Patrons can build their own sandwich by first choosing the Granada Market’s special includes any sandwich, Zapp’s chips, and drink for $7.49 or a half sandwich, chips, drink and choice of small soup or salad for $6.99. A variety of salads, pastas and cooked entrees are also available. Diners can choose from a menu of seven combo specials each $6.99. The specials feature such items as Moroccan rice and chicken served with Greek salad or beef lasagna and Greek salad. I started off with the Greek Tour: hummos, dolmas, tabouli and pita bread. I really liked the tabouli which is a salad made with parsley, cucumbers, onion, tomato and bulgur (a rice- like grain). It had a very balanced, healthy taste. For those of you who don’t speak vegetarian, the dolmas are grape leaves stuffed with rice, and hummos is a pureed chickpea dip. I found the dolmas a little too healthy and green tasting. Instead of the usually bland uneventful flavor associated with hummos, the Market’s hummos has a tart, lemony taste. Next, I tried something a little less meatless: chicken parmesan. To make this dish, the cooks started with a very nice chicken breast. Covered with tomato sauce and fresh mozzarella cheese, the chicken is moist and well cooked. Finally, I tried the Pasta Plate, which is a selection of any three pastas. I chose ziti pesto, Greek with feta cheese, and Oriental pasta. Each of the pastas is self-explanatory; the name says it all. The pasta itself is firm and nicely cooked. Ziti pesto and Greek with feta are both meatless. The Oriental pasta has nice sized pieces of spicy chicken mixed in. A number of desserts were also on hand. Chocolate cake, tiramisu, dulce de leche cake, flan and three types of cheesecake each $3.45 can tempt the most determined dieter. I tried the baklava $.99; it is light, sweet, nutty and really great. The Granada Market offers a number of items such as salads, pastas, wraps and desserts prepackaged for those in a hurry. Granada Market is filled with treasures for the connoisseur. Fine cigars, gourmet mineral waters, specialty root beers, hard to find candies, and a variety of coffees are a few of the items that await the discerning palate.
