What was the most recognizable initiative was the program of the construction of schools – Monu- ments of the Millennium of the Polish State. Despite numerous shortcomings of the program (it was commissioned by the authorities, financial contributions were mostly imposed, which ultimately did not bring the expected results), it was undoubtedly very useful. The celebration of the Millennium of the Polish State was also clearly reflected in the didactic and educational work of schools. The programs and handbooks described the millennium of the history of the Polish nation and state, reducing or omitting the participation of the Church. The same objective was fulfilled by additional youth work, which supplemented the content of curricu- lum. In the context of anti-church politics, a lot of effort was put into the proper preparation of teachers, especially young educators, to popularize the millennium in a non-religious spirit. The range of extracurricular activities was the most extensive. Undoubtedly, they had a pos- itive influence on shaping the historical awareness of the young generation.

(…) I dream of a form of socialist life that will abolish the un- bearable and destructive state of affairs, where the authori- ties see cultural creations and their reception as a constant threat requiring the use of force. Leszek Kołakowski1 Using ancient drama as a vehicle for propaganda or as a weapon in the ideo- logical struggle is neither simple nor predictably successful. I argue that although the backgrounds of the two countries were different, certain factors occasionally resulted in similar pogroms in approximately the same time. During the thesis I analyze these factors in the context of the Kraków and Kielce pogroms in Poland, and the Kunmadaras pogrom and the Miskolc riots in Hungary.

Czy archiwaliów pozwalających badać historię kościo- łów różnych wyznań należy szukać także w archiwach państwowych? Na to pytanie twierdząco autor odpowiedział już dwukrotnie2. Niniejszy artykuł jest natomiast próbą pochylenia się nad materiałami archiwalnymi znajdującymi się w zasobie Archiwum Państwowego w Kielcach i stanowiącymi źródła do badań nad dziejami Kościoła kato- lickiego na terenie Kielc. Zamierzeniem autora jest ich prezentacja, usystematyzowanie i omówienie. Jeśli chodzi o ramy chronologiczne artykułu, to wyznaczają je początek XIX w. i rok 1989. Podstawą publikacji stała się wnikliwa i długotrwała kwerenda w ponad 80 zespo- łach archiwalnych wchodzących w skład zasobu Archiwum Państwowego w Kielcach. Pierwszy etap poszukiwań objął pomoce archiwalne: inwentarze, spisy zdawczo-odbior- cze oraz indeksy poszczególnych zespołów archiwalnych, a także elektroniczne bazy danych. Dalszą kwerendę prowadzono już w konkretnych jednostkach archiwalnych. Okres niewoli narodowej Najstarsze archiwalia dotyczące Kościoła katolickiego na terenie Kielc znajdują się w zespole Rząd Gubernialny Radomski. Znakomita większość z nich dotyczy majątku duchowieństwa (często są to tzw. spisy tabelaryczne majątku duchownego) poszczegól- nych świątyń i instytucji kościelnych: kościoła i klasztoru oo.
