Photo by Darryl Royans As November is our last meeting we do not have a guest speaker although there will be a trip report. Some 25 members attended the SAPOL Road safety Centre at Thebarton in October for what was an informative afternoon on both vehicle modifications and vehicle weights, with detail provided for both single vehicles and those who Next General Meeting: tow campers and vans. th It was quite apparent that the legalities regarding vehicle modifications has been 25 November 2013 ~ 7.30pm tightened. Today all that can be achieved simply is a modest 50mm lift. Beyond that an engineer needs to be engaged (at considerable cost) and the vehicle Trip Report: subject to Lane Change Manoeuvre Testing. A lift can be achieved through suspension upgrade, body lifting or Tyres/rims. Those who have a lift through suspension upgrade and then fit oversize tyres may find that combination puts Guest Speaker: them over 50mm. If over the 50mm there may be potential Insurance issues for vehicle and for individuals under personal liability if involved in an accident. It is important to note that whilst these changes are recent they apply to all vehicles regardless of when modifications were made. We are told that vehicles that appear to be over 50mm raised height are being queried with Police seeking evidence of engineering compliance which must be carried in the vehicle. With tyre changes the combination of rim/tyre cannot increase or decrease the vehicles standard tyre size diameter (as per your vehicle placard) by greater than 15mm. This 15mm is quite minimal. Knowing I changed to Cooper AT3’s recently I thought I would check mine to find my diameter had increased by 13.5 mm so I am still compliant (just). There are any number of web sites that you can load tyre detail in to check your individual situation and if you have changed tyre size I would encourage you to do this check. The other interesting aspect was on lights. The maximum permitted is 6 and any additional lights must be in pairs. Of interest if you have separate high and low beam lights (common on some 80 series) then you already have 4 so can Newsletter Articles Deadline: only then fit 2 driving lights that must be of equal light intensity. As for those rows of lights that adorn roof racks well they are definitely out. (Read as illegal) It was great to see a good number of guests at our October meeting. Many had Sunday December 8th, 2013 spoken with Club members at Wayville and quite a number have lodged an application to join. Please help to make them welcome at our meetings. Darryl Royans Landcruising Australia Wide November 2013 Page 3 training training calendar Something that I mentioned a few months ago occurred again during the Edmund Morries Morgan training weekend in October. When I left work on the Friday at Education Officer lunch time, there was still nine people who were expected to turn up. One Telephone : 8278 5777 of the trainers had already been cancelled as the numbers had reduced due email : [email protected] to several factors. On the Saturday morning, three trainees turned up. As one was sick and Ralph Abbot another had mechanical problems. This meant that four people did not have Assistant Education Officer the decency or manners to notify us that they had no intention of turning up Telephone : 8269 7378 at all. Some of these were involved in other activities that they obviously email : [email protected] planned several weeks, if not months, ahead. This is totally unacceptable. A new policy will be put into effect. Anyone who does not notify us that they will not turn up for training will be warned the first time, banned from training for six months for the second time. TLCCSA training Third time it will be a year. The tyre repair session is now full. There is a limit how many can fit into team for 2013 Allan’s sheds. The results of this analysis are enclosed with specific details of each outlet contained at Appendix 1. In summaI)'. there are 262 rural or remote offices that receive less than a daily despatch each week. Due to resourcing and time constraints only 57 of these offices are able to append a postmark to mail upon lodgement and before despatch - leaving 205 offices where mail is not postmarked at point of lodgement. In extreme instances it can take up to eight days for an item that is lodged in the network in one of these rural or remote offices to have a postmark or processing imprint placed on it. Even in situations where there are daily clearances any mail piece lodged in a Street Posting Box after it is cleared on a FIiday night will not be postmarked until Sunday at the earliest - which in the context of a Postal vote for a federal election would render the vote invalid.

  • Soil Conservation Board District Plan : Northern Flinders Ranges
Soil Conservation Board District Plan Revised 2004 NORTHERNNORTHERN FLINDERSFLINDERS RANGESRANGES FOREWORD The Northern Flinders Soil Conservation Board has been involved in various activities since the inception of our first District Plan, which was completed in 1997. Most of the activities that we pursued since that time have been carried out or on-going. Several new projects have been completed, namely the Aroona Dam Biodiversity Enhancement Project. This project has seen the construction of two walking trails, interpretive signage, feral animal control including goats, foxes and cats, as well as a comprehensive destruction of rabbit warrens and land rehabilitation. Another project was a Pilot Programme, which involved local landholders, Animal Plant Control Commission and NPWSA in a range of activities including weed control, feral animal control and land rehabilitation. This integrated with the NPWSA Bounceback Programme in feral goat control, donkey control and 1080 baiting for foxes. Some projects undertaken by landholders were rabbit warren destruction, water point relocation, land rehabilitation and water ponding to name just a few. The Northern Flinders Soil Conservation Board has also become involved with a Regional Soil Board Executive, which has sourced funding from N.H.T. grants from the Commonwealth Government. Most of this funding is on a 50/50 basis and has met with approval from landholders throughout the Soil Board region. The proposed Natural Resources Management Act has yet to be legislated and further meetings are planned before it will become law. There are a number of concerns by Boards in the Rangelands of South Australia not the least of which is the ongoing funding of these proposed groups and the people who will drive them.
