'Attack' Claim Malaysiakini.Com March 27, 2012 by S Pathmawathy The DAP wants Wee to apologise for 'attack' claim MalaysiaKini.com March 27, 2012 By S Pathmawathy The DAP is going after Deputy Education Minister Wee Ka Siong for an apology to the public and the Chinese community, for misleading them into believing he had been attacked at a rally in Kajang on Sunday. NONE“Wee should apologise to the rakyat for misleading us with his story,” said Tan Kok Wai (left), the Cheras MP. The Chinese community and rally organiser should also receive an apology, Tan said, because Wee had diverted the focus of the rally. Wee, who is also MCA Youth chief, had claimed that he was almost punched during the rally organised by Dong Zong to protest the shortage of teachers in Chinese schools. Wee, however, has 'forgiven' the alleged assailant and has refused to lodge a police report. This has caused a furore on the Internet, with netizens accusing Wee of imagining the incident. Selangor police chief Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah and the rally organisers have since denied that anyone had been assaulted. Tan said Wee must also apologise to Pakatan Rakyat for levelling the innuendo that the purported assailant was a member of the opposition pact. “Wee said he was attacked, when he was surrounded by police who formed a defence wall. If Wee was assaulted, the organisers would have been blamed for lax security,” said Tan. “How can he make such biased, unfounded and vicious remarks?” 'Sign of guilty conscience' DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said Wee’s hesitation in making a complaint to the police indicated that he had a “guilty conscience about the baseless allegation”. NONEOn a separate issue, Lim (centre in photo) demanded that MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek should “furnish evidence” to show that Pakatan, like BN, is "corrupt". Referring to a report in Chinese newspaper Sin Chew Daily, Lim said that Chua was quoted as saying ‘BN dan PR sama-sama rasuah’ (BN and Pakatan are both corrupt). “We agree with the first mention, (BN) is corrupt, but I want Chua to show proof that Pakatan is the same,” added Lim. • Anwar Downplays Hudud Row in Pakatan Malaysiakini.Com May 1, 2014
Anwar downplays hudud row in Pakatan MalaysiaKini.com May 1, 2014 PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has downplayed the latest round of wrangling between PAS and DAP over the hudud issue. He told Malaysiakini that the two parties have their differences over the issue for some time, but remain on the same page when it comes to issues of governance. “So I think let them continue having this engagement and discussion. We have had a long session yesterday (Tuesday) on this issue,” he said yesterday. He added that the discussion among the three parties in the opposition coalition was cordial despite disagreements. Anwar was responding to a question whether Pakatan Rakyat is in danger of falling apart with the latest dustup over hudud, which includes punishments such as amputations for theft and stoning for adultery. Early last month, Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yaakob said PAS is prepared to table a private member’s bill with the necessary amendments to allow the state to implement its Syariah Criminal Code II Enactment 1993. The enactment has been in place since the 1990s, but could not be implemented under existing federal laws. Since mooting the private member’s bill in Parliament, DAP leaders have vocally opposed the idea and vowed to vote against it. In the latest of these disagreements, DAP acting chairperson Tan Kok Wai warned PAS that it has no place in the Pakatan coalition if the party is adamant in pushing for the controversial law. When asked on how PKR would vote on the bill, Anwar replied, “The issue of how it will be tabled, (and) when it will be tabled, has not been resolved.

February 11, 2016 The Honorable Mr. Barack Obama President of the United States of America The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20500 Dear Mr. President, As members of parliament from Southeast Asia, dedicated to the promotion and protection of human rights, we write to express our desire for you to make discussion of human rights and the democratic aspirations of the people of ASEAN a priority during the upcoming summit at the Sunnylands estate in California on 15-16 February 2016. As you are surely aware, democracy is struggling in Southeast Asia. Many countries in our region have taken dramatic steps backward in the past two years. While Southeast Asia appeared to be on the cusp of a genuine political transformation only a few years ago, more recently the region has instead witnessed military takeovers, the rollback of fundamental rights, intensifying government-sponsored discrimination against ethnic and religious minorities, and the increasing persecution of activists and opposition voices, including fellow parliamentarians. These setbacks constitute a fundamental threat to the future of the ASEAN Community and the US relationship with it. While we recognize and understand your administration’s desire to strengthen trade and security cooperation with Southeast Asian governments, we urge you to proceed with caution. Human rights, democracy, and basic dignity cannot take a backseat to economic or security prerogatives. Open dialogue on fundamental political and rights-based questions is vital to ensuring the sustainability of bilateral relationships and promoting broad-based benefits of trans-Pacific cooperation. When you sit down with ASEAN leaders in California, we urge you to press them on unfulfilled human rights commitments and to directly raise specific concerns with them.

ABSTRACT: The application of Geographic Information System (GIS) and election is a study that stresses geospatial aspects which gives support to election boundaries, election information management system along with GIS analysis in election boundaries. This article, as a concept, explains the role and function of GIS and geopolitics as an introduction to examine the election pattern in Malaysia. This study was aimed at understanding the issue that influenced youth voters in DUN Nusajaya to cast their votes in General Election, thus charting new strategies for future election. In doing so, nine issues are carefully selected and analysed from a geographical perspective by using GIS method. Socio-demographic data, issues influenced and assessment of state political figure, are used to explore geographic variability in relationships between each variable at a detailed spatial level. Such action is long overdue. Burma’s military regime has carried out brutal attacks on its own people for decades. According to the Thailand Burma Border Consortium (TBBC), a humanitarian agency providing aid to Burmese refugees and displaced persons for 25 years, through these attacks, the regime has destroyed over 3,500 ethnic minority villages in eastern Burma since 1996. Here, at least 75,000 people were forced to leave their homes during this past year alone, and more than half a million people remain internally displaced. TBBC has described the situation in Burma as being comparable to the situation in Darfur. Furthermore, these crimes against humanity in Burma are well documented by various UN bodies, although none of them have taken effective action.

  • Wan Azizah Agrees to File No-Confidence Motion Malaysiakini.Com Oct 19 Th , 2015 Kow Gah Chie
Wan Azizah agrees to file no-confidence motion MalaysiaKini.com Oct 19 th , 2015 Kow Gah Chie PARLIAMENT Opposition Leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has now agreed to lead the charge on filing a motion for a vote of no-confidence against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak. The PKR president announced this after Pakatan Harapan's inaugural presidential council meeting in Parliament today. "We will follow standing order 26, which is to give 14-day notice," she told reporters. "The rationale is that we have to save our country, the people want us to act," she said. She added that the motion has to be drafted in a form acceptable to the house. Initially, the motion was filed by PKR lawmaker Hee Loy Sian but DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng wanted it revoked. Given that it concerns an issue of paramount importance, Lim wanted Wan Azizah to file the motion instead, indicating that DAP lawmakers might not support it otherwise. Meanwhile, Wan Azizah said Hee would retract his motion. She added that a consensus of the coalition was needed before a motion could be tabled. Also present were DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, veteran Lim Kit Siang, acting national chairman Tan Kok Wai, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli. Meanwhile, the first meeting of the opposition pact could only take place when all the top leaders are present, said Rafizi. "If we were to file the motion without the consensus of the two allies (DAP and Amanah), this would not look good as this would be seen as PKR's motion," said Rafizi, who is also Pandan MP.
