Ausgangslage A series of exposed rock face cuttings, on the railway line between Dingwall and Kyle of Lochalsh in North West Scotland, were in need of active stabilisation to protect the railway line. This was typically required in areas where the rock mass structure dipped out of the cutting leading to the potential for wedge and planar failure in addition to small rockfalls. Where the structure of the rock mass was less critical and the risk to railway operations resulted only from rockfalls drape netting was employed.
Massnahme TECCO® G65/3 was used in conjunction with rockbolts to stabilise rock cuttings. Individual blocks were bolted in addition to the mesh which was contoured around the face and blocks. Photos illustrate a cutting where the slope on the left side required active support of relatively large and potentially unstable blocks where TECCO® G65/3 together with TECCO® SYSTEM³ spike plates was used. On the opposite side of the cutting the main risk was from falls of small blocks and here a drape system was employed.
