Knight School : # 11 Tyler Hoffmeister (6-6/200) -- The Texas Tech junior from The Woodlands, TX (The Woodlands HS) was selected by theTexas Tech coaching staff as the individual from among 150-hopefuls for the opportunity to walk-on this seaon with the Red Raiders. ESPN’s very successful six-episode reality-based series premiered Sunday, February 19, 2006. Filmed and produced by RIVR Media (Knoxville, TN) scored an average of 850,000 viewers per episode... the final episode was the most watched with about one million viewers. Tyler played and scored at home against UALR on November 14. He was 1-for-1.

A Packed Roster: 17 Red Raiders are featured on this year’s roster. Trevor Cook (Coppell, TX) played his freshman season at Texas State and transferred to Texas Tech this academic year. As a transfer, he will have three seasons to play after sitting out the 2006-2007 season. Rogdrick Craig (Portola Valley, CA) played last season at San Jose City College (CA) and came to Texas Tech this season. He will be sidelined for the next several months for medical reasons. Esmir Rizvic (Zenica, Bosnia) had successful surgery to repair damage to his right orbital eye area and will be sidelined for an indefiinite period.

Pete Newell Challenge: Hall of Fame Coach Bob Knight, who started the 2006-2007 season needing just 11 victories to break Dean Smith’s record as the winningest coach in college basketball history, has been chosen to receive the 2006 Challenge Career Achievement Award, for significant contributions to the game of basketball. Coach Knight will accept the award from Pete Newell prior to the start of the Texas Tech-Stanford game, the first game of the 2006 Pete Newell Challenge, which is set for Sunday, December 3, at 5:30 PM (CT), at the HP Pavilion in San Jose. In the second game of the 10th-anniversary doubleheader, Nevada, ranked No. 24 in the Associated Press preseason poll, meets Cal.

CBE Classic: The College Basketball Experience Classic (CBE Classic) featured 16-teams at four regional sites with the semi-finals and finals played in Kansas City. Texas Tech hosted Gardner-Webb, UALR, and Akron on November 13 and 14. UALR and Akron tipped at 6 PM with Texas Tech facing Gardner-Webb at 9 PM on Monday, November 13. On Tuesday, the Regional Consolation begins at 6 PM with the Regional Championship at 9 PM on ESPN 2. Monday’s game against Gardner-Webb was on ESPNU. The regional winners from Durham and Palo Alto will play on Monday (Nov. 20) at 6 PM (CT) with the Milwaukee and Lubbock winners meeting at 8:30 PM. The championship doubleheader begins the following day (Nov. 21) with the Consolation Game at 7 PM (CT) followed by the Championship Game at 9 PM. The CBE Classic is produced by the Gazelle Group.

New Signees: The Texas Tech men’s basketball program has signed six players to National Letters of Intent. Five of the newly signed Red Raiders will enter Texas Tech as freshmen and all are from the Lone Star State. These five Texans will be joined by a junior college player from Sao Paulo, Brazil. The two most recent signees are A. J. Hardeman and Darryl Ashford. A. J. (6-8, 185) forward from Del Valle HS said he wanted to play at Texas Tech as soon as Bob Knight was announced as the Red Raider coach in 2001. He made the All-Region Team and was named to the first-team All-Central Texas as a junior. Darryl (6-4, 175), a Cypress Falls HS grad, is currently enrolled at New Hampton Prep (NH). He averaged 16.2 ppg and 9.2 rpg as a senior enroute to earning All- Region honors and was First Team All-District. Plano guard, John Roberson (5-11, 165) averaged 17.1 points per game and 7.2 assists per game as a junior. Last season, Plano won the Class 5A State Championship in overtime (60-58) as Roberson finished with 24 points and five rebounds. Kingwood’s Mike Singletary scored 12 points and had 5 rebounds against Roberson’s team in last year’s state championship game. At 6-5 and 215, Singletary was the second Red Raider to ink his National Letter of Intent in the early signing period with Coach Knight. D’Walyn Roberts is the third member of the Texas trio in the early signing period to become a Red Raider. Roberts (6-8, 186) averaged 13.9 points and 9 rebounds per game for Duncanville last season. In addition to being new Red Raiders and teammates, all fourof the current high school seniors -- incoming freshmen for the Red Raiders -- are very highly rated among the best players in the state. Mike Singletary is considered the No. 5 player in Texas, John Roberson is rated as the No. 6 player in the state, D’Walyn Roberts is listed as the No. 11 player in Texas, and A. J. Hardeman is listed as the 21st. best in the Lone Star State. Joining the incoming five freshmen is Sao Paulo, Brazil’s Ricardo De Bem, a 6-10, 240-pound player at Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He averaged 11.9 points and eight rebounds as a WNCC freshman. FOR THE NEBRASKA GAME Sam Houston State: Texas Tech now leads the series 6-1. Jay Jackson was the leading scorer for both teams with 27 points. Martin Zeno scored 19 points with Charlie Burgess adding 13 points in the opening game of the season for the Red Raiders. Texas Tech erased a 2-point halftime deficit to outscore the Bearkats in the second half (52-35) to post a 79-64 win at hom.

Gardner-Webb was the opening round match-up forTexas Tech in the Lubbock Regional of the CBE Classic. The Red Raiders never trailed as they topped GWU 86-74. Four Red Raiders reached double-figures for the game: Jackson-22, Zeno-19, Rizvic-17, and Burgess-13. UALR edged Akron (81-79) in the opening game of the evening.

UALR and Texas Tech met on Tuesday evening for the CBE Classic Lubbock Regional Championship. The Raiders held a 52-24 lead at the half and had 1 turnover in the first 30 minutes of the game. Sixteen Tech players played in the game; a 93-59 win for TT. Jay Jackson led all scorers with 21 points. Darryl Dora had a strong performance with 17 points and 6 . Martin Zeno added 13 points. Tyler “Knight School” Hoffmeister played 4 minutes and scored on his only FG attempt. Jay Jackson was named the MVP for the series in Lubbock. Akron defeated Gardner-Webb 89-61 in the consolation game.

Against NDSU: This was the first meeting between the two teams and the first meeting between the two coaches. The Red Raiders held a 43-34 margin at the half. NDSU had a one-point lead at 11:51 of the second half until Texas Tech pushed the lead to ten points with 5:32 remaining. NDSU got within 2-points in the waning seconds of the game until Jay Jackson made two free throws to preserve a TT win. Jay led all scorers with 26 points. Martin Zeno scored 20 points, had 6 assists and 3 steals. Charlie Burgess dropped in 13 points. Esmir Rivzic added 10 points.

Turnovers: Texas Tech’s 6 turnovers against UALR are the fewest since the Red Raiders had 4 turnovers against Missouri on March 3, 2004. The Raiders won 87-76. Andre Emmett was the leading scorer with 28 points. Freshman Jarrius Jackson had 19 points.

Raining Threes: Tech’s 12 three-pointers against UALR are the most for the Red Raiders since the 2004-2005 season when they poured in 16 three-pointers against UNC Asheville on November 19, 2004. Tech grad, Curtis Marshall made five of his six 3-pt. attempts in the game enroute to his career-best 30 point performance. Eight Red Raiders scored at least 10 points in the game.

“Knight School”: With his teammates cheering him on, Tyler Hoffmeister (#11) scored at the 00:29 mark of the second half against UALR. Tyler played four minutes and was 1-for-1 in the game. He earned the opportunity for a walk-on spot with the Red Raiders as the winner of ESPN’s six-episode reality based series “Knight School” filmed last Sept/Oct on the Texas Tech campus and around the Lubbock community.

CBE Classic in Kansas City: Semi-final Game: The Texas Tech Red Raiders met the #16-ranked in the second game of the evening in an 8:30 PM (CT) tip-off. Duke (#11) faced Air Force in the opening game at 6 PM. To get to KC ... Texas Tech (4-0) defeated Gardner-Webb, 86-74 and UALR, 93-59. Marquette (4-0) defeated State, 59-56 (o/t) and Detroit, 87-45. Coach Clair Bee Award: Three of the coaches in the semi-finals of the CBE Classic are winners of The Coach Clair Bee Award which honors the active Division I men’s basketball coach who has made the most significant positive contribution to his sport during the preceding year. The winners reflect the character and professional qualities of Clair Bee, a Hall of Fame coach whom many consider the best technical basketball coach in history and a man who cared deeply about his players’ well being. Coach Clair F. Bee, the late Long Island University coach and Hall of Famer, compiled an .826 lifetime winning percentage, still the best in major-college coaching history. For the CBE Classic in Kansas City : Texas Tech featured three players averaging double-figures: Jarrius Jackson (24.0), Martin Zeno (17.8), and Charlie Burgess (12.0). Marquette (#16) also featured three players in double- figures: Dominic James (16.8), Jerel McNeal (12.0), and (10.8). Texas Tech and Marquette met for the first time on November 20, 2006. Marquette carved out a 15-point at the half (46-31) as the two teams each scored 41-points in the second half to give the Golden Eagles an 87-72 win in the second semi-final game of the night. Duke (#11) downed AirForce in the first game -- 71-56. Turnovers: Texas Tech committed 18 turnovers against the Golden Eagels -- the most this season. (Marquette had 19 turnovers) Benny Valentine (TT): was the leading scorer for the Red Raiders with 17 points -- with 15 of them coming in the second half. This was the first game in the 2006-2007 season in which Jarrius Jackson was not the team’s leading scorer. Jay scored 14 points for the evening.

Bill Russell and Bob Knight: Red Raider coach Bob Knight was presenter for at Sunday evening’s induction ceremony for the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. Dr. , Dean Smith, Bill Russell, , and were honored.

Texas Tech and Air Force: Tech now holds a 7-2 margin overAir Force after the Falcons downed the Raiders 67-53 in the Consolation Game. Jarrius Jackson led all scorers with 20 points. Jay was the only Red Raider to score in double-digits. With the teams tied (33-33) at the half, the Raiders shot 6-for-22 in the second half (.273) and were held to a season low of 20 points.

Texas Tech: Has featured three different starting line-ups over their first eight games. Charlie Burgess and Jarrius Jackson have started each game for the Red Raiders. All sixteen players on Tech’s roster have played at least one game through the first eight games.

At UTEP: After their 94-77 win in El Paso on 11/25, Tech now holds a 34-13 margin over UTEP since the series began on January 9, 1931. All sixteen players on the active roster played against Centenary. Jarrius Jackson led all Tech scorers against Centenary with 25 points while playing 24 minutes. Tech has a 23-11 margin when the teams have played in Lubbock. Arkansas has a 23-12 margain in Fayetteville while the Red Raiders have a 5-3 edge on neutral courts. 880 Wins: Bob Knight is now the winningest coach in NCAA men’s basketball history with Texas Tech’s 70-68 win over New Mexico on New Year’s Day at the United Spirit Arena. The festivites began with the playing of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way.” The post-game ceremony featured Chancellor Kent Hance, President Jon Whitmore, Big 12 Associate Commissioner John Underwood, Athletic Director Gerald Myers, quotes from former players (, Randy Wittman, and Mike Woodson), plus video messages from Jim Haney (NABC), (Texas), Mike Krzyzweski (Duke), Dick Vitale (ESPN), and Dean Smith (UNC). Jarrius Jackson and Martin Zeno spoke on behalf of their history-making 2006-2007 teammates. A new banner marking Coach Knight’s 880th win was unfurled to the sold-out USA crowd. Confetti cannons added red and black atmosphere to the arena on two occasions. The celebration closed with Coach Knight at the microphone as “My Way” continued playing. Bob Knight’s complete post-game press conference was made available via sateliite by Texas Tech.

Red Raiders in Manhattan, KS: The Red Raiders and the Wildcats began their series on December 6, 1955. After twenty-one meetings, Texas Tech now leads the series, 11-10 after their 62-52 win in Manhattan on 01/08/07. Texas Tech has now won the five previous meetings.On their last trip to Manhattan (01/12/05), the Texas Tech traveling party was grounded enroute due to inclement weather, rented vans to reach their destination, and had their pre-game meal at the Golden Corral. After a 10-minute delay, the game got underway with KSU holding a four-point halftime lead (42-38). In the second half the teams were tied for the sixth time at 76 points with 41 seconds on the clock. Tech’s Curtis Marshall hit a three-pointer with two seconds on the clock to give the Red Raiders a 79-76 win. Last season, Texas Tech won at home (70-56) and in the opening round of the Big 12 Championship (73-65). In the most recent game at KSU, the Red Raiders held a 27-26 halftime lead and outpaced the Wildcats 35-26 in the second half. Jarrius Jackson (TT) and David Hoskins (KSU) each scored 23 points. Texas Tech in Waco, TX: The series between Texas Tech and Baylor began on January 2, 1937. After the 73-70 loss to Baylor on Saturday, the Red Raiders now hold a 72-41 margin in the series. Gerald Myers: A banner honoring Gerald Myers as a Texas Tech student-athlete, coach, and administrator now adorns the United Spirit Arena. The Borger, Texas native earned three letters as a basketball player, is the winningest basketball coach in Red Raider history, and became Athletic Director on February 17, 1997. Coach Myers joins (his former coach) and broadcaster Jack Dale to be honored for their many contributions to Texas Tech.
