STANFORD - NICOLE CARROLL of the San Mateo Athletic Club broke the meet record in the javelin and three other athletes also set new meet records during first day competition at the Stanford Track & Field Invitational. The two-day meet, which concludes on Saturday, was held at Stanford's new track & field venue, Cobb Track and Angell Field. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. CARROLL broke her own meet record with a toss of 186-6. Her old mark, set in 1994, was 174-8. Former Stanford All-American JEN MCCORMICK, now competing for the San Mateo Athletic Club, placed second with a throw of 164-11. CARROLL attended College of San Mateo, was an All-American at Fresno State and was a member of the U.S. team at the World Championships in 1995. CALVIN HARRISON broke the meet record in the 400 meters with a time of 45.93. That time easily broke the old time of 46.46 set by HUGH POWELL of Central State of Ohio in 1994. HARRISON was a former state high school championship in the sprints from North Salinas High School.
