  • Bomber Command's Electronic Warfare Policy and Suppression of Enemy Air Defence Posture During the Second World
BOMBER COMMAND’S ELECTRONIC WARFARE POLICY AND SUPPRESSION OF ENEMY AIR DEFENCE POSTURE DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR By THOMAS JEAVONS WITHINGTON A thesis submitted to the University of Birmingham for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY Department of History, History office, Arts Building, University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham, September 2017. ABSTRACT This thesis will examine the Electronic Warfare [EW] policies and subsequent Suppression of Enemy Air Defence [SEAD] postures of the Royal Air Force’s Bomber Command during the Second World War. It examines how EW was applied to the Luftwaffe (German Air Force) Integrated Air Defence System [IADS] so as to reduce Bomber Command aircraft losses, and determines whether EW policies were drafted in a proactive and/or reactive fashion vis-à-vis the Luftwaffe IADS. The thesis applies air power theory regarding the levels and methods of application by which SEAD was brought to bear against the IADS as a result of these EW policies. Ultimately, the thesis will argue that Bomber Command enacted both proactive and reactive EW policies at the Campaign and Localised SEAD levels using a combination of Manoeuvrist, Mass and Stealth/Surprise approaches.

  • POSTAL HISTORY HANDBOOK of the HOLYLAND (Ottoman Palestine – Mandatory Palestine – Israel – Territories – Palestinian Authority – Related Near-East Regions)
POSTAL HISTORY HANDBOOK OF THE HOLYLAND (Ottoman Palestine – Mandatory Palestine – Israel – Territories – Palestinian Authority – Related Near-East Regions) Version 0.001 (29-08-2018) Prepared by Alex Ben-Arieh, FRPSL | [email protected] (no copyrights – distribute freely) --- The document covers key dates accumulated so far, presently un-illustrated. The dates were accumulated as needed during cataloguing work, a smattering of different periods. In time the document will also include a comprehensive records of rates and routes The sources used are both printed publications as well as online sources. Please keep in mind that the content of the referred-to online sources may change over time as a result of edits, and that what once appeared may have since been removed – or additional information has since been added. - Where only a month is known this is the “date” displayed for a certain event; likewise for a year - The devil is in the details: many seemingly unneeded dates are covered because these can give circumstantial context to postal covers. - This is a non-political document: dates are not left out/events not ignored deliberately; any ‘omission’ is simply an item I have not yet had the chance to record here. - In several instances the phrasing of historical events have been copied wholesale from the source in order to just have the event recorded in this chronology – this document was prepared ‘on the fly’ during cataloguing work. - I’m aware that the Zionism-Israel.com timeline is not entirely accurate: I used it to fill in gaps in the chronology and little by little I’m trying to confirm their dates (and events) using other sources.
