It was one of the most popular and influential television shows in the 1990s. TV Guide ranked it as one of the greatest ever. “Seinfeld” was created by Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld. Larry David left the show after the seventh season. Most episodes were set in an apartment in Manhattan’s Upper West Side, but it was was actually filmed in a Los Angeles studio. Jerry’s main costars in the show were Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander, and Michael Richards. “Seinfeld” was described as “the show about nothing”; it was based around largely inconsequential small things in everyday life. Often, an episode would involve petty rivalries and elaborate schemes to gain advantage over other individuals. The main characters were often selfish and unconcerned with the rightness or wrongness of something. This was the general theme of the show. It tried to reflect the activities of real people. “Seinfeld” differed from other sitcoms in that none of the characters were related by blood or employed in the same building or office. Each week of our class at least two episodes of “Seinfeld” will be shown. There will be discussions before and after each episode. Class members will be encouraged to do their own research about the episodes on their computers. Extra materials will always be provided to supplement the class. “Seinfeld” trivia contests will be held each week. Start your weekend with some Seinfeld humor. .

Savage 1 “Who’s gonna turn down a Junior Mint? It’s chocolate, it’s peppermint ─it’s delicious!” While this may sound like your typical television commercial, you can thank Jerry Seinfeld and his butter fingers for what is actually one of the most renowned lines in television history. As part of a 1993 episode of Seinfeld , subsequently known as “The Junior Mint,” these infamous words have certainly gained a bit more attention than the show’s writers had originally bargained for. In fact, those of you who were annoyed by last year’s focus on a McDonald’s McFlurry on NBC’s 30 Rock may want to take up your beef with Seinfeld’s producers for supposedly showing marketers the way to the future ("Brand Practice: Product Integration Is as Old as Hollywood Itself").

The Gold Cadillac by Mildred D. Taylor BACKGROUND The novella The Gold Cadillac takes place around 1950. African Americans, especially those living in the South during this time, continued to be treated unfairly. Experiences like the one the family in the story has when entering Mississippi outraged blacks and many whites. During the Civil Rights Era of the mid-1950s and 1960s, many people demanded changes in the laws across the nation. We threw open the front door, ran through the downstairs front parlor and straight through the house to the kitchen, where my mother was cooking and one of my aunts was helping her. “Come on, Mother-Dear!” we cried together. “Daddy say come on out and see this new car!” A “What?” said my mother, her face showing her surprise. “What’re you talking about?” Copyright © by Holt, Rinehart and Winston.

As in all aspects of life, this can mean dealing with those who may not share your views or approach. In order to adapt quickly and improvise in these instances, it’s helpful to understand people’s communication and personality styles.
