From the Pastor:

This year, our season ends early, with the Baptism of the Lord being celebrated tomorrow. That makes today the last Sunday of this year’s Christmas season and is the Feast of the of the Lord. As we gather to hear once again the story of the Magi, let us reflect on its significance in our own lives and pray for the grace to recognize where God is being revealed to us this week.

Next week, with the conclusion of the Christmas Season, we will be back in the green of Ordinary Time. Once again, even if I do say so myself, Christmas at St. Peter Chanel was extraordinary. Our beautiful Christmas celebration was the result of the talented efforts of many. On behalf of our parish family, I offer my wholehearted gratitude for all their hard work:

• Our parish Music Ministry, under the direction of Jane Jackson, once again accomplished a major feat providing music for 13 Masses on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and doing so in a most beautiful manner. • Doni Strok, Findlay Rowe Florists, and the many parish volunteers who beautifully decorated the Church, Parish Hall, and even the auditorium at Blessed for our celebration. • Knights of Columbus, the Men’s Club, and the parish staff for the many ways they made the Christmas spirit come alive here at St. Peter Chanel. • To all our Liturgical Ministers, Lectors, Ushers, Greeters, Sacristans and Eucharistic Ministers who contributed to the beauty of our and offered hospitality to our many visitors, making them feel welcome. • To our children, who participated in the Family Masses on Christmas Eve, serving as lectors and by taking part in the presentation of the Nativity Story.

Finally, thank you for your generosity to our parish this Christmas and your welcoming spirit to all our out-of- town guests and visitors.

On this Feast of the Epiphany, may the Christ Child bless our collective work in the year ahead.

When the song of the angels is stilled When the star in the sky is gone, When the kings and princes are home When the shepherds are back with their flock, The work of Christmas begins: To find the lost, To heal the broken, To feed the hungry, To release the prisoner, To rebuild the nations, To bring peace among others, To make music in the heart.

Lifetime of Searching Leads to the Catholic Church

Max and Bonny Faulkner’s romance began when they were both 19 years old, and Bonny asked Max to dance. They fell in love and were married in the Baptist Church. Over the course of the next 33 years, they traveled, grew professionally and welcomed two sons. Their faith journey led them out of the Baptist Church and into the Lutheran and Episcopal Churches. Their search for a place to worship continued until their son, Travis, married a Catholic, and they met the Read family, parishioners at St. Peter Chanel. The influence of these individuals, as well as books, websites, and other resources, opened the door to their decision to explore the Catholic faith, and join RCIA (a process for adults to become Catholic or complete their Catholic Sacraments). They shared the following: "We were surprised to learn that we had a Max and Bonny lot in common with others who were journeying in the process to become Catholic. Faulkner Most of them were from similar faith backgrounds, and had the same questions about Church traditions. RCIA gave us an opportunity to hear guest speakers, clergy, religious, and parishioners, who were very enlightening as they shared the rich depth and beauty of the Catholic faith. We were also supported by RCIA team members and sponsors, who welcomed and encouraged us every step of the way. We became Catholic in April of this year, and feel at peace spiritually for the first time in many years. We consider St. Peter Chanel home, and fellow parishioners our new family.
