September 1997 Specimens representing 19 orders and 169 arthropod families (mostly insects) were collected from greenleaf manzanita brushfields in northeastern California and identified to species whenever possible. More than500 taxa below the family level wereinventoried, and each listing includes relative frequency of encounter, life stages collected, and dominant role in the greenleaf manzanita community. Specific host relationships are included for some predators and parasitoids. Herbivores, predators, and parasitoids comprised the majority (80 percent) of identified insects and related taxa. New Records of Pollinators and Other Insects Associated with Arizona Milkweed, Asclepias Angustifolia, at Four Sites in Southeastern Arizona

Behrstock Naturewide Images, 10359 S Thicket Place, Hereford, AZ 85615 U.S.A. Abstract—Asclepias angustifolia is a Mexican milkweed that barely enters the U.S.A. Its pollinators and other insect visitors have not been investigated. During 2018 and 2019, insect visitors were photographed at a native population and three gardens in and near the Huachuca Mountains, Southeastern Arizona. A total of 216 site visits produced at least 369 species of insects in seven orders. Images revealed 140 potential pollinators with a preponderance of Hymenoptera, Lepidoptera, and Diptera. Orders of insects are discussed, as are flowering phenology, potential pollinators in functional groups, introduced insects, and the value of A. angustifolia for monarch butterflies and other insects in pollinator gardens and in planting palettes created for restoration sites. Ils sont pourtant menacés par les pratiques agricoles qui s'intensifient. Pour établir un plan de conservation efficace, une meilleure connaissance des facteurs intrinsèques aux exploitations est essentielle. L’objectif principal de cette étude était de déterminer la diversité et abondance des abeilles et syrphes retrouvées en cannebergières. Quinze fermes ont été échantillonnées selon la régie de culture, le type de sol et le type d’habitat naturel retrouvé près des cannebergières. Des pièges-bols disposés en transect ainsi que l’utilisation de filet entomologique ont été utilisés pour échantillonner les pollinisateurs. Au total, 135 espèces de pollinisateurs indigènes ont été capturées en 2013 et 2014. Le type de sol ainsi que l’habitat naturel influençaient les communautés de pollinisateurs, alors que la régie de culture ne les affectait pas. L’abeille Melitta americana, spécialiste du pollen de canneberge, a été capturée plus souvent dans les tourbières. iii Abstract Cranberry flowers greatly benefit from insect pollination, increasing fruit production. Recently, there has been a growing interest in wild pollinators. The main objective of this study was to document the diversity and abundance of Hymenopteran and Dipteran pollinators found in cranberries grown in Quebec. A total of 15 farms were sampled. The Bipteraoi the Pacific coast are at present almost unknown. A few species picked up during the visit of the Swedish frigate Eugenia, probably in the environs of San Francisco, and described by Mr. Thom- " son ; some four dozen species, j)ublished by Mr. Loew in his Centurise "; a few other species, by Dr. Gerstaecker; and two lAmnobice, by me, con- stitute about all we know of Californian DijHera. Even Chili is, in this respect, much better explored, with the 556 species contained in Dr. Philippi's publication. In the present publication, I give a survey of the collection of Diptera which I formed during my recent western journey, and describe the most remarkable forms. The majority of the species described belong to California, where I collected the most ; the fauna of Colorado and of the vast intermediate region will come in the second line only, the materials being less abundant. However, the more I proceed with my study, the more I am impressed with the fact that the western fauna is essentially one, and that many of the characteristic forms of California sooner or later will turn up in Colorado. The times and places of my collecting in California are as follows : During the winter months (January to March, 1875), I collected a little in Southern California ; my most active collecting, however, was confined to the months of April and May, 1876, in Marin and Sonoma Counties; a few days in Yosemite Yalley in June; and a couple of weeks in the Sierra Nevada in July, especially about Webber Lake, Sierra County.
