Demographic Adwick, Don Valley and Ridgewood are located to the north of Doncaster. Within the planning area 95% of the children are White British, the other 5% are made up of other nationalities, the largest being Polish. In 2015 the planning area had an IMD of 37.20%, in 2019 data shows that the area has decreased slightly to 35.12%. The planning area is consistently higher than the Doncaster average. Birth rates have varied in the planning area for the last 6 years. Within the planning area 6% of primary and 4% of secondary pupils are EAL, the most common first language other than English locally is Polish. There is currently housing developments planned totalling 801 dwellings across the area, which are projected to be completed at various stages in the next 10 years. 1b. Schools The area consists of a range of learning provision types from both the school/academy and PVI sector offering a mix of flexible provision. There are 27 schools in the planning area, 16 are maintained schools of which two are faith schools and eleven have converted to academy status. There is a program of capital investment in Doncaster. Within this area, 2 schools and 1 PVI have accessed Capital funding and 15 schools have accessed the Safeguarding and Access Fund. Pupil absence in the pyramid is slightly below Doncaster and in line with national averages for primary schools and lower than averages for secondary. School projections show that although there are particular clusters of shortfalls in primary overall across the planning area sufficient places remain available. Secondary data shows significant shortfall across the planning area as a whole from 2019 intake. 4 1c. Childcare and Early Years Spring 2020 data shows that vacancies remain available in all age groups, however there is a lack of provision for after 6pm and no childcare available on weekends. This could cause difficulty for working parents. Childcare costs for full day care within the planning area is higher than the Doncaster average however lower in all other sectors. All childcare costs are lower than the Yorkshire and Humber average. The take up of 2 year old early education funding borough wide has increased by 6.6% from Autumn 2019 to Autumn 2020. The take up of the 3 and 4 universal provision borough wide has decreased by 4.3% from Autumn 2019 to Autumn 2020. The take up of the 30 hours extended entitlement borough wide has increased by 1.8% from Autumn 2019 to Autumn 2020. There are no identified concerns from families in the planning area highlighting shortfalls in provision. 1d. SEND There is one special school geographically located within the planning area, however this is a boroughwide provision, additionally all learning provision settings have to meet the requirements of the SEN Code of Practice and Disability Discrimination Act requirements. 5 2. Overview The data within this report aims to provide an overview of the Adwick, Don Valley and Ridgewood Secondary Planning Areas, the available learning provision within the areas and identify any pressures or shortfalls which will form part of the borough wide Learning
