    2013 INDUCTEES TEAM JACOBS - ATHLETES The sport of curling in Canada - the game of strategy, tactics and skill has been catapulted into the spotlight by our own home- grown curling team. This sport has a few nicknames such as “Chess on Ice”. In 2013 Team Jacobs has managed to change the image and culture of the sport by showcasing their high level of athleticism, skill and sportsmanship. Perhaps a more modern nickname for the sport of curling because of Team Jacobs should be “Power” - “Chess on Ice”. Brad Jacobs, Ryan Fry, E. J. Harnden and Ryan Harnden exemplify the spirit of curling through their game strategy - aggressively or defensively, good sportsmanship, precision and accuracy. Their focus on strength of body and mind is inspiring and brings forward a new level of respect, competitiveness and interest in the sport of curling. This team, hailing from the Soo Curlers Association, has had major accomplishments and successes that must be mentioned to include: 2013 Tim Hortons Brier Champions - Canadian Men's Curling Championship. Harnden, took a moment to consider his team’s potential: “We’re not ever going to stop, we’re not ever going to hold back and just rest on the success that we have.” Formed in 2012, the young team – including Ryan Harnden (lead), E.J. Harnden (second), Ryan Fry (third) and skip Brad Jacobs – looks like they’ll be able to back up that promise through a commitment to each other, and to fitness. They saved the best for last as the final playoff positions were determined during a wild night of excitement during the last round- robin draw Friday at the Tim Hor- tons Brier, presented by Monsanto. The final piece of the puzzle fell into place when Manitoba’s Jeff Stoughton delivered a last-rock draw to the button for a 6-5 extra end victory over B.C.’s Andrew Bilesky, who was playing for noth- ing but pride. Alberta skip Kevin Martin could only watch his playoff hopes dis- appear as Stoughton celebrated the victory. Martin used a last-rock draw of his own for a 6-5 win that handed Ontario’s Glenn Howard his first loss. But Martin couldn’t overcome a horrible start to the week and won’t have a chance to win a record fifth Brier. “That was the most exciting evening I have ever been involved in curling,” said Howard, who fin- ished first with a 10-1 record. “I thoroughly enjoyed that evening.” Howard will now play Stoughton (8-3) in Saturday afternoon’s 1-2 game.

After a dominant win over Great Britain to win Olympic gold, Team Jacobs’ second, E.J. Harnden, took a moment to consider his team’s potential: “We’re not ever going to stop, we’re not ever going to hold back and just rest on the success that we have.” Formed in 2012, the young team – including Ryan Harnden (lead), E.J. Harnden (second), Ryan Fry (third) and skip Brad Jacobs – looks like they’ll be able to back up that promise through a commitment to each other, and to fitness. As Brier Champions in 2013, Olympic gold medalists in Sochi 2014 and the Player’s Champions in 2015, Team Jacobs have enjoyed immediate success and have focused their attention on capturing a World Championship title and a return to the Olympics in Pyeongchang 2018. The Team's Olympic experience and its grueling schedule also confirmed the importance of training to stay on top of the demands of a longer competition season. Often called the “fitness freaks” of curling, the Team take pride in representing a distinctly different image from many of the curlers of years past.
