Important dates: June 1, 2006: Deadline for registration and payment of registration fee. June 1, 2006: Deadline for receipt of Abstracts December 1, 2006: Deadline for receipt of manuscripts for AAP Memoir General Information The Adelaide area (including Kangaroo Island) has cool wet winters. In August, maximum temperatures will be generally in the range of 13°C to 18°C with minimum temperatures down to about 4°C. There is every possibility of rain, so some form of waterproof jacket is required. The ferry crossing to Kangaroo Island takes one hour and may be rough; if you are prone to seasickness then suitable measures should be taken. We will be visiting the central and northern Flinders Ranges, a semiarid upland, about 500km north of Adelaide with a total population of about 1000. The area is fairly isolated; public transport is very limited and in places non-existent. The main towns are Leigh Creek (population 600) and Hawker (250). In places the scenery is spectacular and the wildlife abundant. The weather is usually very pleasant with temperatures normally between 6°C and 22°C. We will be unlucky to encounter rain, but it is certainly possible. Even at 20°C your skin will burn within an hour; a hat, sunscreen and insect repellent are essential. Good footwear is essential. Most field stops will require some walking with distances of up to 3km. At one or two localities there will be moderately steep slopes where care must be taken. The principal hazards are loose rocks. Snakes exist but are rarely seen in winter. All participants should carry any personal medication, their own personal first aid kit and have some form of personal health insurance. The results of this analysis are enclosed with specific details of each outlet contained at Appendix 1. In summaI)'. there are 262 rural or remote offices that receive less than a daily despatch each week. Due to resourcing and time constraints only 57 of these offices are able to append a postmark to mail upon lodgement and before despatch - leaving 205 offices where mail is not postmarked at point of lodgement. In extreme instances it can take up to eight days for an item that is lodged in the network in one of these rural or remote offices to have a postmark or processing imprint placed on it. Even in situations where there are daily clearances any mail piece lodged in a Street Posting Box after it is cleared on a FIiday night will not be postmarked until Sunday at the earliest - which in the context of a Postal vote for a federal election would render the vote invalid.

  • Soil Conservation Board District Plan : Northern Flinders Ranges
Soil Conservation Board District Plan Revised 2004 NORTHERNNORTHERN FLINDERSFLINDERS RANGESRANGES FOREWORD The Northern Flinders Soil Conservation Board has been involved in various activities since the inception of our first District Plan, which was completed in 1997. Most of the activities that we pursued since that time have been carried out or on-going. Several new projects have been completed, namely the Aroona Dam Biodiversity Enhancement Project. This project has seen the construction of two walking trails, interpretive signage, feral animal control including goats, foxes and cats, as well as a comprehensive destruction of rabbit warrens and land rehabilitation. Another project was a Pilot Programme, which involved local landholders, Animal Plant Control Commission and NPWSA in a range of activities including weed control, feral animal control and land rehabilitation. This integrated with the NPWSA Bounceback Programme in feral goat control, donkey control and 1080 baiting for foxes. Some projects undertaken by landholders were rabbit warren destruction, water point relocation, land rehabilitation and water ponding to name just a few. The Northern Flinders Soil Conservation Board has also become involved with a Regional Soil Board Executive, which has sourced funding from N.H.T. grants from the Commonwealth Government. Most of this funding is on a 50/50 basis and has met with approval from landholders throughout the Soil Board region. The proposed Natural Resources Management Act has yet to be legislated and further meetings are planned before it will become law. There are a number of concerns by Boards in the Rangelands of South Australia not the least of which is the ongoing funding of these proposed groups and the people who will drive them.
