Afterwards, you will proceed with the Zagreb photo city tour starting from the hotel in the city center, leisure walk going through the most beautiful historic part of the Zagreb centre, visiting the Upper town, Lotrscak tower where the famous chinese band was, making stops at the recommended places for taking photos. After the photo tour we will go to a restaurant in city center for dinner and photo review. Overnight in Zagreb center hotel (D) DAY 2 (Sunday) ZAGREB AND SURROUNDINGS Early in the morning, transfer to the place of balloon-location in Zagreb for your first adventure in croatian country. Boarding the balloon and take off for Zagreb and Zagorje region photo session from the air. Our photographer will give you some tips for best pictures. Landing in Zagreb and return to the hotel, where you can have breakfast and comment your journey with your coach. Rest of the morning at leisure. At the given time, departure for lunch at restaurant Okrugljak, a traditional Croatian restaurant. In the afternoon, tour through the beautiful locations in Zagreb - park Maksimir with beautiful lakes and picturesque nature, followed by a visit to the famous Arcade wall in front of the Mirogoj cemetery. We will continue in the evening to mount Sljeme - making stops at the most beautiful locations along the way to the top like medieval city Medvedgrad. Reaching the top of mountain Sljeme you will have the best views to take photos of Zagreb Panorama and Zagorje region on the other side. Transfer to dinner and review of the photos taken. Overnight in Rovinj (B) (L) (D) DAY 4 (Tuesday) ROVINJ - NATIONAL PARK BRIJUNI AND TOWN PULA – ROVINJ Breakfast at the hotel. Departure towards the town Fažana for boarding the boat that will drive us to the National Park Brijuni Archipelago. After a photo session, we will get back to the boat and continue to Veliki Brijun island - the most beloved summer residence of the historic figure Tito - the former communist party leader of Yugoslavia. Arrival to the Old harbor of Brijuni island and photo session. Afterwards we will start a ride with the train/bus to the Brijuni Safari with exotic animals brought during Tito´s reign. Lunch at the restaurant of hotel Neptun at island Brijuni. Departure by boat to Fažana harbor and then, transfer to town Pula for a photo session of the historic Roman city center and going inside the magnificent Roman amphitheater, second largest after the one in Rome. Transfer to the restaurant in proximity of Rovinj. Overnight in Rovinj hotel (B) (L) (D) DAY 5 (Wednesday) ISLAND OF ISTRIA REGION - TOWNS GROŽNJAN MOTOVUN Truffel tasting Departure for inland of Istria for photo session visiting the medieval town Grožnjan at the top of the hill, for beautiful photo shots of the old city and the panorama of Istria. Transfer to the next medieval town Motovun atop the hill for a fantastic 360-degree overview of Istria and the vineyards located at its hills. Departure for Karlić truffles Estate -truffles are the most famous product of Istria region-. Photo session atop the hill of panorama of Istria and truffle tasting with lunch. In the afternoon, we will take a ride to the Lim Fjord. Time at leisure to explore the island on your own. During dinner at restaurant Viking we will see your best pictures of the day and curate the best of the group. Continue boarding the boat for an evening ride through the Lim fjord to Rovinj and transfer to the hotel. Overnight (B) (L) (D) DAY 6 (Thursday) ROVINJ - NATIONAL PARK PLITVICE LAKES - ZADAR Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer towards Rastoke and National park Plitvice lakes for sightseeing. In Rastoke we will stop at the waterfalls for a photo session and then continue to the Plitvice lakes wit stops at the best locations for a photo session, using boat and train ride as part of the program. After the visit to the Plitvice lakes we will go to the Restaurant Degenija for lunch. Afterwards, departure towards the south coastal part of Croatia. Arrival later afternoon at resort hotel Crvena Luka near town Zadar. After registration, free time for taking evening photos of the bay, Adriatic sea and the natural forest surrounding the resort. Time for swimming or just walking on the area. Before dinner, meet the rest of the group at the beach bar at the resort. Dinner at resort Crvena luka at a special venue and if we have a good weather, we will have dinner outdoors. Photo review and tips from our photographer. Overnight in hotel at Crvena luka resort (B) (L) (D) DAY 7 (Friday) ZADAR - SPLIT After breakfast at the hotel, departure for Split. Once in the city, we will have a photo session in the city center, visiting the Diocletian palace, palace cellars, historic monuments, city promenade, Marjan hill and forest panorama view. Lunch at restaurant Grašo overlooking the Adriatic Sea. In the afternoon, transfer to the traditional winery with grape hills overlooking the sea for a light wine tasting program with photo session of the Kastela bay. Transfer to town Trogir for an evening photo session of the Old town and city Fort at the Old town coastal promenade. Continue to the hotel in Split for registration and short break. Your local guide will take you later to the restaurant Bajamonti in Split city center for dinner.     30 PART 1.: AN OVERVIEW OF THE STATE OF BIOLOGICAL AND LANDSCAPE DIVERSITY IN CROATIA Threats to biological communities in the Adriatic Anthropogenic impacts pose a constant threat to living communities in shallow coastline areas. This primarily refers to building works carried out on the coast, to backfilling and consequential mudding of some parts of the sea, to solid waste disposal and particularly to pollution by unpurified waste waters of municipal and industrial origin. These factors pose threat to living communities of supralittoral and mediolittoral zones, and especially meadows of sea flowers Posidonia oceanica and Zostera marina (Box 27) belonging to communities of the infralittoral zone. A highly intensive process of filling up the coastal sea with diverse building and earthworks wastes is adversely affecting the settlements of various algae of genus Cystoseria, including the settlements of the endemic brown alga Adriatic wrack (Fig. 46) that has almost completely disappeared from some polluted parts of the Adriatic (western coast of Istria, Split, etc.). The degradation of ecological balance of benthonic ecosystems is also a result of excessive fishing for economic and sport reasons, including the ravaging of individual divers. In the shallow sea man particularly threatens the complex communities of photophilous algae and meadows of Posidonia oceanica, while in the depths of the sea the communities of the detrital bottom are most threatened due to consequences of natural stress conditions, and the communities of the muddy bottom due to excessive trawling. The immigration (or introduction) of the tropical green algae Caulerpa in the northern Mediterranean in 1984 represents another threat to biological diversity of the Figure 48.

AN ROMAN PERIOD SHIPWRECK WITH A CARGO OF AMPHORAE ROMaN PeRIOD ShIPWRecK IN The ČaVLIN ShaLLOWS There are several hundred Roman pe- riod shipwrecks in the Croatian part of the Adriatic Sea, the majority of which are devastated, but about a dozen of which have survived the ravages of time and unethical looters. They have been preserved intact, or with only minor damage, which offers underwater archaeologists an oppor- tunity for complete research. The very large number of Roman ship- wrecks is not unexpected, but speaks rather of the intensity of trade and importance of navigation on the eastern side of the Adriatic Sea, and of the dangers our sea hides. Roman period shipwrecks can be dated either by the type of cargo they carried or by some further analysis (the age of the wood, for example), and the datings range from the 4th century BC to the 6th century. The cargos of these ships were varied: from fine pot- tery, vessels and plates, stone construction elements and brick to the most frequent cargo – amphorae. The amphora was used as packag- ing from the period of the Greece colonisation to the late Roman and the Byzantine supremacy. There are remains of shipwrecks with cargos of amphorae that can be researched on the seabed, covered by Archaeological underwater excavation with the aid of a water dredge protective iron cages, and there are those that, as per documentation, need to be raised to the surface and presented on land.

UNJE The small island of Unje is strikingly green and wildly overgrown with sage, rockro- se, laurel, lavender, rosemary and thyme. Especially in spring it smells wonderful. The few inhabitants live in the only town, their houses are aligned circularly towards the sea. Trails lead across the entire island and to the two lighthouses. Susak Susak is a small, gently rolling island with only 3.7 km². In Susak time seems to have stood still. The streets are lined with flowering shrubs and well maintained. The island has great sandy coves. It is best to anchor in Porat or to moor in the harbor of Susak.

    Hrvatski jadranski otoci, otočići i hridi Sika od Mondefusta, Palagruţa Mjerenja obale istoĉnog Jadrana imaju povijest; svi autori navode prvi cjelovitiji popis otoka kontraadmirala austougarske mornarice Sobieczkog (Pula, 1911.). Glavni suvremeni izvor dugo je bio odliĉni i dosad još uvijek najsustavniji pregled za cijelu jugoslavensku obalu iz godine 1955. [1955].1 Na osnovi istraţivanja skupine autora, koji su ponovo izmjerili opsege i površine hrvatskih otoka i otoĉića većih od 0,01 km2 [2004],2 u Ministarstvu mora, prometa i infrastrukture je zatim 2007. godine objavljena opseţna nova graĊa, koju sad moramo smatrati referentnom [2007].3 No, i taj pregled je manjkav, ponajprije stoga jer je namijenjen specifiĉnom administrativnom korištenju, a ne »statistici«. Drugi problem svih novijih popisa, barem onih objavljenih, jest taj da ne navode sve najmanje otoĉiće i hridi, iako ulaze u konaĉne brojke.4 Brojka 1244, koja je sada najĉešće u optjecaju, uopće nije dokumentirana.5 Osnovni izvor za naš popis je, dakle, [2007], i u graniĉnim primjerima [2004]. U napomenama ispod tablica navedena su odstupanja od tog izvora. U sljedećem koraku pregled je dopunjen podacima iz [1955], opet s obrazloţenjima ispod crte.     REPORT ZAGREB MUSEUMS SUFFER HEAVY DAMAGES IN THE RECENT EARTHQUAKE THAT HIT THE CITY DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC RESTRICTIONS When disasters strike, we are always reminded how emergency preparedness is a crucial procedure that every institution has to take care about. We are also reminded how vulnerable we are and how fragile our heritage is. Only a month ago the international conference on risk management held in Dubrovnik and organised by the Ministry of Culture within the Croatian EU presidency showed numerous threats, including those for museums, that have to be addressed by authorities and experts showed what should be done to reduce existing risks. However, when a real thing occurs, we can testify how poorly we are prepared. All the weaknesses became obvious and we can clearly see what the biggest challenges are and what a long-lasting neglect to invest in prevention can do. A strong 5.5 magnitude earthquake hit Zagreb at 6.24 on Sunday, March 22nd 2020. Luckily the streets of Croatia’s capital were empty and all institutions closed thus human casualties were avoided except a 15-year old girl who died from severe injuries caused by falling objects. Only a few seconds transformed the historic centre of Zagreb. Fallen facades and chimneys, damaged roofs, crashed vehicles that were parked on the streets were piling on a demolished property-lists. The town centre, which is home to many Croatian museums, was hit in the worst way. Buildings with poor construction could not resist the earthquake in spite that the magnitude was not the highest.
