4 Calgary Meals on Wheels | Annual Report 2018

March 2019

A MESSAGE FROM MAYOR NENSHI

On behalf of my City Council colleagues and the citizens of Calgary, I would like to congratulate Calgary Meals on Wheels on another year of tireless service to the citizens of Calgary in 2018.

In 1965, concerns that elderly people living alone were being discharged from hospitals with no support system during their convalescence has grown to what Calgary Meals on Wheels is today. What began as a small operation, delivering meals to eight clients from a church basement has grown into a thriving, innovative production facility that prepared, packaged and delivered 668,985 meals in 2018. Each month, over 5,300 Calgarians receive nutritious meals to help meet the most basic of needs – daily nutrition.

I’d also like to commend the Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) program for their support of operating costs to Calgary Meals on Wheels. It takes a village to care for its vulnerable people and I’m thankful that this organization does its part to help citizens maintain their dignity and independence and enjoy healthy food. It also warms my heart that there were over 2,800 “More than a Meal” deliveries made this year – ensuring recipients also enjoyed flowers, cards, birthday and holiday gifts.

Thank you for your amazing public service and I wish you all the very best in 2019!

Sincerely,

Naheed K. Nenshi MAYOR
