FIREMEN PREPARE FOR THE UNSPEAKABLE ! It was not an emergency. In fact, the Watertown City Fire Chief Dale Harman Battalion Chief Mathew Timmerman and Firefighters Michael Jesmer and Jared Lyndaker joined the department Chaplains on purpose to meet Fr. Chris and tour our churches. ! ! Rev. Canon Samuel P. Lundy, an Anglican Priest and Reverend Leon VanWie, a retired pastor of the United Methodist Church, are the department’s Chaplains. After the fire at Notre Dame in Paris th April 15 , they set out to visit each of the 52 L TO R: Fr. Looby, BC Timmerman and Chief Herman ! churches in the City; get an idea where things are in the buildings and, most importantly, determine from the local priest or minister what items need to be “rescued” if a fire or other emergency strikes. Fr. Looby made sure the firefighters knew how to get to the Eucharist and told them why the presence of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ is of primary importance. ! ! The department entourage went from St. Pat’s to St. Anthony’s. They were to visit Trinity Episcopal next. “We are grateful to the Fire Department for taking the time to learn more about our church buildings and the importance of Christ present in the tabernacles,” Fr. Looby said. “Fr. Sam and Pastor Leon have started an ambitious but incredibly worthwhile project for our churches. God bless them.” ! ! Fr. Lundy (l), Pastor VanWie (c) Chief Herman (r) ! ! Bishop Terry R. LaValley announced the following assignments July 8, 2019. They will be effective August 1, 2019: ! ! Deacon Kevin Mastellon !is appointed Director of Permanent Deacons for the Diocese. Deacon Mastellon remains Deacon Assistant at St. Patrick’s and St. Anthony’s Churches in Watertown. ! ! ! Msgr. Robert H. Aucoin ,!pastor of St. Mary’s Church in Evans Mills and St. Paul’s Church in Black River !is appointed Pastor of St. Mary’s Church in Waddington and St. John the Baptist Church in Madrid. Msgr. Aucoin will remain Episcopal Vicar for Education and the New Evangelization. Msgr. Aucoin is the former pastor of SP and SA. !! Reverend Vicente Jazmines , currently Chaplain at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center in Ogdensburg, is appointed Pastor of St. Mary’s Church in Evans Mills and of St. Paul’s Church in Black River. ! ! ! Seal of Confession: There are currently legislative efforts ! to do away with evidentiary protection for the seal of confession. ! CRUCIFIXES & CROSSES: PART 3 July 14, 2019 15th Sunday of Ordinary Time Today we look at 4 more crosses/crucifixes with particular meanings and traditions attached to them: the Forked, Gnostic, Russian 8:00(SA) Jack Burns by Jo and the Family Orthodox, and Greek Cross. 8:00 (M) Art Burke by the Jank Family 9:30 (SP) Bill Dulmage by Barb O’Brien The Forked Cross dates back to the late Medieval 11:00 (SA) People of the Parishes Era, emerging around the same time as the first Gothic cathedrals in the 14 th -15 th centuries.
