In training, you learn to shape conflicts in such a way that neither you nor your opponent will be harmed.

CAPOEIRA Capoeira is a martial art whose origin can be found in Brazil. Its special feature is that it combines both martial and acrobatic-dancing ele- ments and is accompanied by self-made music. Capoeira is the ideal sport to strengthen the whole body, increase flexibility and reduce aggression. The versatile martial art includes movement sequences, acrobatics and music.

Activities of the EDSU We create a sign language space for students, in the form of seminars and workshops that take place every two years in many different countries. At these seminars and workshops, students can exchan- ge experiences and information on the topic of everyday life as a deaf person at the university and can act across the borders of their studies. This can be seen as a peer group. Students also have the opportunity to exchange tips and tricks on study-relevant issues such as homework, final theses or even doctoral theses.

Got curious? If you want to know more or want to support us, please contact us: [email protected]. We are looking forward to your message. Of course you can also contact me at the university.

EUROPEAN DEAF STUDENTS UNION (EDSU)

Hello dear readers,

I am … Picture: Inna Shparber Inna Shparber. I am a deaf student in the Social Work: transnational and now in my seventh semester.

What do I do? Since April 2019 I am honorary first chairperson of an NGO, the EDSU - European Deaf Students‘ Union. I will take over this position for the next two years with another chairperson and two assessors. Two of them are from Italy and one from Austria. It is great to work together with the different countries, so we exchange many different experien- ces, interests and opinions.

What is EDSU? The EDSU represents deaf and hearing impaired female students throughout Europe and was founded in 2015. There are many different difficulties in Europe for deaf students, such as funding and recogni- tion of sign language interpreters in local universities. Our mission is to advocate for the rights of deaf students at national and European level, such as equal access to universities. Campus Life 81 CAMPUS CULTURE 82
