English Language Education Study Program, Department of Language and Arts Education, Faculty of Teachers Training and Education, Yogyakarta: Sanata Dharma University. Intimacy exists in human relationship. It happens between two individuals or more. However, intimacy is feared by some people. In literary works, fear of intimacy can be experienced by the character. This study discusses the fear of intimacy on Lisbeth Salander from a novel entitled The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, written by Stieg Larsson. Lisbeth Salander, a pale, very skinny young woman who experts in internet hack culture but awkward in common social situation, is involved in a mystery disclosure. Salander traumatic experiences with other people result in her rejection towards relationship and human intimacy. The problem formulation is “How does Salander overcome her fear of intimacy?”. The objective of the study is to describe how Salander overcome her fear of intimacy using MacAdams’ theory. -

Harvill Secker's surprising centenary Liiz Thomson Opiiniion - Publliishiing Wednesday, 30th September 2009 From January to December 2010, 'Random House imprint Harvill Secker will be celebrating a centenary of publishing. Harvill Secker has published some of the most iconic and inspiring literary works of the last 100 years, bringing international writing from exceptional writers to the attention of British book buyers.' The quality of the Harvill Secker list is indeed impressive - but Harvill Secker is not 100 years old. In 2010 it will be six. Nor, strictly speaking, is Secker & Warburg, which was born in 1936 as a result of the takeover by Frederic Warburg of Martin Secker, which had gone bust. But those two companies are now forever linked by an ampersand. Harvill Press was founded in 1946, by Manya Harari and Marjorie Villiers, BBC broadcasters who sought to build cultural bridges with Europe after the war. It follows Reviews for Theatre, Dance, Music and Film, while Reviews for Visual Arts, Creative Learning and Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion will also be published this year. Once complete, the Sector Reviews will form the basis from which we will develop a broader Arts Strategy, a strategy that will sit alongside those for Screen, Creative Industries and International, all of which underpin the delivery of Creative Scotland’s 10 Year Plan, Unlocking Potential, Embracing Ambition. The Arts Strategy will provide a national overview of the arts in contemporary Scotland - highlighting opportunities, challenges, connections and the role of the arts in society. Publishing Against the Grain
Sixth NLPVF International Non-Fiction Conference, 2006 Publishing Against the Grain Friday morning: Commercial pressure: anathema to good publishing or essential to it? Maarten Valken – Welcome to the Rode Hoed, as this building is called, the red hat. It started out as a hatter’s shop. In the seventeenth century it became a Remonstrant church, although services were officially forbidden at that time, so it became a clandestine church. It remained a Remonstrant church until 1957, the oldest and biggest one in The Netherlands, and since 1990 it has become a debating centre. This conference is already the sixth one since we started nine years ago. We were and still are able to organise them thanks to the financial help of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. These conferences have become a unique place to meet, to have longer contacts, especially for publishers who have less and less time to talk to each other personally, but also between publishers and translators, and of course for the Dutch authors to get in touch with both of them. The last conferences we started to send around a survey. It was first meant as a source of ideas, but it also turned out to be a very interesting document for the discussions, and we will probably use them later. In the other room as you might have seen there are Dutch books by the authors who are here: Minka Nijhuis who is sitting here, Marjon van Royen, and Jutta Chorus who is joining us later, she will talk tomorrow. -

We thank all those publishers who are presenting an incredibly wide range of novels, drama, children’s literature, genre fiction, short stories, comics, mangas, graphic novels, essays… suitable for cinema and audiovisual adaptations.
