Carlos Pernaut HISTORIA II PLAZA LAVALLE ficha bibliográfica Nº 21 TEATRO COLON 1890-1908 Proyecto Francisco Tamburini Víctor Mean o Julio Dormal Construcción Ángel Ferrari 1 HISTORIA DE LA CONSTRUCCION DEL TEATRO Para comenzar la historia de la construcción del nuevo Colón, como se lo llamaba entonces, hay que remontarse al 13 de septiembre de 1888, año en que cierra sus puertas el antiguo Colón. Este había sido inaugurado en 1857 y a través de una brillante trayectoria de 30 años, los que generaron el gusto por la opera en generaciones de porteños que la llegaron a considerar como la expresión teatral por excelencia. Vista desde Plaza Lavalle – Proyecto de Meano de 1892 Para el emplazamiento se contaba con dos importantes predios céntricos; uno era la manzana comprendida entre las calles Entre Ríos, Rivadavia, Combate de los Pozos y Victoria, hoy Hipólito Irigoyen (donde posteriormente se construyó el Congreso de la Nación),y el otro, rodeado por las calles Libertad, Cerrito, Tucumán y Viamonte, ocupado en aquel momento por el Estado Mayor del Ejército y que correspondió otrora a la vieja estación del Parque, del Ferro Carril Oeste, frente a la plaza Lavalle. Fueron muchos los empresarios que desearon concursar, pero la magnitud de las dificultades que encerraba la obra redujeron el número a tres proponentes: Camilo Bonetti, José Astigueta y Ángel Ferrari. Los tres coincidieron en elegir la manzana ubicada frente a la plaza Lavalle. El concurso fue ganado por Ángel Ferrari, empresario que ya había refaccionado el teatro de la Opera, que reemplazaba provisionalmente al desaparecido coliseo de la plaza de Mayo. -

The building, which ranges from approximately 113 to 120 feet in height, contains approximately 304 dwelling units and 4,540 square feet of retail space. The building will feature approximately 50 feet of street frontage on Market Street, with the majority of the proposed development on the corner of Golden Gate Avenue and Jones Street. The building’s entrance façade will be made of GFRC/precast concrete, punch windows with painted metal infill panel, storefront glass on the retail portion, and painted metal or concrete columns at the ground level. Pursuant to Planning Code Section 429, the Project requires a public art component valued at an amount equal to one percent of the hard construction costs for the Project as determined by the Director of Building Inspection. The Project Sponsor has commissioned an artist to provide on-site public art to satisfy this requirement. CURRENT PROPOSAL Ivan Navarro has been selected for the public art installation at 1066 Market Street, a New York based artist who specializes in sculpture and installations utilizing light as his primary medium.
