From Curtis Ken Curtis To Eleanor Eleanor Parker An exercise in Proximity and Happenstance by Clark N. Nelson, Sr. (May be updated periodically: Last update 06-07-20) 1 Prelude The quality within several photographs, in particular, those from the motion pictures ‘Untamed Women’, ‘Santa Fe Passage’, and ‘The King and Four Queens’, might possibly prove questionable, yet were included based upon dwindling sources and time capsule philosophy. • Film Noir Classics -- Movie Posters 1948-1950
FILM NOIR CLASSICS -- MOVIE POSTERS 1948-1950 The distinctive style of movies of the golden age of Film Noir, the genre of Hollywood crime dramas distinguished by liberal doses of sex and cynicism, is captured in the striking graphics of these classic movie posters. The portrait that emerges of a darker side of mid-twentieth century America makes them a compelling resource for the study of that period as well as for film history archives. The light-hearted Gary Cooper / Barbara Stanwyck comedy “Ball of Fire” of 1941 that we include at the end of this listing drives home this contrast…but no matter what, somebody is going to get burned… Clicking on the item picture will take you to our website for ordering via our secure online system. We hope that you will enjoy this selection. Elisabeth Burdon & Craig Clinton ____________________________________________________ Backfire. Warner Bros. Hollywood. 1948 - 1950. One-sheet color silk-screen poster, 40 x 30 inches, for the 1950 Warner Brothers production "Backfire" directed by Vincent Sherman and starring Gordon MacRae, Edmond O’Brien, and Virginia Mayo (the film was completed in late 1948 but not released until 1950). The poster, a scarce item and in very good condition, was produced by Western Poster Company, San Francisco. "Backfire," a complicated drama involving numerous flashbacks, concerns a World War II veteran Bob Corey (MacRae), a nurse he meets while hospitalized, Julie Benson (Mayo), and Corey's good friend Steve Connolly (O'Brien). After considerable mayhem as the drama unfolds, including a near fatal attempt on Connolly's life, the film delivers a happy ending with the trio heading for Bob and Julie's new ranch.

  • Twentieth Century Fox: 1935-1965
The Museum of Modern Art For Immediate Release June 1990 Twentieth Century Fox: 1935-1965 July 1 - September 11, 1990 This summer, The Museum of Modern Art pays tribute to Twentieth Century Fox with a retrospective of over ninety films made between 1935 and 1965. Opening on July 1, 1990, TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX: 1935-1965 traces three key decades in the history of the studio, celebrating the talents of the artists on both sides of the cameras who shaped this period. The exhibition continues through September 11. Formed in 1915, the Fox Film Corporation merged in 1935 with the much younger Twentieth Century to launch a major new studio. The studio also featured such fresh screen personalities as Tyrone Power, Alice Faye, and Shirley Temple. From this time on, the studio masterfully anticipated and shaped the tastes of the movie-going public. During World War II, Twentieth Century Fox made its mark with a series of exuberant Technicolor musicals featuring such actresses as Betty Grable and Carmen Miranda. After the war, the studio shifted focus and began to highlight other genres including films noirs such as Edmund Goulding's Nightmare Alley (1947) and Otto Preminger's Where the Sidewalk Ends (1950), wry satirical films such as Joseph L.
