Development of the Genital System Development of the gonads Dr Ahmed Salman The gonads develop form three sources (the first two are mesodermal, the third one is endodermal ) . 1.Proliferating coelomic epithelium on the medial side of the mesonephros. 2. Adjacent mesenchyme dorsal to the proliferating coelomic epithelium. 3. Primordial germ cells (endodermal), which develop in the wall of the yolk sac and migrate along the dorsal mesentery to reach the developing gonad. DR AHMED SALMAN The indifferent stage of the developing gonads - The coelomic epithelium (on either side of the aorta) proliferates and becomes multi layered and forms a longitudinal projection into the coelomic cavity called the genital ridge. - The genital ridge forms a number of epithelial cords called the primary sex cords that invade the underlying mesenchyme, which separate the cords from each other. - Up to the 6th or 7th week, the developing gonad cannot be differentiated into testis or ovary. DR AHMED SALMAN DR AHMED SALMAN Development of the testis and its descent Under the effect of the testis determining factor (T.D.F) present on the short arm of Y - chromosome, the undifferentiated gonad is switched to form a testis. 1. The coelomic epithelium. - The primary sex cords elongate to form testis cords (future seminiferous tubules) which undergo three important events : • Ventrally, they lose contact with the surface epithelium by the developing tunica albuginae. • Dorsally, they communicate with each other to form rete testis. • Internally, they are invaded by the primitive germ cells. DR AHMED SALMAN The testis cords become lined by two types of cells: A.

In this study, we use twenty pregnant rabbit, five rabbit at age 22 days, 24 days, 26 days and 30 days of pregnancy. Then the ovaries get out of the body, fixed in 10% formalin and processed for microscopic study, which show that the cortex of ovaries was filled with a lot of follicles in different types and sizes. Also this study show that the numbers of primary and primordial follicle decrease with gestation. While the number of secondary follicles decrease through all stage of pregnancy. The morphometrical result shows increase in the number of tertiary follicles in the last day of pregnancy. Key words : Ovary, gestation, rabbit. E-mail: [email protected] Accepted: 2/9/2015 Summary The ovarian histomorphometric in adult normal and unilateral ovariectomized Iraqi black goats (Age 7 months) was studied to evaluate the effect of laparoscopic unilateral ovariectomy of young goat (age 2-3 months) on other remaining ovary histologically. Ten young female Iraqi black goats were used in the study. The goats were divided randomly into two equal groups; young goats were left normal (group A) and young goats underwent to right laparoscopic unilateral ovariectomy (group B). All animals in both groups were left to reach adult stage at 7 months age, in which they underwent to removal their ovaries laparoscopically by using the harmonic scalpel. Operations were performed under general anesthesia by using of a mixture of xylazine and ketamine intramuscularly. The ovarian histomorphometric included; height of germinal epithelium and thickness of tunica albuginea, cortex and medulla were measured at adult stage for both groups. The study revealed a significant elevation (P<0.05) in thickness value of tunica albuginea, cortex and medulla in the right ovary compared with the left one in normal adult goat (group A). The left ovary in group (B) showed significant increase in the thickness value of tunica albuginea, cortex and medulla compared with those in similar (left) ovary in group (A) which indicated that the remaining ovary in group (B) showed compensatory action in increasing their histological structures measurements.

ANIMAL TISSUE INTRODUCTION Tissue : A group of cells similar in structure, function and origin. In a tissue cells my be dissimilar in structure and function but they are always similar in origin. – Word animal tissue was coined by – Bichat – N. Grew coined the term for Plant Anatomy. – Study of tissue – Histology – Histology word was given by – Mayar – Father of Histology – Bichat – Study of tissue is also called Microscopic anatomy. – Founder of microscopic anatomy – Marcello Malpighi Based on functions & location tissues are classified into four types : Type Origin Function 1. Epithelial tissue Ectoderm, endoderm, mesoderm Protection, secretion, absorption etc. 2. Connective tissue Mesoderm Support, binding, storage, protection, circulation. 3. Muscular tissue Mesoderm Contraction and movement 4. Nervous tissue Ectoderm. Conduction and control EPITHELIAL TISSUE Word epithelium is composed of two words Epi – Upon Thelio – grows A tissue which grows upon another tissue is called Epithelium. – Cells are either single layered or multilayered. – Cells are compactly arranged and there is no intercellular matrix. – Cells of lowermost layer always rest on a non living basement membrane. – Cells are capable of division and regeneration throughout the life. – Free surface of the cells may have fine hair cilia or microvilli or may be smooth. – Epithelial tissue is non-vascularised. Due to absence/less of intercellular spaces blood vessels, lymph vessels are unable to pierce this tissue so blood circulation is absent in epithelium. Hence cells depend for their nutrients on underlying connective tissue.

Isoxicam is a member of NSAIDs group use to stop inflammation, pain associated with arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing and spondylitis. The goal of the present study is to revealed the effect of different doses of Isoxicam on ovaries tissue in mice. Twenty four female mice are randomly divided into control (n = 6) and experimental (n=18) groups. The experimental groups are subdivides into three groups . Each administrated by (0.0714, 0.1428, 0.71428)mg/kg/day for twenty days, respectively; however the control group just injected by distill water. In twenty day, mice were killed and ovaries tissue was prepared for light microscopic examination. All the experimental animals were injected by drug revealed a hyperplasia of germinal cells on the surface of ovary, tongue like projection of primordial oocytes extend to the medulla, multiple oocytes with disarrangement of follicles and deficient of follicular fluid associated with disappearance of oocytes, vacuolation in the cortical layer of the ovary, compressed premature follicle, hypercellularity of follicular cells, degeneration of germinal layer of cortex surface and hyperplasia of primordial oocytes, therefore it is recommended that using of this drug have many side adverse on female fertility.
