Lieutenant Commander Douglas M. Marks United States Navy

Lieutenant Commander Douglas M. Marks is a native of Evansville, Indiana. He enlisted in the Navy in 1999 as a Hospital Corpsman, and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2006 as a Surface Warfare Officer. He was selected for lateral transfer to the Information Warfare community (Intelligence) in November of 2013. He holds a Master of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Maryland and a Master of Arts degree in Defense and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College.

As a Fleet Marine Force Hospital Corpsman, Lieutenant Commander Marks served with Second Battalion, Third Marines, Third Marine Division homeported in Kaneohe Bay, HI. During this tour, he deployed to Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan and various location throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Among his operational commands, Lieutenant Commander Marks served as the Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer and Navigation, Administration, and Medical Department Head aboard USS Russell (DDG 59), completing four deployments in support of COMSEVENTHFLT, COMFIFTHFLT, and COMSIXTHFLT operations and the Global War on Terrorism. During his initial Intelligence Officer assignment, Lieutenant Commander Marks served as Senior Watch Officer and Executive Intelligence Support Briefer at United States Transportation Command, where he was named the United States Transportation Command J2 Directorate Company Grade Officer of the Year for 2014. In his subsequent intelligence assignment, Lieutenant Commander Marks served as the Officer in Charge of the Fleet Intelligence Adaptive Force, Bahrain, overseeing key intelligence operations in the region.

Fleet support assignments include Marking Officer, United States Naval Academy, where he briefed the Superintendent and Academic Review Board on midshipmen performance and retention. Additionally he served as Officer in Charge, Training Support Center, Hampton Roads, preparing the Norfolk waterfront for Fleet operations through education and training. Prior to being selected as a Junior Permanent Military Professor of Chemistry at the United States Naval Academy, he completed 15 months as a fellow in the Halsey Advanced Research Group at the United States Naval War College examining potential military challenges within the Middle East.

Lieutenant Commander Marks' awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards), “Battle E” (3 awards), Good Conduct Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
