Still Photography Research Essay Guidelines

For this research essay you will select and research a photographer and his/her work. Each student must select their own subject from the following individuals by Thursday June 13th 2013th with the final essay due by Thursday July 4th 2013.

The paper should include an introduction which explains your reason for selecting this person and the body of the paper must cover as much of the following information as possible: 1. Full name of individual. 2. Date and place of birth & indicate years of life (and if still living). 3. How influenced-by others in their field/industry. 4. How influenced-by circumstances in life. 5. Awards, fellowships, grants, etc. (explain nature of award). 6. Typical subject matter of pieces made by this artist. 7. What this artist is trying/ tried to communicate. 8. Typical style of work. 9. Geographic places this artist has worked. 10. Significant contribution(s) to their field/industry. 11. What they themselves said/say about their work (quotes OK) 12. What others have said about the artist’s work.

The research essay must:

Be written in your own words. DO NOT CUT AND PASTE from sources. Include a minimum of three (3) examples of the artist’s work within the body of the essay, including the piece’s title and year made. Examples must be of good visual quality (i.e., readable-not overly pixilated). Include sources of information from at least five (5) legitimate sources which support the paper’s content cited in the bibliography. Andrew P. Smith June 11 2013
