build.

Edlington School Business and Enterprise College

This is school is due to open January 2009 in newly built premises procured through a PFI scheme with a capacity of 1312. It is proposed to remain as a Community school and an admission number of 210 (7 forms of entry). This school is not included within the BSF proposals.

Mexborough School

This is school is due to open January 2009 in newly built premises procured through a PFI scheme with a capacity of 1273. It is proposed to remain as a Community school and an admission number of 210 (7 forms of entry). This school is not included within the BSF proposals although the school will work in partnership with Northcliffe School and Dearne Valley College to jointly deliver post 16 provision.

Northcliffe School

This is proposed as an 11-19 Academy with a capacity of 750 and an admission number of 150 (5 forms of entry). The school will be rebuilt to accommodate the 11-16 cohort with post-16 provision provided in partnership with Dearne Valley College and Mexborough School. The possibility of aligning primary capital funding to consider the amalgamation and collocation of local junior and infants schools is currently being explored.
