This Duke record marks a nearly 30 percent increase over the previous record—$254.8 million raised during the 1997-98 fiscal year. "It's so good it's scary," said Robert Shepard, vice pres­ ident for University development. "It's way higher than what we expected. We are obviously wonderfully sur­ prised....
