Chefchaouen is a fantastic destination for photography with its wonderful views of the Rif Mountains. This afternoon, visit the Kashbah Museum (built in the 15th century and was completed in the 17th century) with its Andalusian architectural style, followed by a visit to the Ethnographic Museum, which houses a collection of pottery, armour, embroidery and musical instruments. The Atlas Mountains in the background add to the beauty of the setting. The 2nd and 3rd century Roman town of Volubilis is noted for its colorful and interesting mosaics depicting daily life, the capitol and triumphal arch. After lunch, we drive an hour to Meknes, another imperial city with over fifty palaces with almost 30kms of walls and 20 gates. We visit the walled city of Sale and enjoy a walking tour of the Medina. You will visit the most impressive gates, Bab Mansour with its vivid green tiles; the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum and Dar Jamai Museum. Early this evening, we continue past fields of wheat, mint, mimosa and cork trees to Fes. Founded in 807, Fes is the most ancient of the Imperial cities and is considered to be the most complete medieval city of the Arab world. It is a unique and remarkable place that stimulates all your senses, with haunting and beautiful sounds, visual richness, and wafting smells - suspended in time between the middle Ages and today. The exploration includes the Fes el Bali (Old Fes) with its palaces, mosques and madrasas (Koran schools). Visit the large Kairaouine mosque, other than being the holiest and 2nd largest mosque in Morocco, it is also one of the oldest universities in the world; the 14th century Medersa Bou Inania noted for its Koranic scripture in stucco, intricately carved wood and colorful tiles; Dar Batha Museum, an excellent collection of traditional Moroccan Arts & Crafts; Nejjarine Museum of Wooden Arts & Crafts and of course not missing the sight and “smell” of the Tanneries. In the late morning we drive 2 hours on 4WD back to Errachidia, en-route visiting Ksar Maadid, the biggest ksar in Erfoud. Ksar is a traditional residential complex. The interior is divided into small cells and a lot of families live in the same building. We also visit the souk in the center of Erfoud. Shop for the best dates ( biggest and the sweetest) in Morocco. Take a 50 minutes charter plane to Marrakech airport and drive 1 hour to Richard Branson property – Kasbah Tamadot. Go for tea in a traditional Berber house in this fabulous and remote village before coming back on the same route. The views are fantastic, the village is magical and it is a real insight into the lives of the local people. This afternoon, indulge in this beautiful retreat. Before checking in at the hotel, we visit a beautiful garden, “Majorelle Garden”, filled with rare plants, bright colors and peace.
