BEN TAYLOR CEO BRITISH AUTOMOBILE RACING CLUB Welcome to the first Thruxton Historic meeting! OK, so it’s not the first historic meeting at Thruxton, nor is it the first time that we have worked with Duncan and Richard and the fabulous team at Historic Promotions, but it’s the first event under the new banner of the Thruxton Historic. We had such high hopes for this event at the start of the year. It was the big development of the 2020 season at Thruxton. A new identity, and new impetus and a genuine desire on everyone’s part to establish the Thruxton Historic among the list of must-do events in the historic racing calendar. Sadly, our friends at COVID HQ had other ideas. Our wonderful plans lie in tatters and we are of course disappointed not to be able to deliver the event we had hoped for, but in the overall context of the damage that has been done to people, families, friends and livelihoods, we are simply grateful to be able to have you all here for the weekend. The circuit team have done an amazing job getting our venue up to speed again after the lockdown and making sure that it is suitably prepared for the current regulations. We may not have the big crowds, the air displays, the car clubs and the brilliant atmosphere that we were hoping to generate. But we do have 2.4 miles of historic circuit whose layout is largely untouched since most of these cars were here for the first time. We hope that you have a wonderful weekend of fun, racing and bonhomie – all socially-distanced of course. Come 2021, we would be thrilled if you came back so see how we would have done it this year, had we had the chance. Before 2021, we have a number of race meetings to fit in to a condensed 2020 season. Our next race meeting is only a week later (22/23 August), with the BRSCC arriving at Thruxton for two days of action filled racing from a range of Caterham Championships, the BMW Compact Cup, Project8 Racing, Civic Cup and a rare visit from the Fun Cup. Next we welcome a delayed visit from the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship (19/20 September). The BTCC always provides spectacular racing. We’re working with Motorsport UK to seek additional clarification as to whether spectators can attend for the BTCC meeting. Tickets will be back on sale as soon as possible. If for whatever reason, it proves not to be possible to have spectators at Thruxton for the BTCC, all ticket holders will automatically receive a full refund. Bringing the 2020 season to a close is a new BARC meeting (24/25 October) featuring; Distrigo C1 Challenge, BARC Saloon Series, Kumho BMW Championship, Mini 7 Racing Club, Mighty Minis Championship and TransAm. DUNCAN WILTSHIRE RICHARD GRAFTON HISTORIC PROMOTIONS A very warm welcome from Historic Promotions We’re delighted to welcome you to the Thruxton Historic, albeit in circumstances none of us would have predicted a few months ago! Building on the success of last year’s Thruxton Motorsport Celebration, the Thruxton Historic event was launched by Historic Promotions in partnership with Thruxton Circuit as a showcase for the finest historic motor racing grids, incorporating a range of other attractions to make a weekend of entertainment for all the family. Whilst we have had to curtail some of those off-track attractions this year, and despite the rescheduled date, we have been thrilled to see such a fantastic level of support from the competitors, with some terrific racing in prospect. This weekend, we have no less than five series in action from our Motor Racing Legends operation. A combined grid for the Royal Automobile Club Woodcote Trophy and the Stirling Moss Trophy will celebrate the best of the 1950s sports cars era, while Touring Cars are represented in force in the combined grid for the Historic Touring Car Challenge, featuring cars from the 1970s and 1980s, and the Sixties Touring Car Challenge with U2TC, featuring cars from the 1960s. And making their debuts at Thruxton this year we also have the glorious Pre ’63 GT and the thoroughly entertaining Pre-War Sport Cars grids in action. We’re also delighted to once again be joined by three excellent grids from the Historic Racing Drivers’ Club – for Pre-’66 Touring Cars; for classic Alfa Romeos and for pre-66 Sports, GT and Touring cars - as well as the popular GT & Sports Car Cup for pre-66 GTs and Pre-63 Sports-Cars joining us for the first time. For many people this will be the first time out in their car this season, so we wish all drivers, mechanics, officials, marshals and spectators a safe and thoroughly enjoyable weekend here at Thruxton. Finally, we would like to thank everyone here at Thruxton Circuit and BARC for all the hard work they have put into making this event happen in such extraordinary times. It really is a fantastic team here and we’re looking forward to working together again in 2021!
