For me the main part of the book is about identity. Holly is a teenage girl who was forced into witness protection. The reader meets her after a move to a new area and follows her as she tries to settle into a new home and new school. I must admit this part of the story is quite slow but it makes you think a lot about settlling into a new life and also those decisions you make about which peer group to get into and what makes By Any Other Name rea I really enjoyed this book quite a lot for a variety of reasons. I must admit this part of the story is quite slow but it makes you think a lot about settlling into a new life and also those decisions you make about which peer group to get into and what makes a real friend. I loved seeing that process and found it completely fascinating. This book also features an autistic character in the form of Holly's little sister. I loved her role in the story but also found the insight into living with a family member with autism really fascinating. It made me think about the way in which one may judge someone else without having the full story about that person. For me the main part of this book was the relationship that began to develop between holly and emo boy. I loved seeing how their perceptions of one another changed as the story went along and I loved seeing the role in played in the main plotline. Eventually the story kicks off once the criminals who By Any Other Name holly into witness protection catch up with her. The story brought so many strands together and was fast paced and exciting. By Any Other Name really enjoyed seeing how things finally resolved and was completely hooked to the point where I couldn't put the book down. A fab read which I enjoyed. May 17, Zoe and the Edge rated it really liked it Shelves: yaromancesqueaky-cleansiblings. Will they stop after the trial? She remakes herself feeling that she really has become a different person. By Any Other Name struggles to be the shy girl at school because she's always been more of a take-charge girl. She gets wrapped up in the wrong crowd but by the halfway mark she's learned her lesson and By Any Other Name more interested in the boy she started out hating. Again, nobody shows any reaction By Any Other Name his lateness, not even the teacher. What is it with him? Is he the village mafia or something? Their relationship is adorable. JOE: The kitchen is full of cake. He used decimate in a text. Oh, Joe! There's not a lot of romance since the pair are so young, but similar to Jarratt's other book, By Any Other Name Deep, it's not teeny-bopper at all. I like how Joe is so cool with everything except when it comes to Holly. He's so embarrassed that he likes her I just had to laugh. Katie Katie is Holly's little By Any Other Name. She is autistic and super smart. I'm not sure how I feel about her portrayal but I did like the way Holly feels about her. My sister's on the light spectrum of autistic and she seems so normal that when she acts out people are so quick to judge. I think part of the enjoyment of this book is it's British-isms. There's just a different feel to it that I really like. Just brotherly dynamics that I By Any Other Name hilarious. Considering how often he used to duck out of it when he had both legs. It hit hard — there was spin on it — and Katie made a face at him as Joe rubbed his head. Mar 12, Anna rated it liked it By Any Other Name young-adult. More of a 3. I really By Any Other Name Jarratt's debut novel Skin Deep, an honest By Any Other Name, but this: meh. Somewhere in the acknowledgments for this Jarratt thanks her agent for suggesting the theme of By Any Other Name novel. I wish the agent hadn't. I wish the agent had let Jarratt ruminate for her own theme. Maybe then what had come By Any Other Name of it would have been more congruent. This is not. The one character I actually fully bought into was the main protag's autistic litt More of a 3. The one character I actually fully bought into was the main protag's autistic little sister. In Skin Deep Jarratt manages to write a fabulously accurate description of a supporting character who is bi-polar, here she manages to write a first-class austistic kid. Actual Kelvans are 'immense beings' with a hundred tentacles. Such beings would have problems with a turbolift and sixties FX would have problems depicting them. So, hearkening back to the aliens of "Catspaw" and "," these Kelvans have set themselves up for major seduction trouble by assuming our treacherous human form. And, strictly speaking, By Any Other Name not invaders, merely an expedition force on its way back to the Andromeda Galaxy, where radiation levels will make life impossible there in about 10, years. Once back home, they'll tell the rest of the Kelvans to go ahead and proceed to our Milky Way galaxy and then conquer the hell out of it. But, By Any Other Name Federation would have no immediate worries; the invasion force probably won't arrive for at least years the round trip. If they ever create a Trek show set in the 29th century or even the 26ththere's at By Any Other Name one story arc ready to be used. So, I'm not sure why Kirk and his officers were so worked up. Of course, their personal situation was a bit grim: the prospect of being stuck on the Enterprise for the rest of their lives as it hurtles towards Andromeda is kind of a downer. Though there are only half-a-dozen of these Kelvans, they easily take over the ship with their paralysis field weapons. They also modify the ship's engines. We're back at the galactic barrier first seen in the 2nd pilot episode, "Where No Man Has Gone Before" - and through it. Then most the crew are turned into small weightless tetrahedron-like blocks. When I first saw this By Any Other Name a kid, a genuine chill ran thru me when one these blocks was crushed to dust, thereby killing a crew member in a rather horrifying manner. This was super-science employed as a war tactic, as an instrument of terror. This was alien invasion thrills and chills, no doubt, and these Kelvans seemed a step up from the usual baddies encountered on the original show Klingons, Romulans, etc. But then, as was customary with many episodes after the first season, a grim tone changes to a playful one in the 2nd half of the episode. Then we get games of By Any Other Name and inebriation, of Kirk, , McCoy and Scotty using their wits rather than their brawn, though in a manner befitting a Marx Brothers comedy instead of a sf adventure. It's still entertaining, sure, but I would have preferred some payback for that first half of terror, and the episode is rather uneven as a result of the precious ploys. The sugary ending is so cloying, so convenient, I usually need a shot of Scotch to get rid of the taste. On the plus side, Kelinda Bouchet is probably the sexiest alien we see on the original show and Kirk's super-stud status was assured with this episode. Scotty has the best scenes - it's green, indeed - and rumors of his alcoholism might have started here. And those images of the Enterprise zooming towards another galaxy stay in the mind for awhile. This imagery was repeated in the 3rd season's "Day of the Dove. Did You Know? Trivia Scotty's quarters are only seen in this episode. Quotes Captain James T.
