Like us Uxbridge are currently undefeated in league games to date and we are only separated in the league table with a slightly better goal difference and occupy fourth and fifth positions respectively (Cheshunt having just moved above us both having played a game more). Games between us have usually been very close affairs and things are certainly looking to be in that direction currently. Our trip to Kempston Rovers on Saturday ended in defeat although I think that a draw would have been a fairer outcome based on the game itself. Neither goalkeeper have very much to do with both sets of defenders keeping the attacking players at bay but I consider that the reason this was possible for Kempston to come out on top was largely due to the 4 suspensions that had come our way from the previous week’s matches. When – oh when - will the players learn that the effects of their actions on the pitch (even after the final whistle) will suffer consequences not just for them but the club and their colleagues too? Let’s hope that this lesson will have the required effect and not be repeated! This Saturday is a very rare one in that we do not have a game but on Tuesday next we travel to Ware to play the game originally scheduled for last Saturday Many thanks for coming this evening and now for my usual closing plea to get behind the lads and support at all times – it really does make a difference and will do throughout the season! Terry Staines, Chairman WELCOME TO OUR NEW DIGITAL PROGRAMME The Directors of Marlow Football Club have taken the bold decision to replace our traditional printed programme with a new digital version of the programme. There are several factors that have led us to taking this step and we understand that it will be quite a change for many of our supporters who have been purchasing printed programmes for many years, but we believe that it is the way forward for programmes for non-league football. Perhaps the biggest change of all is that the digital programme will be distributed free of charge. Over the coming weeks we will be adding new ways to download programme from different channels – our club website, Facebook, Twitter and from QR codes that will be displayed at the ground. This will enable you to get the programme on your smartphone, tablet, laptop or PC – the choice is yours. With this new approach our programme will now be available to a much larger audience and can be shared freely to anyone who would like a copy. The digital programme is in PDF format and is sized to be readable on a wide range of devices and screen sizes. To get the best experience I recommend that you import the digital programme to your eBook reader. We have tested the programme with iBooks (the built-in app on the iPhone & iPad), with Google Play Books (on Android), as well as Kindle, although there are many different apps you can use. The programme is intended to use the built-in auto-rotate feature, particularly when viewing the tables. If you experience and problems with this, make sure it is enabled on your device. I hope you enjoy our new digital programme and would welcome your feedback and any suggestions for how we can make enhancements. I would also ask for you to contribute new content. To keep the programme fresh and interesting to read, we need you to contribute new content, so if you are a budding journalist and would like to write an article or maybe even a new column, please get in touch. MATCH REPORT – MARLOW vs FC ROMANIA 15/9/18 VICTORY OVER FC ROMANIA LIFTS BLUES TO 3 PLACES IN LEAGUE TABLE By Terry Staines The three points gained from this victory over a side new to the league and making their first visit to Oak Tree Road lifted the Blues to third place in the table - still undefeated and with only one goal conceded, although Cheshunt’s win at the weekend while we were occupied in the cup has pushed us down a place. The benefit of an early goal allowed them to settle early on against a side that were always looking to play good, passing, football but the superior fitness of the Blues began to show as the game progressed and had an increasing part to play in the outcome, and a late flare up saw the Blues have two players dismissed against one for the visitors, but the deficiency in numbers failed to hand any sort of advantage to them. It was in the 11h minute that Marlow took the lead following some excellent play from Charlie Samuel who cut in from the left to get past his marker and then pulled the ball back into a dangerous central area where Kamaron English gratefully took advantage of the pass and slammed the ball into the net. Although the visitors continued to play in an attractive manner they rarely threatened the Marlow defence although just past the half hour a follow-up shot did go close in hitting a Marlow post and going behind. Samuel has a good opportunity to increase the lead on half time but a weak shot with his right foot failed to do so with Callum Gallimore seeing the visiting keeper deflect his shot behind for a corner in time added on. The visiting keeper continued to be the busier of the two keepers and diverted another shot behind eight minutes into the second period as the Blues continued to look the more likely to grab the next goal and two minutes later the opportunity arrived when Junaid Bell went down in the penalty area and the referee awarded the resultant penalty. Up stepped skipper Chris Ovenden who duly despatched the spot kick in similar fashion to the one on Tuesday night that put the Blues through in the FA cup replay against Aylesbury United and that was that - another welcomed victory for the Boys in Blue. Twenty-five minutes later the numbers on the pitch were reduced in an incident that took an absolute age to sort out and circumstances that are still far from clear.
