The Gifts of Liminality Ellen Shankman | Israel “What comes to mind when I think of identity? Well, for one the many hats I wear. I think woman, I think mother, I think wife, friend, lawyer, artist, Jewish and feminist and others. Indeed, I spent way too many years being those roles siloed and I thought that leaking between them was a weakness and I now understand that its the tapestry of them that matters and that the strength comes, MY strength comes from having as many of these as possible...” -Ellen Shankman

Legacy Lament Sayiga Eugene Peabody | Illinois Summer Dregs | Tennessee Choreography by Ariel Rivka | New Jersey

LEGACY LAMENT by Sayiga Eugene Peabody

Life...? Well, it’s the LOVE for me. Some Passion! A Presence. Relief from this long lasting legacy. Mmm hmm, a legacy!? My legacy prolly won’t be passed through my genes. Instead, I’m ‘on create! I’m ‘on be the maker of a movement, and bring the kids together. My children ‘ill be born from expression... and they will LIVE in the art. Musicians in the Movement... They, will DANCE!

Ah nah no gronah pekin makin’ bebe... and causin’ plawa. (Liberian accent/slang (I’m not a wild street boy, making babies... and causing drama)).

Me? Unlike my roots, I am the American Dream. I am an international treasure, where the whites reside. I’m likely my ancestors least favored seed. Yet, I bloom! Under pressure, and full of PRIDE. For all who couldn’t, I Dance! We’ll Dance! C’mon, LET’S DANCE!!

Sayiga Eugene Peabody has directed at a youth dance and theater school, guest taught for conventions and collegiate dance and theatre programs throughout the U.S. His credits include T.V.: Fosse/Verdon Series on FX, Theater: Disney's The Lion King National Tour (Rafiki), An American In Paris (1st National Tour), Maria De Buenos Aires (Chicago Opera Theater), Cats, Anything Goes, Sister Act, and Evita (Marriott Lincolnshire). Dance Companies: Giordano Dance Chicago, Danceworks Chicago, Luna Negra Dance Theater, and Ballet Hispanico.

Summer Dregs is music producer Carl Cadwell bringing stunningly unexpected and unique music to life. He specializes in helping artists make music that is most their own, that only they and he together could make. Carl started off touring with jazz-fusion and old soul outfits. Though the percussion and urgency of those early groups can still be felt in his production, his love for the rhythms of modern R&B and global-pop soon took center stage. Summer Dregs started when Carl‘s drive to blend pop and experimentalism could no longer be contained in a single band. He started producing and writing songs with a myriad of Chattanooga artists under the name Summer Dregs. His penchant for reckless ecstasy, neon synths and collaboration has led him to produce for many musicians in the bubbling Chattanooga scene and beyond.
