SUMMER WATER STREET COMPANY DANCE ‘19 INTENSIVES GRADES 2ND- 12TH (AGES 7-18) 2 WEEKS OF DANCE INTENSITY Water Company’s Summer Intensives are designed to educate, strengthen, and train dancers to be more well-rounded and successful performing artists. This year we are expanding our age groups to include ages 7-14 and our class list to 24 sessions . With the new format we will have 3 classes per day and will rotate rooms to expose students to even more teachers and styles than before! Below is our stellar lineup for Summer 2019:

Any area competitive dancers are welcome to attend and will find these two weeks to be one of Central Illinois’ best instructional lineups. For prospective Water Street Competition Dancers, a minimum of 5 Intensive Days are a prerequisite to attend Tryouts (July 29th & 31st). For more information about Water Street’s Competitive Team, please attend our Interest meeting on June 12th (7:00-8:00 pm @ the Studio).

ASHLEY TATE - JULY 16th (WEEK 1)

Ashley L. Tate is the founder, artistic director, and lead choreographer of Ashleyliane Dance Company (ADC), a full service dance organization based in the Greater St. Louis area. Ashley has studied dance for over 30 years. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Science from Texas Christian University, where she served two consecutive years as captain during her four-year stint as a member of the TCU Showgirls Dance Team. She has been an instructor for National Dance Alliance, a cast member in a Sony Dreamworks motion picture, and a bodily-kinesthetic intelligence presenter for St. Louis Area Resources for Community and Human Services (ARCHS).

Ms. Tate has choreographed for NCAA basketball and football halftime shows, studio recitals, theatre productions, professional dance organizations, and national and regional dance competitions. She teaches master classes and workshops in contemporary, hip hop, jazz, lyrical, and specialty classes in turns, leaps, and cardio hip hop. She was a member of the Saint Louis Rams Football Cheerleaders, serving as a captain for two years. She also served as the head cheer and dance coach at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and as an adjudicator for Cathy Roe Ultimate Dance Competitions. Ms. Tate is now a board member for Missouri Dance Organization, and a member of the National Dance Education Organization, and an adjudicator for Fury Dance Competitions. She is also a recently certified Zumba® instructor.

Ms. Tate is an adjunct instructor of dance at Washington University in St. Louis and the former chair of the dance department at Grand Center Arts Academy. She was invited to a private audition for Cirque du Soleil’s Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour and is a recipient of Grand Center’s Emerging Artist Visionary Award. She has served as a judge for the Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation’s Teen Talent Showcase for several years. She is also a winner of the Pulse On Tour Dance Convention Protégé Scholarship, a Monsters of Hip Hop Scholarship (and a former Monsters Show Nominee), and is signed as a dancer and dance educator with Clear Talent Group in Los Angeles, California. Her work has chosen to be featured in choreographer’s showcases at the Peridance Capezio Center, TADA! Theater, and Baruch Performing Arts Center, all in New York City, as well as the Choreographer’s Carnival in , Illinois and Versatility Dance Festival in Boulder, Colorado.

Ms. Tate is a 2018 recipient of the Spencer T & Ann W. Olin Fellowship for Women in Graduate Study. She is a graduate student in the Performing Arts Department at Washington University in St. Louis, pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree in Dance. KENZIE JOHNSON - JULY 22nd (WEEK 2)

Kenzie Johnson began dancing at the age of 3 years old with Gina and continued dancing competitively all the way through her senior year of high school. Kenzie was also a 4-year member of the Pekin Community High School Dance Team where she served as captain her senior year. During her senior year, the dance team won 2nd place at IDTA State in both the lyrical and jazz division with routines co-choreographed by Kenzie.

Kenzie continued to choreograph competitive routines for both this studio and the PCHS dance team in college and graduate school. Kenzie has taught several classes at summer intensives and taught Thursday night technique/ competitive class at this studio during the 2015-2016 dance season.

Kenzie now works at UnityPoint Health-Pekin as a speech-language pathologist and will be one of the assistant coaches for the PCHS dance team this fall. Kenzie is so excited to be back at her home studio and can’t wait to be involved with the dancers again!

JACQUELYN LAYMAN - JULY 18th (WEEK 1)

Jacquilynn Layman has been in St. Louis for 7 years, a transplant from Peoria, Illinois. Jaci started with the Ashleyliane Dance Company as a junior program trainee. After a few years with the professional arm of the company she has been asked to become their Assistant and Rehearsal director.

She has been with this company for 6 and a half years. Jacquilynn also taught hip hop, jazz, and contemporary for M and M Dance Studio in the St. Louis, Missouri area and Taylor's Academy of Dance in O'Fallon, Illinois . At M and M, Taylor's Academy of Dance, and Water Street Dance Company, she choreographs solos for their award-winning competitive teams.

Jaci also continues her artistic freedom as a hairstylist, at Meché Salon as a stylist and a makeup artist. She has done hair and makeup for Ted Talks, Ashleyliane Dance Company and professional photography studios, including Wildfire Photography. She is excited to be a part of the Water Street Dance Company Summer Program. KIRSTYN RUSSELL - JULY 23rd (WEEK 2)

Kirstyn Russell started dancing at the age of three. Throughout her childhood, she took many classes in jazz, tap, hip hop and ballet. She started her dancing career with Gina at WSDC at the age of 10, and began dancing competitively at the age of 12. She continued and technique with WSDC until graduating from Metamora Township High School. During her high school years, she assisted in teaching classes of all ages at WSDC ranging from hip hop to preschool combo!

Throughout high school she was a member of the dance team under the direction of Devery McCoy. Kirstyn has taught and choreographed many different for local dance teams such as Metamora Township High School and Germantown Hills Middle School. Kirstyn is currently a senior at Methodist College majoring in Bachelors of Science in Nursing. She lives in Germantown and is a mother to her 20 month old daughter, Mila.

LINDSAY PLATH - JULY 15th (WEEK 1)

Lindsay Plath is a tap and instructor. Since 2010, she has taught dance in the Chicago suburbs and in the central Illinois area. She started dancing at the age of three and began training with Gina Kennedy when she was 6 years old!

Lindsay was a competitive dancer for 12 years and a member and captain of her high school’s dance team. She graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a minor in dance where she was named Dance Minor of the Year her senior year. She has won several awards and is excited to return to Just Dance this summer! MEGAN ARMSTRONG - JULY 24th & 25th (WEEK 2)

Megan began dancing at age four in Metamora, Illinois. In high school, she competed with Water Street Dance Company for three years. Megan attended Lindenwood University as a dance major. She was also a member of the Lionettes Dance Team for two years.

While attending Lindenwood, she had the opportunity to perform at the Boston Contemporary Dance Festival, the American College Dance Association in Kansas, Grand Center’s Dancing in the Streets, and more. During her senior year, she was a member of Ashleyliane Dance Company in St. Louis.

She is now teaching at Heavenly Rhythm Dance Studio in Collinsville, Illinois. She is also looking forward to being the Junior Varsity coach of Triad High School’s dance team next year. Megan loves coming home to Just Dance to teach each summer and can’t wait for intensives!

REGAN FAIRFIELD - JULY 22nd & 23rd (WEEK 2)

Regan Fairfield, originally from Metamora, IL, received her early training at the Peoria Ballet and Water Street Dance Company. She then attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, graduating from the High School Contemporary Dance program in 2011.

After returning to Chicago, she was the winner of the Foundation of Artists Mentored in Entertainment scholarship in May of 2013. While living in Chicago, Regan has danced with Giordano Dance Chicago and, most recently, the Chicago Luvabulls (Go Bulls!).

Regan is currently directing a pre-professional program at a dance studio in Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood. She is looking forward to the Summer Intensives at Water Street Dance Company. THOMAS PROCTOR - JULY 18th (WEEK 1)

Thomas Proctor began seriously training in dance when he joined the Dance Department at Southeast Missouri State. In college, Thomas began dedicating his focus and energy to dance, and received the opportunity to work not only with his amazing professors, but with guest artists such as Brenna Monroe-Cook (Limon Dance Company), Brandon Cournay (Keigwin + Company), and Ashley Tate (Ashleyliane Dance Company). In fact, during an American College Dance Festival Association master class, he met Ashley Tate and knew St. Louis would be his home base.

Thomas graduated from Southeast Missouri State with a B.F.A. in Dance and auditioned for the Ashleyliane Dance Company, where he has danced for the past 5 years. Thomas is starting his 6th season with the company, having had the honor of acting as a performer, teacher and choreographer within Ashleyliane Dance Company. Thomas is honored to continue to be a part of this amazing organization, and will be continue his dance education by pursuing a M.F.A. at Washington University. He is excited about teaching technique at Water Street Dance Company.

SUMMER THARP - JULY 17th (WEEK 1)

Summer was born & raised in the Peoria area. She is a former Water Street dancer and 4-year member of the Metamora High School Dance Team. Movement & creation are her passion. She studied at Columbia College Chicago where a love for the arts really flourished.

Her experiences with Yoga and relaxation techniques have garnered a huge appreciation for therapeutic practices. Studying both dance and therapy has led to a desire to promote the concepts of wellness and balance. Summer is AFAA certified and currently working to become an Occupational Therapist. She is excited to share her knowledge & experiences with students during intensives this year. SAMANTHA RIBER- JULY 24th (WEEK 4)

Samantha Riber started dancing at the age of seven. She wanted to learn it all and studied ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, acro and modern. She graduated from Metamora Township High School and continued her passion in dance at the University of Iowa where she found her niche with modern technique. She received her B.A. in dance and a minor in Italian language.

She toured with the university’s dance company, Dancers In Company, and performed and choreographed in many performances held at Space Place Theatre.

She has attended and performed at the American College Dance Festival, the Joffrey Jazz and Contemporary Intensive and spent 3 weeks in Lucca, Italy at Dance Italia with a concentration on creating movement. Samantha currently resides in Kewanee with her husband, Bennett, and their new little boy, Roman.

GWEN MEEKER - JULY 15th (WEEK 1)

Gwen Meeker is well known for her intensity and passion for the art of dance. She has studied all genres of dance, and is an incredible choreographer. She has studied with internationally known instructors such as Brian Friedman, Dave Scott, Chris Judd, Tamara Squires and Liz Imperio to name a few.

In 2000 Gwen attended The Edge Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles, California. Gwen graduated from Lindenwood University with a BA in Dance Management and was awarded Dancer of the Year in 2009. She is a member of the Turn of Change Dance Collective and has choreographed for several dance teams in the area.

She currently teaches jazz, hip-hop and tumbling at Turning Pointe Academy of Dance in Maryville, IL., an adjunct dance professor at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville and has just recently taken a new position at Fairview Heights Rec Center teaching a Hip Hop Fit class. Gwen is highly regarded for her challenging and enthusiastic hip hop classes and choreography. Gwen can’t wait for WSDC’s Summer Intensives!
