The 2011 Virginia Oil Painters of America Paint Out will be held at Tuckahoe Plantation just west of Richmond, Virginia, on October 15 with a rain date of October 16. Tuckahoe Plantation is located at 12601 River Road, Richmond, Virginia 23238. The phone number is 804- 784-5736. The paint out will be from 9 AM - 4 PM. The site is a national Historic Landmark and is located along the James River and remains privately owned although open to the public on a regular basis. It is considered the finest existing early 18th century plantation in the country. The plantation still has the original schoolhouse where Thomas Jefferson first attended school. There are numerous out-buildings, gardens, lanes and distant river views. The landscape is beautifully preserved and fall colors should be evident by the paint out date. The mansion itself has a unique "H" shape which sets it apart from traditional river plantations.

The location is near the west end of Richmond and numerous restaurants and motels are nearby. However, there are no food facilities on site, so artists should bring lunch and drinks. Restrooms are readily available, and the site requires moderate walking ability. Handicap parking is available, but wheelchair travel on the paths would prove difficult. All sites are reasonably level. If artists require handicap parking, they should proceed to the parking lot nearest the house; otherwise, please park in the parking field to the right before you drive through the gates that face the house. From Charlottesville, Virginia: -Take I-64 east to Gaskins Road south. -Turn right onto Gaskins Rd. and continue straight to intersection of Gaskins Road and River Road. You will go through several intersections until you reach this one. -Turn right onto River Road and proceed 2.8 miles west until you notice Blair Road. -Take the next left after Blair Road. There is a small sign at this driveway and two white pillars. -The plantation lane will take you straight into Historic Tuckahoe Plantation. Park on the right in the large parking field. Those who need handicap parking should drive through the gates and bear right into the parking lot.

From Richmond, Virginia, take I-64 west to Gaskins Road South and follow the directions above.
