Anwar downplays hudud row in Pakatan MalaysiaKini.com May 1, 2014 PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has downplayed the latest round of wrangling between PAS and DAP over the hudud issue. He told Malaysiakini that the two parties have their differences over the issue for some time, but remain on the same page when it comes to issues of governance. “So I think let them continue having this engagement and discussion. We have had a long session yesterday (Tuesday) on this issue,” he said yesterday. He added that the discussion among the three parties in the opposition coalition was cordial despite disagreements. Anwar was responding to a question whether Pakatan Rakyat is in danger of falling apart with the latest dustup over hudud, which includes punishments such as amputations for theft and stoning for adultery. Early last month, Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yaakob said PAS is prepared to table a private member’s bill with the necessary amendments to allow the state to implement its Syariah Criminal Code II Enactment 1993. The enactment has been in place since the 1990s, but could not be implemented under existing federal laws. Since mooting the private member’s bill in Parliament, DAP leaders have vocally opposed the idea and vowed to vote against it. In the latest of these disagreements, DAP acting chairperson Tan Kok Wai warned PAS that it has no place in the Pakatan coalition if the party is adamant in pushing for the controversial law. When asked on how PKR would vote on the bill, Anwar replied, “The issue of how it will be tabled, (and) when it will be tabled, has not been resolved. “Let us resolve that first.” Copyright © 1999-2012 Mkini Dotcom Sdn. The Chinese community and rally organiser should also receive an apology, Tan said, because Wee had diverted the focus of the rally. Wee, who is also MCA Youth chief, had claimed that he was almost punched during the rally organised by Dong Zong to protest the shortage of teachers in Chinese schools. Wee, however, has 'forgiven' the alleged assailant and has refused to lodge a police report. This has caused a furore on the Internet, with netizens accusing Wee of imagining the incident. Selangor police chief Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah and the rally organisers have since denied that anyone had been assaulted. Tan said Wee must also apologise to Pakatan Rakyat for levelling the innuendo that the purported assailant was a member of the opposition pact. “Wee said he was attacked, when he was surrounded by police who formed a defence wall. Here, at least 75,000 people were forced to leave their homes during this past year alone, and more than half a million people remain internally displaced. TBBC has described the situation in Burma as being comparable to the situation in Darfur. Furthermore, these crimes against humanity in Burma are well documented by various UN bodies, although none of them have taken effective action.

Wan Azizah agrees to file no-confidence motion MalaysiaKini.com Oct 19 th , 2015 Kow Gah Chie PARLIAMENT Opposition Leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has now agreed to lead the charge on filing a motion for a vote of no-confidence against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak. The PKR president announced this after Pakatan Harapan's inaugural presidential council meeting in Parliament today. "We will follow standing order 26, which is to give 14-day notice," she told reporters. "The rationale is that we have to save our country, the people want us to act," she said. She added that the motion has to be drafted in a form acceptable to the house. Initially, the motion was filed by PKR lawmaker Hee Loy Sian but DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng wanted it revoked. Given that it concerns an issue of paramount importance, Lim wanted Wan Azizah to file the motion instead, indicating that DAP lawmakers might not support it otherwise. Meanwhile, Wan Azizah said Hee would retract his motion. She added that a consensus of the coalition was needed before a motion could be tabled. Also present were DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, veteran Lim Kit Siang, acting national chairman Tan Kok Wai, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli. Meanwhile, the first meeting of the opposition pact could only take place when all the top leaders are present, said Rafizi. "If we were to file the motion without the consensus of the two allies (DAP and Amanah), this would not look good as this would be seen as PKR's motion," said Rafizi, who is also Pandan MP.

Leading the pack is Liew Chin Tong (1,438 votes), Lim Kit Siang (1,436) and Karpal Singh (1,421) while Boo Cheng Hau (961), Nga Kor Ming (956) and Ngeh Khoo Ham (809) received the least amount of votes among those elected. Zairil Khir Johari, whose appointment to the CEC was in dispute during the December polls, came in 12th with 1,132 votes. The closest any other Malay candidate came to winning a seat was Ariffin SM Omar (441), Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji (441) and Ahmad Ton (351). According to the returning officer Ong Kian Ming, a total of 1,725 ballots papers were casted today, of which 1,663 were valid and 62 were spoilt. Polling began this morning and the results were announced at 8pm. In comparison, the last party polls saw 1,826 ballots cast, of which 58 were spoilt. Ong said that the results were verified by an independent audit company and should not be challenged. The list of elected CEC members are as follows: 1.
