Ihnen allen sei herzlich gedankt. __________________________________________________________________________________________ Klaus van de Weyer & Carsten Schmidt Makrophytenschlüssel Deutschland 6 _________________________________________________________________________________________ 1 Einführung in die bestimmungsrelevanten Merkmale der Gefäßpflanzen 1.1 Bestimmungsmerkmale Zum Bau der Pflanzen sei ausdrücklich auf ROTHMALER (2005) verwiesen. Die nachfolgenden Ausführungen sind hieran stark angelehnt. Since records began 1870, 27,3 % of the 453 species then present have been lost due to reduction in habitat and environment pollution. Of the 152 Red List Species included, 34,9 % have disappeared. However, some recovery of the Bryophyte Flora has occurred over the last 10 years, apparently reflecting recent im- provement in air pollution levels. Finally, the possible significance of the re-establishe- ment of rare species to environment quality assessment is discussed.

  • A Revised New Catalog of the Mosses of Japan Tadashi Suzuki
Hattoria 7: 9-223, 2016 A Revised New Catalog of the Mosses of Japan Tadashi Suzuki The Hattori Botanical Laboratory, Shimada Branch, 6480-3 Takasago-cho, Shimada-shi, Shizuoka- ken 427-0054, Japan Abstract. New catalog of the Mosses of Japan prepared by Dr. Zennoske Iwatsuki (2004) is revised. This revised catalog lists all names of genera and species of mosses described or reported from Japan, based on literature available to the author up to the end of January 2016. The catalog is now comprised of 1270 species of mosses belonging to 342 genera. These taxa are listed in alphabetical order. Each valid epithet is followed by author citation, literature, distributional area in Japan, and Japanese name. Introduction The New Catalog of the mosses of Japan was compiled by Iwatsuki (2004). Since then, many species of mosses were added to the Japanese moss flora. At the same time many species were reduced to synonymy. Moreover, nomenclatual changes have been made for many mosses recorded from Japan. Dr. Zennoske Iwatsuki had entrusted me with revision of this catalog. I decided to publish this revised catalog. Table 1 shows various lists of Japanese mosses published since 1929. During past 87 years, the number of moss genera reported from Japan has continuously increased from 228 genera (in 1929) to 342 genera (in 2016). This indicates that Japanese bryologists have added more genera to the Japanese moss flora, but at the same time, bryologists around the world have split also many genera of mosses. During the same period, taxonomical revision works were carried out by many Japanese bryologists, and subsequently, number of species of Japanese mosses were reduced due to synonymy.

  • Applying the Concept of Stewardship Responsibility in British Columbia
technical subcommittee component report Applying the Concept of Stewardship Responsibility in British Columbia PREPARED BY: FRED L. BUNNELL, L. KREMSATER AND I. HOUDE FOR: THE BIODIVERSITY BC TECHNICAL SUBCOMMITTEE FOR THE REPORT ON THE STATUS OF BIODIVERSITY IN BC DECEMBER 2006 Applying the Concept of Stewardship Responsibility in British Columbia By: Fred L. Bunnell L. Kremsater I. Houde Prepared for: The Biodiversity BC Technical Sub Committee For the Report on the Status on Biodiversity in BC December 2006 Summary Lists of species at risk are designed primarily to provide an easily understood estimate of risk and extinction. The lists have become linked to decision-making processes, often in unhelpful ways. Unhelpful guidance can be reduced through the concept of responsibility. The broad concept of stewardship responsibility is simple: within a jurisdiction we should allocate greater effort to conserve species for which we have a greater proportion of the global population or range (responsibility). That is, other things being equal, a species having 70% of its population or range within British Columbia should receive greater conservation effort than a species having 2% of its range within the province. The concept is widely applied in international conservation efforts and can be adapted readily to a particular jurisdiction. For most species, responsibility is estimated from the proportion of occupied range occurring within British Columbia. The task is simple but tedious because a variety of sources are required for the vast majority of species. Estimating responsibility for ecosystems confronts a major challenge: there is far less agreement on what is the same ecosystem than on what is the same species.
