From Fort William (A82 heading North)

Method Details

Own Road 2 Main Routes are outlined. Route 1 is the most direct, over the Bealach Na Ba. Transport Route 1 1. Coming from once you are in Fort William, at West End roundabout take the 2nd exit onto the A82 (signposted for ); 2. Continue until second roundabout, take 2nd exit onto A82 (signposted Inverness, Mallaig); 3. Continue until third roundabout, take 1st exit onto A82 (signposted Inverness, Mallaig); 4. Continue until fourth roundabout, take 2nd exit onto A82 (signposted Inverness); 5. Continue to Spean Bridge where you bear left (after hotel) towards Kyle of ; 6. Continue passing the Commando Memorial on your left and over the Laggan Bridge; 7. Turn left in Glengarry onto the A87 (signposte for ); 8. Pass the Glengarry viewpoint on your left; 9. At the next main junction, turn left (remaining on the A87) towards Kyle of Lochalsh and the ; 10. Continue past Clunie Inn, Sheil Bridge, Inverinate and Dornie; 11. Turn right onto the A890 (signposted , ); 12. Continue towards Lochcarron passing Achmore, and Strathcarron; 13. Just past Strathcarron, turn left at the junction onto the A896; 14. You will see on the signpost!; 15. Continue and pass through Lochcarron and then on through Kishorn; 16. You will start to see the hills of Applecross on your left as you drive past ; 17. At Tornapress turn left onto the Bealach Na Ba, prepare to be amazed!; 18. Continue until you reach Applecross at the other side!; 19. Once you have come over the cattlegrid continue around the bend to the bottom of the brae (hill); 20. Turn left here and the Inn is approx. 300m on your left.

Route 2 – as route 1 until point 16 THEN

12. At Tornapress continue towards Sheildaig on the A896 through the glen; 13. About a mile before Sheildaig turn left towards Applecross; 14. Continue, passing through Arrina, Kenmore, Fernamore, Callakille and Lonbain; 15. You will pass a big sand dune on your right as you go up a hill; 16. Continue and you will begin to see in front of you; 17. The row of buildings you see is Shore Street and the Inn is the first one; 18. Come around the head of Applecross bay and continue until you reach the Inn on your left. Train Please refer to the general local public transport information. As there are no trains to Applecross if using public transport you will have to use a mixture of trains and buses.

The trains which may be applicable from Fort William either go to Mallaig or Inverness. Please refer to www.scotrail.co.uk for current timetables. The most direct route would be the train to Inverness and then on the local bus to Applecross.

From Mallaig you would then have to get a ferry to Armadale on the , refer to www.calmac.co.uk for ferry details. From Armadale there are buses to Kyle of Lochalsh, please refer to www.lochalsh.co.uk/transport for details. Once you are in Kyle of Lochalsh there are trains on the Kyle of Lochalsh to Inverness line. The nearest train station to Applecross is Strathcarron. From Inverness the nearest train service to Applecross is Strathcarron on the Inverness to . It is best to check with Scotrail, www.scotrail.co.uk for current timetables.

Bus Please refer to the general local public transport information. There is no direct bus to Applecross from Fort William. You will have to either use a mixture of bus services or a mixture of bus and train services.

The main bus services which are applicable from Fort William either go to Kyle of Lochalsh or Inverness. Please refer to www.citylink.co.uk/timetables.php for current timetables. The most direct route would be via Inverness then on the local bus to Applecross.

From Kyle of Lochalsh there are trains on the Kyle of Lochalsh to Inverness line. The nearest train station to Applecross is Strathcarron. It is best to check with Scotrail www.scotrail.co.uk for current timetables.

From Inverness There is a 3 times a week bus service from Inverness bus station to Applecross travelling on a Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. This is operated by Lochcarron Garage and passengers must book a seat by 6pm the night before travelling, as Applecross is a request stop.
