Bright-eyed beauty once was she, When the bloom was on the tree : Spring and winter, Hannah’s at the window, binding shoes. Not a neighbor, Passing nod or answer will refuse, To her whisper, 44 Is there from the fishers any news?” Oh, her heart’s adrift, with one On an endless voyage gone ! Night and morning, Hannah’s at the window, binding shoes. Fair young Hannah, Ben, the sunburnt fisher, gayly wooes: Hale and clever, For a willing heart and hand he sues. May-day skies are all aglow, And the waves are laughing so ! For her wedding Hannah leaves her window and her shoes. May is passing : Mid the apple boughs a pigeon cooes. Hannah shudders, For the mild southwester mischief brews.     Section Three: Video and Presentation: Format A Target Audience: Youth, 11–14 Leader: Adult or youth age 15 and above with some skill and experience in group leadership Size of Group: 5–25 youth Session Time: 2 hours Format A works well with as few as 5 or as many as 25 participants. The presentation is interactive—you will provide some information, and the group will analyze the video and discuss it with their peers to identify healthy and unhealthy relationships. Participants will also learn to recognize warning signs of dating abuse and role play ways to encourage friends to get help and end unhealthy relationships. Newsprint activities and brief discussions allow them to voice their opinions about Choose Respect, the video, and key discussion points. The session concludes with an activity in which participants can brainstorm ideas for implementing Choose Respect in their community. Before you begin Format A, present Section Two (the Introduction and General Overview) to your group. This will provide background on Choose Respect and healthy versus unhealthy relationships. Then you are ready to show the video, Causing Pain: Real Stories of Dating Abuse and Violence, to kick off the discussion. The Interview Format UCSF students have shared that the format of their interview varied: They sometimes just met the district hiring manager, and also interviewed with a pharmacist. Usually, these were 1:1 interviews, rather than panels. In general: • Community pharmacy: Interviews usually involve an initial brief, 15 -20 minute phone interview, that can lead to an in person hour-long interview with a pharmacy recruiter or manager. • Hospital pharmacy, managed care & pharmaceutical pharmacy: Interviews also vary and often involve a screening phone interview that, if successful, can lead to an in person interview with your direct supervisor. The interview can range between 45 minutes to an hour. • Helpful Hint: When an employer calls to arrange an interview, it is fair to ask, “May I ask what the interview format will be so I can prepare?” You can ask about the length, the format and the names of individuals you will meet. B. Preparing for the Interview: Four good ideas Very few people can “wing” an interview successfully. Interviewing well is a skill that often requires both preparation and practice. It’s challenging to find the time to prep for an interview between classes, student group activities, as well as, the actual job search. However, UCSF students said that prepping for between 3-10 hours paid off in long run.

    Women at the Looms: An Analysis of Gender, Capital, and Textiles in 19th Century New England William Amara May 1, 2017 A senior thesis, submitted to the History Department of Brandeis University, in partial fulfillment of the Bachelor of Arts degree. Introduction: Gender, Capital, and Textiles “I can see myself now” wrote Harriet Hanson Robinson in 1898, “racing down the alley, between the spinning-frames, carrying in front of me a bobbin-box bigger than I was”.1 Harriet Robinson was a woman who worked in the textile mills of Lowell, Massachusetts, beginning at age 10. Many years later, she wrote a detailed memoir chronicling how the world in which she lived had changed since her employment in the mills. According to Robinson, before the mills opened in Lowell, the people of New England led lives not much different from their ancestors: they travelled only as fast as a canal boat, often bartered instead of using money, and wore clothes made at home.2 Only a child, Harriet began working in the Tremont Corporation as a “doffer,” or someone who carried bobbins, the cylinders which held yarn, between the looms in 1831 after her father died. Although she worked from 5am to 7pm every day except Sunday, she moved the bobbins for 15 minutes and spent 45 minutes of each hour not working.3 While Harriet Robinson’s experience in a Lowell mill was exceptional because she recorded the details of it so vividly in her memoir Loom and Spindle, the conditions she encountered were shared by ​ ​ many other “mill girls.” Lucy Larcom was another young woman who worked in the textile mills of Lowell.

    JOE TURNER’S COME AND GONE Synopsis Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, set in 1917, is the story of Harold Loomis who returns to a Pittsburgh in search of his wife. He is haunted by the memory of bounty hunter Joe Turner, the man who had illegally enslaved him. Loomis is unable to fully embrace or release the past. His search brings him to Seth and Bertha’s boarding house with his young daughter, Zonia, where “conjure man” Bynum shows him that he really is searching for himself. Characters BERTHA HOLLY: Seth's wife of 25 years and 5 years his junior. She knows her place in the hierarchy of the boardinghouse, yet still has some say in the decision making and will often voice her opinion. A very loving mother to the boardinghouse family. In the end, she tells Mattie that the only two things you need in your life are love and laughter; the things that she has had faith in and have helped her get by. HERALD LOOMIS: A resident of the boardinghouse. Having been enslaved by Joe Turner for seven years, Loomis has completely lost his way in life. An odd man that dons an overcoat and hat in mid- August, Loomis is 32 years old and a displaced slave searching for his wife. In the end he finds his song, an independent, self-sufficient song that he can sing proudly. MARTHA LOOMIS PENTECOST: Herald Loomis’s wife. She is about 28, very religious and a member of the Evangelical church. She left the South and her daughter behind.
