Good afternoon, and welcome back to Woking Park for our second and third home league games of the season, and we delighted to host both Towns, Hertford and Hanwell, for these games; we hope that you enjoy your day out, our facilities and hospitality, and have a safe journey home. We would like to extend a particularly warm welcome to our Match Officials and all those who have travelled over from Hertford and Hanwell for today’s games. Hertford Town started this season with a narrow defeat, 1-0 at home to Maldon & Tiptree in the FA Cup, and then picked up an unexpected 2-1 victory on the opening league Saturday at Tooting & , early goals from Girsawek Jagdev and David Ogbonna in the first half, reduced by Jake Rose, but they held on for 3 points. They were without a game last weekend, and are currently seventh in the league table. Hanwell meanwhile have had a great start to the season, with progress in the FA Cup (4-1 at home to Spelthorne Sports, 1-0 at Haywards Heath, they now face our old friends Hartley Wintney this Saturday in Qualifying Round 2), a 2-0 win at Witham Town in the Trophy last Saturday and a home game vs Averley on 17th, and a league victory (1-0 Dwayne Duncan) at home to Bedfont Sports a couple of weeks ago. They have already scored 8 goals in 5 games, so we need to be aware of the threat from striker Gareth Chendlik in particular; he scored 17 times last season with a couple already this time out. Westfield have begun the season better than many had expected. After the close defeat to Frimley on penalties in the FA Cup, the young lads have really taken to their task well, 3-0 at home to Northwood and a comfortable 4-1 win at Chipstead last Saturday have provided some much needed confidence, as well as points on the board. Both Aderi Dede (4 goals) and Darnell Goather-Braithwaite (3) are looking lively and keen to impress. We are also delighted to welcome larger numbers of fans into Woking Park this season, as the ability to watch higher level football is inevitable disrupted by the ongoing pandemic. In these unusual times, if we could ask you to respect the government guidelines, and consider your social distancing and regular use of hand sanitiser, this will I’m sure mean that we all have an enjoyable afternoon. As required by FA and Government guidelines, we have produced a risk assessment which you will find on our website. John Comer’s reserve side have had just the one competitive game so far this season, losing a league cup tie 4-2 at home to Yateley United last weekend, but now have a series of four league games this month, starting at Watlington Town this Saturday (3rd). Their next home game is on Saturday (10th) vs Flackwell Heath, 3pm kick-off. Our U18 team have done well in the FA Youth Cup so far, winning on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Seaford Town three weeks ago, but sadly losing (4-3 on penalties) at Pagham last Thursday after an admirable 3-3 draw. They too have four league games coming up this month, the first at home to Cove, 19:45pm on Monday 12th. Enjoy the game, Neil Collins Programme Editor

To our volunteers, fans, sponsors and everyone who helps to support the Club at each game - WE THANK YOU ALL WELCOME to our visitors HERTFORD TOWN FC

The club was established in 1901 as Port Vale Rovers but were soon renamed Hertford Football Club to gain recognition as the town's main club. Following a merger with Hertford United, the club was renamed Hertford Town. After absorbing two more clubs – Blue Cross and Horns – in 1908, the club joined the Eastern Division of the Hertfordshire Senior County League for the 1908–09 season, which saw them finish as runners-up. League reorganisation in 1909 saw Hertford placed in the Central Division. They finished bottom of the division in its first season, before they were moved back into the Eastern Division in 1910. The club was also playing in the East Herts League, which they won in 1912–13. The following season saw the club retain the East Herts League title and finish second in the Eastern Division of the Hertfordshire Senior County League. After switching to the League for the 1920–21 season, the club joined Division One of the in 1921. Following league reorganisation in 1928, Hertford were placed in Division One East, with an eleventh- place finish seeing them moved to Division One the following season when a Premier Division was created. In 1938–39 Hertford were Division One runners-up and promoted to the Premier Division. However, the following season was abandoned due to World War II and when the league restarted in 1945, Hertford were placed in the Central Division, finishing bottom of the table in the 1945–46 season.[7] Despite their poor performance, the club were placed in the Premier Division the following season, but went on to finish bottom of the table again. The club lost the use of its ground in 1947 and left the league for a season before returning to the Spartan League in 1948, when they were placed in Division One East. After winning the division in 1949– 50, they were promoted back to the Premier Division in 1950 and were runners-up in 1955–56 and 1956–57. In 1959 Hertford transferred to the Delphian League and were runners-up in their first season. They went on to win back-to-back league titles in 1960–61 and 1961–62. The 1962–63 season was abandoned due to bad weather, but Hertford won both the League Cup and the Eastern Section of the emergency competition, going on to lose the title decider to Western Section Champions Edmonton 5–2 on aggregate. They also won the East Anglian Cup by beating Boston United 1–0 in the final, a match played at home in front of a 3,000 crowd. When the Delphian League was disbanded at the end of the season, Hertford joined the new Division Two of the alongside most of the other former Delphian League clubs. A fourth-place finish in 1963–64 was enough to earn promotion to Division One at the first attempt and the club went on to win the league's Memorial Shield in 1967–68. Hertford switched to the Eastern Counties League in 1972. They won the League Cup and finished third in the league in their first season, but left to join the newly-formed Division Two of the Isthmian League. The division was renamed Division One in 1977, and the club were relegated to Division Two North after finishing bottom of the table in 1984–85. League restructuring in 1991 saw the club placed in Division Three. They were promoted to Division Two after finishing runners-up in 1998–99, but were relegated the following season. Further league restructuring saw Hertford placed in Division One North in 2002, but they finished bottom of the table in the division's inaugural season and were relegated to Division Two. HERTFORD TOWN FC - History continued PLAYERS and MANAGEMENT

After the division was disbanded in 2006, they joined the Premier Division of the Spartan . The club were Premier Division runners-up in 2016–17 and were promoted to Division One North of the Isthmian League after Colney turned down promotion. For 2018-19 Hertford moved sidewards to the newly-formed South Central Division but the season was a difficult one, with 3 managers at the helm and close shave with relegation. Ex-pro Ben Herd and a new committee took over in the summer of 2019 and have fashioned a new-look side and club with a greater emphasis on bringing through young players via the manager’s successful football academy.

Hanwell Town was originally founded in 1920 by a team of ‘Geordies’ working in the area and it is believed that this explains the black and white striped colours which are still used today. The club were in the from 1924 to 1927 and it was in this period that they won their first major honour, sharing with Roxeth and Harrow Old Boys the Middlesex F.A Junior Charity Cup in 1926. Little else is known about the club before their disbandment at the outset of the second world war. The club reformed in 1947/1948 playing in the Dauntless League where they climbed up through the divisions earning promotion in four successive seasons. Whilst remaining in the Dauntless League with a third eleven, the club switched allegiance to the Harrow Wembley and District League where they remained until 1969/1970. During their period in the Harrow and Wembley League the club reached eight cup finals in various league and county competitions and each time finished on the losing side. In 1970/1971 the club gained promotion to the Middlesex County League and in their very first season the club won the League cup, the side being captained by the club's current chairman Bob Fisher. The club remained in the Middlesex County League throughout the 1970’s playing at Ealing Central Sports Ground, their home for over twenty years but in June 1981 they achieved their ambition of obtaining a ground of their own when they moved to the then derelict Reynolds Field, their current home. Thanks to a small group of volunteers the ground was able to be used from the start of the 1981/1982 season and the club was granted Senior status for the commencement of the 1983-84 season. This enabled them to join The London Spartan League and they immediately won the Senior Division to gain promotion to the Premier Division where they remained until the amalgamation of the Spartan League with the South Midlands League in 1997/1998. During this period the club enjoyed considerable cup success winning The in 1991/1992 and 1992/1993 and being losing finalists in 1993/1994.They also reached the final of the Spartan League cup in 1993/1994 and after drawing with Willesden Hawkeye at The Valley, home of Charlton Athletic F.C, they were beaten in the replay at the start of the following season. In 1992/1993 they reached the final of the Middlesex Senior Charity Cup where they lost to Harrow Borough at Uxbridge F.C. after extra time. They reached the final of the same competition in 2000/2001 when they were again beaten, this time by Ashford Town (Middx). In 1997/1998,their position of 12th in the League meant that in the first season of the Spartan South Midlands League in 1998/1999 that they would be required to play in the Senior Division. At the end of the 1997/1998 season Roy Nairn who had managed the side since the 1986/1987 season stood down to be replaced by former player Ray Duffy with Roy continuing his association with the club in a coaching capacity. The side immediately gained promotion to the Premier Division finishing in runners up spot to Holmer Green .Both clubs finishing with the same number of points but with Holmer Green boasting a much better goal difference. Following this promotion the club maintained a top half position in the League table in each season except for one in the following seven seasons. In 2002/2003 the club won the Premier Division Cup when they beat Harefield United in the final, their first cup success in ten years. HANWELL TOWN FC - History continued

In the same season to celebrate Roy Nairn's twenty years service to the club, Chelsea sent a side to meet the club at the start of the season. The Town ran out 5-3 winners with two of the goals being scored by Martin Rowlands of Brentford & QPR and Chris Boothe of Farnborough Town, both of whom having started their careers at the club during Roy's period of managership. The Rowlands's family have very strong links with the club with dad Arthur having played for the club in the 1982/1983 season and since then all five of his sons, Adam, Keith, Martin, Stephen and Anthony have worn the club's colours with Keith, now the club's record goalscorer. In 2004/2005, the club led The Premier Division for much of the season only to suffer a dramatic loss of form in the final weeks of the season which allowed Potters Bar Town to finish as comfortable League winners with the Town in second place. In season 2005-06 with promotion to level 4 a key objective, the club managed to finish in third place just edging out Harefield United on goal difference. Two thirds of the way through that season Ray Duffy resigned and was replaced as joint managers by his former assistant Danny Vincent and former player Pat Gavin. Third place enabled Town to win promotion to The British Gas Business Southern League for the 2006/2007 season. However, Town's stay in the Southern League only lasted one season as they finished second from bottom and were relegated back to the Molten Spartan South Midlands League . During their stay in the Southern League, Town parted company with the management team of Vincent and Gavin with the reins being taken over by former player Chris Boothe, who himself resigned at the end of the 2007-08 season. The club finished in seventh place in the Premier Division of the Molten Spartan South Midlands League in the 2008-09 season and in 12th place in the 2009-10 season. There was a further change in the managerial team at the start of the 2010-11 season with Boysie Wise departing and Jason Tucker stepping into the role of assistant manager to the club’s leading goalscorer Keith Rowlands. After a very promising start to the season, the side fell away drastically at the end of the season eventually finishing in fifteenth position, the lowest spot that they have occupied since gaining promotion to the division at the end of the 1998-99 season. The club continued to struggle in the 2011-2012 season and mid way through the season, the club reluctant- ly accepted the resignations of club stalwarts Rowlands and Tucker. They were replaced by a new managerial team of Tommy Williams and Luke Evans. Despite results improving, the club were unable to climb out of the relegation zone and faced relegation but the demise of clubs at level 4, resulted in Town being reprieved from relegation. At the end of the season both Williams and Evans resigned their managerial roles and the club turned again to Ray Duffy to hold the managerial reins for the 2012-13 season. He was aided by Mark Adams and Vince Perdue. The club enjoyed a successful season finishing in 6th position and looked forward to the challenge that a new season would bring. Season 2013-2014 turned out be the most successful in the club's history as they won The Spartan South Midlands League by a margin of 14 points over Ampthill Town. They were beaten just once in their 42 games, drawing 6 and winning the other 35 with a goal difference of +91, having found the net 127 times and conceding just 36. HANWELL TOWN FC - History continued

They also reached the fifth round of the FA Vase for the first time in their history, losing 3-1 to league rivals Ampthill Town after extra time having had to play their fourth round tie against Ashford Town just 36 hours previously on the Thursday evening. Promoted back to the Southern League Central Division, the 2014-15 season proved to be another very successful season for the club as playing at their highest ever level and aware that there only previous season as a level Four club had resulted in immediate relegation, they not only held their own but finished in seventh place, just outside of the play offs. They also reached the final of The for the first time in their history, a penalty in the final minutes proving to be a 1-0 defeat to Harrow Borough . Unfortunately, club manager Ray Duffy tendered his resignation at the end of the season so the club started afresh in Season 2015-2016 under the managerial reins of Phil Granville, a former player and manager of Uxbridge FC and more recently manager at Harefield United. However, things did not work out as expected and Granville was relieved of his duties at around Christmas and Duffy, fresh from his break, returned to take up the reins. It proved to be a stressful run in to the end of the season and only two 1-0 wins in the space of forty eight hours against Uxbridge and Ware respectively prevented the club from being relegated. With the management team having had the time to rebuild the squad over the close season, the 2016/17 season proved to be one in which the club held a relatively comfortable mid table position throughout and hopes are high that the 2017/18 would see the club finish higher up the table. However it was not to be with the club finishing too close to the bottom of the table for comfort. At the end of the season, manager Ray Duffy who had been involved in 997 games for the club as either a player or a manager tendered his resignation and the club commence the 2019/20 season with joint managers in Chris Moore and Wayne Carter. Since arriving at Reynolds Field, the club have steadily improved the facilities with the installation of floodlights in 1989 , the erection of a small stand and more recently, thanks to a grant from The Football Foundation, the erection of a stand and toilets for disabled persons. During 2005-2006 to ensure that the club met 's ground grading requirements, the seating capacity of the stand was extended to 180 seats and covered terracing was erected behind one of the goals. That this work was possible was entirely due to the generousity of the club's president Dave Iddiols and the club's then sponsor Gowing & Pursey Ltd. Tottenham Hotspur led by Republic of Ireland international and former Brighton and Hove Manager Chris Hughton and managed by former England goalkeeper Ray Clemence were Town’s first opponents under lights and since then Spurs again, Chelsea, Brentford and QPR have all played games on the ground. At the end of the 2004/2005 season club chairman Bob Fisher was awarded a medallion by The Football Association in recognition of his fifty years service to the club and very recently, Bob, completed sixty years service at the club, a remarkable achievement, which was recognised by the club in naming the stand after him. The club have a thriving Youth Section and this season will be fielding over 20 Youth sides, Both the Senior Club and Youth section has achieved charter standard and are highly regarded in the county and the local community. HANWELL TOWN FC - PLAYERS 2020-21

GARETH CHENDLIK - Forward. Gareth joined us at the start of last season from Wanderers having previously played for Hemel Hempstead Town, Harrow Borough and Leighton Town. He became a firm favourite of the club's fans with his committed play and finished the season as the club's leading goal scorer. GIANNI CRICHLOW - Forward. Gianni came to our attention with his skill and pace when playing for Hendon under 23's against the club last season. He spent eight years in the academy at QPR and he is sure to be a fan's favourite with his direct style of play. DWAYNE DUNCAN - Central Defender. Dwayne joined the club midway through last season and immediately became a regular first team selection with his command of the back four. He had previously played for Chesham United, Potters Bar Town and Harpenden Town. Remarkably as a central defender he scored 15 goals for Harpenden in the 2017-18 season. JOEL JACOBS - Full back. Joel was a regular member of the Bracknell Town side that just missed out on promotion last season. He brings a wealth of experience to the side having previously played, other than for Bracknell Town, for Egham Town, Ashford Town (Middx), Chalfont St Peter and North Greenford United. A dead ball specialist with his sweet left foot !! HARVEY KILLEEN - Forward. Harvey is a product of our Youth system having joined the club at 14 and at the age of 16 was a regular in our Under 18 squad and then moved up into the First team squad. He was a member of the Brentford Academy before it closed down. A very clever player who is a lot stronger than his slender frame suggests. He has trialed at QPR but injury halted his progress and trialed again this season before returning to complete pre-season with the club. We all hope that he enjoys an injury free season. ROB LANEY - Forward. Another former Hanwell Town player who has returned to the club after a long spell at Wingate & Finchley, A very industrious player and a proven goal scorer. ANDREW O'BRIEN - Defender. A tall and strong resolute defender who joined from Greystones United FC in Ireland last season having moved over to take a job with The Football Association. His claim to fame is that he appeared on Liverpool FC TV when he was gifted a pair of size 11 boots by Virgil Van Dijk !! TERLOCHLAN SINGH - Midfield. A very experienced and capable midfield player who has joined the club this season. HUGO SOPTE - Goalkeeper. A new signing after four seasons with Windsor whom he captained and for whom he made over 175 appearances. Previous to that he was with Hayes & and was part of their match day squad when they were in Conference South. CALLUM WOODCOCK - Forward. A new signing from Chalfont St Peter having previously played for Chesham United for whom he played twenty first team games having progressed through the Under 18 set up. He has excited in pre-season and we are anxious to see what he brings to the side. HANWELL TOWN FC - PLAYERS and MANAGEMENT 2020-21

JACK WALDREN - Full Back. Joined at the start of the 2018-19 season having previously played for Hemel Hempstead, Harrow Borough and Kings Langley. Has impressed everybody with his speed down the left flank and his dead ball expertise with his trusted left foot. Unfortunately, he suffered a severe leg injury last season which meant that he missed most of the latter part of the season. Now back to full strength he will make a significant contribution to the team. OGUCHUKWU OBI - Forward. The latest signing as he has recently joined from Hayes & Yeading. Has made an immediate impression with a hat trick against Waltham Abbey.

CHRIS MOORE - Joint Manager. Started the 2017/18 season as the Egham Town manager with Wayne Carter as his assistant. This role ended in January 2018 and he decided to restart his playing career at Hanwell. He made 16 appearances for Brentford as a full time professional and also played for Dagenham & Redbridge, Northwood and Uxbridge for whom in three different spells he made over 200 appearances. At the end of the 2018-19 season together with his colleague Wayne Carter took over the managerial role from his predecessor Ray Duffy who had clocked up over 950 games in charge. Since taking over the managerial reins with Wayne has impressed everybody with his enthusiasm and professionalism. WAYNE CARTER - Joint Manager. Joined the club in February 2018 following his departure from Egham Town where he was working alongside Chris Moore in a coaching role whilst continuing his playing career. He then appeared in every game until the end of that season . He made limited appearances last season and is not likely to feature too often in this season's line up. A vastly experienced player with enormous ability on the ball. he has played for a number of clubs in his career including Wealdstone, Northwood, Hendon and Uxbridge. Since his arrival, he has impressed everybody with his passion and dedication to the club.

STUART EVERLEY - Physio. Stuart was coaxed out of retirement by the managerial team having spent almost his entire career with Uxbridge. Having thoroughly enjoyed his first season with the club, he is not quite ready to retire (again) just yet. DEAN SMITH - Coach. Dean works for The Premier League and is a fully qualified coach with a very large amount of experience. His role elsewhere limits his time with the club but he has been a huge help to the management team during pre-season. PAUL RIORDAN - Goalkeeping Coach A former goalkeeper for the Town and then for Northwood FC. Has just joined the management team. FA TROPHY NEWS

IT’S DIFFICULT to know what to write about sometimes in these programme columns we send out each week. Do people want to hear views on the big issues around the game? Are you flicking through a programme for some light-hearted reading at half-time? It feels like everything has been a bit serious recently. And rightfully so. Clubs up and down are worried about the future. What makes it harder, in this Covid pandemic, is a lot of the things we are worrying about when it comes to Non- League football are largely out of everyone’s control. While clubs can put the right protocols in place, if the government suddenly decide no fans then there’s not much that can be done about it. It’s a frustrating time for all, perhaps summed up by the situation this weekend in the FA Cup where Step 2 fans aren’t allowed to watch their team play live, be it home or away. At the time of writing, there is still great uncertainty for National League clubs about their kick-off. They will be behind closed doors but with almost no exceptions, that will only work if there is sufficient support from the Government or the Premier League. All we really want is to watch our teams play again. That goes for every club throughout the pyramid. Those who already have fans in want to make sure the gates stay open. Perhaps this tricky period reminds us why we started watching Non-League football in the first place. The thought sprung to mind from last week’s NLP where our new columnist Tony Incenzo – talkSPORT’s journalist and Non-League expert – about the importance of getting young fans through the doors. Tony recounts how his mum used to drop him and a friend at the gates of Hendon and would return at 4.45pm to pick them up knowing they will have had an enjoyable, and safe, afternoon watching their local side. From their Tony’s passion for these levels of the game soared and, anyone who follows him on twitter, will know just how many grounds he has visited over the years. It got me to thinking about my own involvement in the game. My Dad is the one to blame, Heavily involved in Non-League football, I probably had no choice. But I loved going down to a ground, smelling the liniment waft from the changing rooms before standing so close to the action soaking it all in. I enjoyed watching Premier League football, like any other kid, but really Non-League was the place to be. That then morphed into regularly watching Farnborough Town with friends before, in our teenage years, that transformed into away games as well. We’d hop on the train early in the morning and headed off to far flung destinations like Hitchin, and St Albans. It’s only a few years later when you start driving that you realise these places are not that far away at all. But that was our Saturdays. Stopping at McDonalds on the way to the ground. Stopping there again on the way back to the station. Navigating our way through Clapham Junction and eventually arriving back home tired but fulfilled. That’s what Covid has shown me, anyway. How much I enjoy being at a game with other people and soaking it all in. How I enjoy going to a game with my Dad, who kick-started my love affair with Non-League in the first place. And, with that, I’m off tonight to see a game with him. Enjoy your game.
