First Day Results Stanford Track & Field Invitational ST ANFORD MEDIA RELATIONS FIRST DAY RESULTS STANFORD TRACK & FIELD INVITATIONAL FRIDAY, MARCH 22, 1996 COBB TRACK & ANGELL FIELD Stanford University, Department of Athletics, Stanford, CA 94305-6150 (415) 723-4418 Contact: Bob Vazquez, Media Relations Director STANFORD MEDIA RELATIONS For Immediate Release: Friday, March 22, 1996 FOUR MEET RECORDS HIGHLIGHT FIRST DAY OF STANFORD TRACK & FIELD INVITATIONAL RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY SLATED FOR SATURDA Y - 11:30 A.M. STANFORD - NICOLE CARROLL of the San Mateo Athletic Club broke the meet record in the javelin and three other athletes also set new meet records during first day competition at the Stanford Track & Field Invitational. The two-day meet, which concludes on Saturday, was held at Stanford's new track & field venue, Cobb Track and Angell Field. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. CARROLL broke her own meet record with a toss of 186-6. Her old mark, set in 1994, was 174-8. Former Stanford All-American JEN MCCORMICK, now competing for the San Mateo Athletic Club, placed second with a throw of 164-11. CARROLL attended College of San Mateo, was an All-American at Fresno State and was a member of the U.S. team at the World Championships in 1995. CALVIN HARRISON broke the meet record in the 400 meters with a time of 45.93. That time easily broke the old time of 46.46 set by HUGH POWELL of Central State of Ohio in 1994. HARRISON was a former state high school championship in the sprints from North Salinas High School. LADONNA ANTOINE of Utah State broke the meet record in the 400 meters with a time of 53.61. The old mark was 54.9 by MAYA GREEN of California in 1995 and BEVERLY GRANT of Central State of Ohio in 1994. CARLA ESTES of Logan High School in Fremont broke the meet record in the 400 meters with a time of 55.45. That broke the time of KASELAIR CROCKETT of Oakland's Skyline High School in 1995. Stanford's JEN DALTON captured fisrt place honors in the pole vault. The Cardinal men's distance relay team finished first. Stanford's SARNA RENFRO qualified for NCAA's in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:09.84. JUSTIN STRAND was an NCAA provisonal qualifier in the hammer with a throw of 202-2. JIMMIE JOHNSON qualified for the Pac-10 Championships with a 47.42 time in the 400 meters. MONAL CHOKSHI was an NCAA provisional qualifier in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:30.74. Dear Dr. Flores: The U.S. Department of Education (Department), Office for Civil Rights (OCR), has completed its investigation of the above-referenced complaint against the Gilroy Unified School District (District). The Complainant alleged that the District discriminated against English learner students on the basis of national origin language minority status and students with disabilities. Specifically, OCR investigated the following issues: 1. Whether the District failed to provide English learners (EL) students at the secondary level with an effective program of English language development (ELD) and access to the content of the curriculum; 2. Whether the District failed to ensure that all teachers assigned to implement its program for EL students at the secondary level were appropriately qualified to do so; and 3. Whether the District denied a free appropriate public education (FAPE) to some special education students at Gilroy High School by not placing them in study skills classes consistent with their individualized education program (IEP) plans. OCR investigated the complaint under the authority of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 42 U.S.C. §2000d, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504), and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (Title II), and their implementing regulations.

Collecting waivers for each event has proven quite challenging in the past, so now we try to take care of the majority of this pesky paperwork up front for this season. We are requesting that you fill out ALL of the forms for EVERY tournament – whether you think you will be attending or not. Please complete ALL of the forms in this packet. Then PRINT OUT the completed packet (1 sided please!) **If you are a Black team player or any u19, please print out 2 copies of the Stanford Tournament Release form.** Packet printouts are due at DAY 1 check-in, Sunday, Jan 13th. If you cannot attend Day 1, please turn in your packets to Coach Anthony or Coach Mary on Field 7 at Tuesdays’s practice at Twin Creeks. Note – The waivers for the UC Berkeley and UC Davis tournaments will be online. I will send out instructions for those as we get them form organizers. We may add a tournament or 2 as we go through the season. We will distribute any additional waiver forms needed as we enter teams in those tourneys. Here is the current tournament list.
