The Provisional Dept. of Indian Territory & Oklahoma organized 23 June 1890, becoming a Permanent Department on 7 Aug. 1890. The Provisional Dept. of Indian Territory was separated from the Dept. of Oklahoma on 22 June 1891, becoming a Permanent Department on 3 July 1891. It recombined and merged into the Dept. of Oklahoma on 19-22 May 1908 (a few months after the Oklahoma and Indian Territories combined to form the new state).
