The Feast of St Ignatius This Sunday we celebrate the feast of St Ignatius. Because our is a Jesuit parish we celebrate the feast instead of the Sunday Mass

READINGS FOR THE FEAST You will receive the special readings separately. It is a good idea to read them and give some thought to them beforehand. Here are some questions to ponder.

First Reading [Deuteronomy 30.11-14] “The touch of God is in your heart for your observation.” Can I observe where God touches me in my life? Second Reading [Ephesians 1.3-10] Before the world was made even, God chose us. How do I respond to God choosing me? Talk to the Lord about it. [John 1.35-39] If asks you "What do you want?" how would you answer?

OUR PARISH IS A JESUIT PARISH When I say it is a Jesuit parish, I mean that it was first started by Jesuit , as were other parishes in Barbados, and the priests serving here have always been Jesuit. But more than Jesuit Logo that, the people of this parish are inspired by Jesuit ideals and work with the priests for the spreading of the kingdom of God.

WHO ARE THE JESUITS? The Jesuits (also known as the ) are an international of men within the Church. It was founded in 1540 by St and his nine companions. Today we are 18,000 priests and brothers present in over 100 countries, as , parish priests, chaplains, teachers, academics, writers, doctors, spiritual directors and artists. Following the vision of our founder, St Ignatius, we seek to "find God in all things" always trying to discern God’s presence in our lives and where God is leading us.

Our motto is “For the Greater Glory of God” with the emphasis on the word “Greater”, always looking for more, always going further. In all situations we try to discern the path which will serve God and those in need in the best way possible. We do this gratefully in collaboration with the people of our parish who share our values. Our parish is a Jesuit parish, always trying to discern where God our Lord is leading us. SEEKING THE GREATEST NEED. When the Jesuits started, it seemed that the two greatest needs were to offer education to poor people who couldn't afford it and to take the word of God to newly discovered lands. St Ignatius was born in the same year that Christopher Columbus reached the Caribbean and the world of Europe was opened ; within 100 years Jesuit missionaries were preaching in North and and in and the Far East. What are the greatest need today? The was started in 1980 in response to the needs of the Vietnamese “boat people” and is now established as an international force. More than that, because of the terrible situation in Syria and in the Near East, the Jesuit General has this month has asked for more of us to take up work there – not just in the short term but men willing to spend the rest of their lives in that terrible situation. We are a Jesuit parish and we will support such works in any way that we can across the world.
