Angus Autumn Adventures is a brand new event which gives you the opportunity to try out some outdoor activities which you may not have had the chance to experience before. From the magnificent scenery of the glens, to the imposing cliffs and shoreline, there is no better place than Angus to try your hand at something new in the great outdoors. Whether it be learning new skills in wildlife photography, or a high adrenalin coasteering experience there is something for everyone in this fun-packed weekend. There are also plenty of activities for children to get involved in as well as adults! All the activities listed here are carried out by fully qualified and accredited companies and individuals who have a great amount of experience between them in helping others to enjoy the activities they offer. Taking part in outdoor activities is an ideal way to keep fit, and much more fun than going to the gym!

Horse Riding

Provider: Glenmarkie Riding and Trekking Centre (www.glenmarkie.co.uk) Day: Saturday and Sunday Time: 09.30, 11.00 and 13.00 on both days Cost: £11.25 per person

At Glenmarkie we offer riding lessons, trekking/hacking, pony parties and riding breaks for all ages and abilities. Glenmarkie is situated in a secluded area in the middle of the Glenisla forest. It is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and an ideal spot for horse riding away from roads and busy traffic. This special offer includes a 30 minute riding lesson and a 30 minute pony trek in the forest.

Children’s Nature Walks

Provider: Granny Thompson (www.glentrek.com) Day: Saturday and Sunday Time: 09.30 and 14.00 both days (activity lasts approx 2 hours) Cost: £5.00 per person

A series of walks are offered to explore the delights of Angus tailored to enthral children and families. Bring sturdy footwear, waterproofs, containers to collect shells, stones, cones etc., notebooks and pencils and a camera to record your day out. All the walks are guided but families take responsibilities for the children. - Caves of Carlingheugh Bay (Saturday 09.30): meet at car park. - West Woods of Ethie (Saturday 14.00): meet at Meadowbank Inn car park, Arbroath. - River South Esk (Sunday 09.30) meet at Montrose Basin Visitor Centre lay-by. - The Lurgies (Sunday 14.00): meet at Montrose Basin Visitor Centre lay-by.

Overnight Wild Camping

An overnight wild camping trip to the plateau above Glen Doll. Equipment provided including rucksack, tent, sleeping bag, etc. You will need to bring appropriate hill walking gear, and what you like to eat and drink. Meet at Glen Doll car park.

5 Tank Driving

Provider: Tank Driving Scotland (www.tankdrivingscotland.com) Day: Saturday and Sunday Time: Saturday 10.00, 10.30 and 11.00 / Sunday 10.00 and 10.30 Cost: £74.25 per person

This one-to-one Major General experience guarantees to put your abilities to the test and see what these massive machines can do. Total experience approx one hour, total drive time approx 20 minutes, course includes beginners track and obstacle negotiations track. Includes one-to-one instruction.

Canoeing

Provider: Outdoor Dimensions Scotland (www.outdoordimensions.co.uk) Day: Saturday and Sunday Time: 09.30 and 13.00 both days Cost: £30 per person

Come and join us for a 3 hour canoeing session. This is an ideal introduction for those wishing to try canoeing for the first time. You will learn how to move the canoe forwards, backwards, sideways and also how to turn it around. This usually involves lots of games, and the chance that you might get wet! This all happens at Forfar Loch.

6 Guided Mountain Biking

Provider: Glentrek (www.glentrek.com) Day: Saturday Time: 10.00 and 14.00 Cost: £26.25

Guided biking in the Montrose area. Explore the tracks around Hillside and the Northwater Bridge on two wheels. Minimum age 12 and participants should be comfortable with riding a bike. Please bring a rucksack with waterproofs, food and drink. Meet at the Park Hotel Montrose. Price includes mountain bike, helmet and knowledgeable guide. Session lasts around two hours.

Guided Mountain Biking

Provider: Glentrek (www.glentrek.com) Day: Sunday Time: 10.00 and 14.00 Cost: £26.25

Guided biking in the Glenisla area. Explore forest tracks and enjoy the views over a remote loch, while we lead the way. Minimum age 12 and participants should be comfortable riding a bike. Please bring a rucksack with waterproofs, food and drink. Meet at Glenisla Village Hall. Price includes mountain bike, helmet and knowledgeable guide. Session lasts around two hours.

7 Rock Climbing

Provider: Highway2 Adventure (www.highway2adventure.com) Day: Saturday and Sunday Time: 10.00, 12.30 and 14.30 both days Cost: £15 per person

Have a go at learning the basics of rock climbing at Kirriemuir Quarry – it’s a fantastic way for adults and children to keep fit! Minimum age 10. Please bring along waterproofs, food and drink and wear comfortable clothing. Meeting point, Camera Obscura, Kirrie Hill. Session lasts around 90 minutes.

Coasteering

Provider: Highway2 Adventure (www.highway2adventure.com) Day: Saturday and Sunday Time: 1.30pm Cost: £26.25 per person

If you’re looking for a fun and interesting challenge, then coasteering is the ideal outdoor activity. Coasteering adventurers navigate their way along sections of Scotland’s fabulous shoreline, using a combination of swimming, scrambling, rock climbing, sea level traversing and jumping. Minimum age 12. Meet at the Saltire Leisure Centre, Arbroath. Session lasts around two hours.

8 Gorge Walking

Provider: Highway2 Adventure (www.highway2adventure.com) Day: Saturday and Sunday Time: 10.00 and 13.30 both days Cost: £26.25 per person

Get wet, slide down flumes and explore an atmospheric gorge safely – a great activity for adults and children! Minimum age 10. Participants must be able to swim. Meet at The Retreat, Glenesk. Price includes hire of wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets. Session lasts around two and half hours.

Activity Half Day

Provider: Gulabin Lodge Outdoor Centre (www.gulabinlodge.co.uk) Day: Saturday Time: 10.00 Cost: £18.25 per person (£15 for under 15s)

This half day of activities includes the high ropes challenge, aerial runway, leap of faith and archery. Children under seven must be accompanied by an adult.

9 Mountain Biking

Provider: Gulabin Lodge Outdoor Centre (www.gulabinlodge.co.uk) Day: Saturday Time: 13.30 Cost: £18.25 per person (£15 for under 15s)

Mountain biking around the local area of Glenshee. Participants should be comfortable riding a bike. Children under seven must be accompanied by an adult.

Canyoning

Provider: Gulabin Lodge Outdoor Centre (www.gulabinlodge.co.uk) Day: Sunday Time: 09.30 and 13.00 Cost: £18.25

Canyoning involves traversing and descending the natural landscape, along rivers and down water-filled gorges or ravines. Techniques include climbing and abseiling, as well as swimming, and participants have fun getting over, around and down natural obstacles such as waterfalls, cliffs and swirling water rapids. Canyon adventurers will experience the thrill of a 75ft abseil into the foot of a gorge followed by an exciting swim down water into a jump pool. Over 15s only. The session lasts around two and a half hours.

10 Wildlife Walk - Birdwatching

Provider: Caledonian Adventures (www.caledonianadventures.com) Day: Saturday and Sunday Time: 12.00 - 17.00 Cost: £26.25

Spend the afternoon trying to spot two of Scotland’s most majestic birds of prey: the white tailed sea eagle and the golden eagle. Our guide has many years of experience working with the RSPB. You will be shown a range of flora and fauna throughout the afternoon gaining an insight into the natural history of Angus from an experienced and knowledgeable enthusiast.

Wildlife Walk - Photography
