Running backs Guy Dempsey (above left) and David Bradford (above right) both had exceptional records this season. Both Dempsey and Bradford broke the 1000 yard rushing mark. This hasn't been accomplished since Sam McGuire in the 1987-1988 season. Guy Demp sey rushed for 1057 yards in 145 carries, while David Bradford gained 1062 yards on 137 carries. Dempsey scored 10 touchdowns during the season and Bradford scored 12. These two outstanding backs have been successful throughout their high school careers and we wish them luck in the future.

All work and no play made the school day long but we knew how to break the day- to-day routine. From playing trivia games and snacking, to doing experiments and trying cases, the types of fun found in the classroom varied from course to course, but they all taught a valuable lesson. Band Banquet 50’s Day Rock & Roll Heaven! To promote this year's musical, "Grease", many East students and faculty participated in the 50's day. They wore poodle skirts, leather jackets, and "greased" back hair. A dance was also held in the 5Q's spirit for students from East and area high schools with a best cos tume contest. The dance was a fund raiser for the music de partment. It was a great suc cess and a lot of fun.

Aaron Wolfe “The Banjo Man” There is a great deal of talent at East. One prime example is Aaron Wolfe. Aaron competed in the Coalton County Jubilee Talent Contest by playing his banjo. He showcased his skill by performing "Foggy Moun tain Breakdown", "Dueling Banjos" and "Cripple Creek". Aaron won first place! His prizes were $ 300.00, a t-shirt and a two-night stay at Shaw nee Lodge. Way to go, Aaron! Thanks for waking up the halls at East with your pickin' and grinnin'!

MiniMag The East Madrigals had a very difficult year at the start with the departure of their director Miss Kathy Jenkins. They hosted the annual Portsmouth East Show Choir Festival, competed in the Tri-State Show Choir Competition and performed for over twenty organizations during the Christmas season with only the help of Mrs. Arms, a substitute. Fortunately the Madrigals returned from Christmas va cation to find Miss Tami King, their new director, anxiously waiting to "get to work". The Madrigals have learned that "Whatever it takes", they can overcome all obstacles. There were thirty singers and dancers, five managers and five in strumentalists in the group.

135 As our senior year began, there were mixed emotions about graduation. Some of us couldn't stand the thought of leaving, while others couldn't wait to get away. Our "Whatever It Takes" theme started out as a focus for our football team, but now represents much more than that. As the year went quickly by, many special events began to symbolize our year as seniors at Portsmouth East High School. Our football team reached legendary status by winning the S.O.C., and becoming the first Tartan team to attend a state play-off game. But that was only the beginning! The Quizbowl team and basketball team continued the Tartan S.O.C. winning streak, followed by a very successful baseball season. Each and every student who wished to represent our school put his or her best effort into a certain field, and regardless of the hard work and practice necessary, did "whatever it takes" to succeed. Adamj, Jer The months went by and we began to realize how close we had all become. Our class is a very special one who has seen Adkins, Joi A gw, Ronr both glorious and tramatic times. This year, our class of '92 was faced with the decision of having graduation at Shawnee Allard. Apt State University or having it at East. With the help of the Junior class, we insured that graduation will be held at East Arthur. Bil until at least 1993. Arthur. Mo Artis. Mike Despite stricter rule enforcement and adapting to new teachers and a new principal, we made this another successful year. Some people never experience the kind of friendship and love that we have here at East, and because of the wonderful \ memories, we feel privileged to call ourselves 1992 graduates of Portsmouth East High School.
