Module development and conducted training workshops for DROs, ROs, and AROs of Local Government Elections in Sindh 2013. Conducted Trainings for District Voter Education Committees throughout Sindh.     Paper on Cyber Law Presented at the 50th Anniversary Celebrations of the Supreme Court of Pakistan International Judicial Conference 11-14 August, 2006 Introduction Only a few years after the explosive advent of the internet on the global scene, Pakistan also became a part of what has become a truly global village. Every community ranging from students, academicians, businesses, the military, government to even the legal and judicial communities are now inextricably connected, networked and dependent on Cyberspace and the Internet. Cyberspace is a term that was coined by William Gibson in his 1984 novel "Neuromancer" and is now used to describe the entire spectrum of computer networks and associated activities that take place over computers and their interconnected networks which in their largest manifestation form the internet. This ‘virtual space’ has no national or jurisdictional boundaries since its ether resides in and interacts with the network of hundreds of thousands if not millions of computers and users at the same time. A legal problem The interconnectivity and the irrelevance of geographical borders can be demonstrated where a person sitting in Karachi may be using an email service in the US from which to agree to the purchase of property in Spain that is owned by a UK business which hosts its website in Ireland. It may be that any one or all of these elements, persons, computers or actions are not in any one geographical location and they may exist or take place in multiple locations at the same time with no discernible priority. Lawrence Lessing identifies this as a problem for the traditional legal rules resulting from the unique nature of the internet and Cyberspace in “The Law of Cyberspace”: "The problem for law is to work out how the norms of the two communities are to apply given that the subject to whom they apply may be in both places at once" Traditionally, the rules of Conflict of Laws and rules for jurisdiction have been used to regulate the cross-border interaction between parties.

Feeley, Chair Since the Islamic resurgence of the 1970s, many Muslim postcolonial countries have established and empowered constitutional courts to declare laws conflicting with shariʿa as unconstitutional. The central question explored in this dissertation is whether and to what extent constitutional doctrine developed in shariʿa review is contingent on the ruling regime or represents lasting trends in interpretations of shariʿa. Using the case of Pakistan, this dissertation contends that the long-term discursive trends in shariʿa are determined in the religio-political space and only reflected in state law through the interaction of shariʿa politics, regime politics, and judicial politics. The research is based on materials gathered during fieldwork in Pakistan and datasets of Federal Shariat Court and Supreme Court cases and judges. In particular, the dissertation offers a political-institutional framework to study shariʿa review in a British postcolonial court system through exploring the role of professional and scholar judges, the discretion of the chief justice, the system of judicial appointments and tenure, and the political structure of appeal that combine to make courts agents of the political regime.

P r efac e Supporting Women to Join Law Enforcement and Judicial System in Sindh is a one year project of Legal Rights Forum under the Gender Equality Program of Aurat Foundation with the financial assistance of USAID. It is an internship program to train and develop professional legal skills in final-year women law students and fresh women law graduates so that they could become Future Women Rights Defenders and combat Gender-Based violence and raise their voice in seeking justice and promoting human rights. In first quarter of this project selection of 40 internees has been completed from Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur. In the first phase LRF conduct the Pre Internship Learning Assessment Survey from these selected internees to identify the problems and changes in the field of law facing by the women fresh law graduates. Furthermore, LRF recognized the key issues of gender discrimination in the legal fraternity and judiciary. Finally it presents way forwards conclusions and recommendations for training of legal professional skills of women fresh law graduates and final year law students. Along with the commercial nucleus; Karachi emerged as a regional educational hub after the partition of the Indian subcontinent in 1947 with several hostel structures and studio apartments. These structures are among the better examples of the pre-colonial and post-colonial architectural influence in the region. Few of them (still surviving) are incorporated in the national list of protected heritage under Sindh Cultural Heritage Preservation Act 1994. This research paper is focused on “the lost importance of the three different hostel (boys’ hostels only) premises in the historic core of the city of Karachi”. Despite possessing similar functions in the past and having the same status of the declared protected heritage at present, each of them has different use and conservation status at present. None of the buildings have endured the original function. This research focuses the reasons of the non-continuation of the original function and the impairments caused to the buildings due to this reason. Methodology followed for the research includes analysis of available archives, physical observation, photographic documentation and interviews with the local inhabitants of the neighbourhood.
